Business career of Donald TrumpBefore running for office in 2016, Donald Trump, the 45th and 47th president of the United States pursued a career as a businessman, with a focus on renovating skyscrapers, hotels, casinos, and golf courses. His extravagant lifestyle, outspoken manner, and role on the NBC reality show The Apprentice have made him a well-known public figure in American life for nearly half a century. Trump began his career at his father's real estate company, Trump Management, in 1968 which he took over in 1971 and later renamed the Trump Organization in 1973. He expanded its business to Manhattan, where his father's financial and political backing enabled him to do his first deals, demolishing and renovating landmark buildings. Trump entered various businesses that did not require capital funding, including licensing his name to lodging and golf course enterprises around the world. Building on his public persona in the New York tabloid press, he later starred in the reality TV show The Apprentice. Trump partly or completely owned several beauty pageants between 1996 and 2015. He has marketed his name to many building projects and commercial products. Trump's unsuccessful business ventures have included numerous casinos and hotel bankruptcies, the folding of his New Jersey Generals football team, and the now-defunct Trump University. He and his businesses have been involved in more than 4,000 legal actions, including six business bankruptcies. After winning the 2016 presidential election and being inaugurated the first time in January 2017, Trump resigned all management roles within the Trump Organization and moved his business assets into a revocable trust managed by his sons Donald Jr. and Eric. However, Trump retained his financial stake in the work document, which led to concerns about possible conflicts of interest. Trump has increasingly merged public and private ventures in the 2020s.

Tom HomanThomas Douglas Homan (born November 28, 1961) is an American law enforcement officer and political commentator who served as acting director of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from January 30, 2017, to June 29, 2018. In November 2024, then president-elect Donald Trump designated Homan as "border czar", whose official title is White House Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations, during Trump's second presidency. Homan advocates deportation of illegal immigrants and opposes sanctuary city policies. Within the government, he was among the most strident proponents of separating children from their parents as a means of deterring illegal entry into the country. After 2018, he began contributing to Fox News as a commentator.

Deportation in the second presidency of Donald TrumpPresident Donald Trump has continued the process of deporting immigrants in the United States after assuming office for a second term. The administration's policy has been characterized as a mass deportation campaign, affecting millions of immigrants and asylum seekers through widespread detentions, confinements, and expulsions. On January 23, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) began to carry out raids on sanctuary cities, with hundreds of immigrants detained and deported. The Trump administration reversed previous policy and gave ICE permission to raid schools, hospitals and places of worship. The use of deportation flights by the U.S. has created pushback from some foreign governments, particularly Colombia. Fears of ICE raids have impacted agriculture, construction, and the hospitality industry. Pew Research Center reports that the total population of illegal immigrants in the U.S. is estimated at 11 million in 2022, with California continuing, as compared to ten years prior, to have the largest population. The administration has used the Alien Enemies Act to quickly deport immigrants with limited or no due process, to be imprisoned in El Salvador, which was halted by federal judges and the Supreme Court. It has also targeted activists, lawful permanent residents, tourists, and students with visas who expressed criticism of Trump policies or engaged in pro-Palestinian advocacy. It ordered the re-opening of the Guantanamo Bay detention camp to hold potentially tens of thousands of immigrants, but has faced logistical and legal difficulties using it as an immigrant camp. Several American citizens were detained and deported. Administration practices have faced legal issues and stoked controversy with lawyers, judges, and legal scholars. Trump had discussed deportations during his presidential campaign in 2016, during his first presidency, and in his 2024 campaign. At the time of his first campaign, approximately one-third of Americans supported the idea – but by the start of his second term, eight years later, public opinion had undergone a shift, with a majority of Americans believing all illegal immigrants should be deported. By April 2025, slightly over half of Americans felt the level of deportations went "too far". The Trump administration has claimed that around 140,000 people had been deported as of April 2025, though some estimates put the number at roughly half that amount.
$Trump$TRUMP (stylized in all caps) is a meme coin associated with United States president Donald Trump, hosted on the Solana blockchain platform. One billion coins were originally created; 800 million remain owned by two Trump-owned companies, after 200 million were publicly released in an initial coin offering (ICO) on January 17, 2025. Less than a day later, the aggregate market value of all coins was more than $27 billion, valuing Trump's holdings at more than $20 billion. A March 2025 Financial Times analysis found that the crypto project netted at least $350 million through sales of tokens and fees. The venture has faced widespread condemnation from ethics experts for Donald Trump's conflicts of interest related to the project and his presidential duties. During the second Trump administration, Trump has promoted $TRUMP and taken actions that have raised the value of the meme coin, contributing to a substantial increase in his net worth.
Deportation and detention of American citizens in the second Trump administrationDuring the second Trump administration, there has been an increased effort to detain and deport undocumented immigrants, and a number of American citizens have been falsely detained or deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as undocumented immigrants. These actions by the Trump administration against American citizens have received media attention and alarmed those involved in the civil rights of immigrants, who claim that these violations are due to the increased pressure and speed to deport people without proper procedural protections. Notable cases that have garnered media attention include the deportations of several children who are American citizens along with their non-citizen parents, including a child in the midst of treatment for cancer; the detentions of Jose Hermosillo, Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez, Julio Noriega, Jensy Machado, and a military veteran; and the detention and questioning of indigenous individuals in the Southwest.
