The Taboo Cinema Club, which was owned by Miss Christine Grainger was raided in March 1989 per the Evening Mail of April 5th, 1989. Article posted.
Closed permanently on 28 October 2020. The building will be demolished to make way for Curzon Street Station as part of the HS2 project. According to the Taboo Cinema website they are looking for a new location.
Very adult and deliciously seedy. Has dark corners which are well used! Reasonable variation in porn films (video).

Birmingham has been revealed as one of the country’s hotspots for “sex establishments”
Sex shops , sex cinemas, and lap dancing bars fall under what are known as “sex establishments”, which are venues licensed by local councils.
The Mail asked Midlands councils how many sex establishments they currently had on their books and found that Birmingham has one of the highest number.
As of the time our Freedom of Information request was answered by Birmingham City Council there were 16 - one of the biggest in the country.
In Birmingham the venues include the Taboo Cinema Club, Park Street, Adult World, in Coventry Road, Private Shop, in Pinfold Street and the Rocket Club Gentlemans Entertainment, in Broad Street (see video above for full list).
In Wolverhampton there are seven - the equivalent of one for every 36,344 people living in the city, one of the 20 highest ratios nationally.
The seven venues holding a sex establishment licence in Wolverhampton (listed in full below) include two sexual entertainment venues, four sex shops and one venue - The Foxy Lady in Bilston - which holds a licence to be a sex shop, cinema and sexual entertainment venue.
Only 12 venues across England and Wales are licensed as sex cinemas so this means Wolverhampton is unusual in this regard as well.
Across the West Midlands there were another 23 sex establishments on top of the seven in Wolverhampton including 16 in Birmingham.
Across the whole of England and Wales councils said that there were 391 licensed sex establishments in operation.
This included 212 venues registered as sex shops, 176 sexual entertainment venues and 12 sex cinemas as well as six where the type of licence held was not made clear (one establishment can hold multiple licenses).
Westminster is home to 30 sex establishments making it the capital of England and Wales for x-rated businesses. This is the equivalent of one sex establishment for every 8,077 people compared to a national average of one for every 138,328.
Of the 348 councils to whom we sent our request 327 responded with the relevant information with 163 of these saying they do not currently license any sex establishments.
