Holeby Municipality

Holeby was a municipality (Danish, kommune) on the island of Lolland in Storstrøm County in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 116 km2, and had a total population of 3,982 (2005). Its last mayor was Bjarne Larsen. The main town and the seat of its municipal council was the town of Holeby. Neighboring municipalities were Nysted to the east, Maribo and Sakskøbing to the north, and Rødby to the west. To the south was the Baltic Sea and the Fehmarn Belt. On 1 January 2007 Holeby municipality ceased to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It merged with the municipalities of Højreby, Maribo, Nakskov, Ravnsborg, Rudbjerg and Rødby to form the new Lolland municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 892 km2 and a total population of 49,469 (2005). The new municipality belongs to the new Region Sjælland ("Zealand Region").

Rødbyhavn (Danish pronunciation: [ʁœðpyˈhɑwˀn]) is a small town and harbour on the south coast of Lolland, Denmark, with a population of 1,516 (1 January 2024). Since 2007 it has been a part of Lolland Municipality. Rødbyhavn ("Rødby Harbour") is located approximately five kilometres (3.1 mi) southwest of the town of Rødby. It is a harbour on the northern shore of the Fehmarn Belt. A ferry service connects Rødbyhavn with Puttgarden on the island of Fehmarn. Thus one can drive or take the train from Copenhagen over the Fehmarn Belt, and on to Lübeck and Hamburg by European route E47, which in Germany is known as autobahn A1 or Vogelfluglinie. The original Lalandia holiday resort is located just west of Rødbyhavn on the shore of Fehmarn Belt.

Lolland (Danish: [ˈlʌˌlænˀ] ; formerly spelled Laaland, literally "low land") is the fourth largest island of Denmark, with an area of 1,243 km2 (480 sq mi). Located in the Kattegat, Belts and Sund area, it is part of Region Sjælland (Region Zealand). As of 1 January 2022, it has 57,618 inhabitants. Lolland is closely connected to the island of Falster to its east. The locality of Sundby forms a cross-island urban area with Nykøbing Falster, the largest conurbation partially on Lolland. The most populated settlement on Lolland proper is Nakskov.

Toreby is a village in Guldborgsund Municipality on the Danish island of Lolland. It is located 6 km (3.7 mi) west of Nykøbing Falster and 11 km (6.8 mi) east of Sakskøbing. It had a population of 634 as of 1 January 2024. The main road through the town is known as Torebyvej.

Toreby Church

Toreby Church is the parish church of Toreby on the Danish island of Lolland. It is an unusually large red-brick Romanesque building, the nave and chancel having been extended in the Gothic period with a sacristy and lateral aisle. The tower is late Romanesque. There are frescos from c. 1400 in the sacristy. The carved pulpit (1645) is the work of Jørgen Ringnis.
