The film stars Clark Gable, Jeanette MacDonald and Spencer Tracy. MacDonald's singing helped make this film a major hit, coming on the heels of her other 1936 blockbuster, Rose Marie.
Tivoli GardensTivoli Gardens, also known simply as Tivoli (Danish pronunciation: [ˈtsʰiwoli]), is an amusement park and pleasure garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. The park opened on 15 August 1843 and is the third-oldest operating amusement park in the world, after Dyrehavsbakken in nearby Klampenborg, also in Denmark, and Wurstelprater in Vienna, Austria. With 4.25 million visitors in 2024, Tivoli is the most visited amusement park in Scandinavia and second-most popular seasonal amusement park in the world after Europa-Park. Tivoli is also the fifth-most visited amusement park in Europe, behind Disneyland Park, Efteling, Europa-Park and Walt Disney Studios Park. It is located in downtown Copenhagen, next to the Central rail station.
Tivoli City ParkTivoli City Park (Slovene: Mestni park Tivoli) or simply Tivoli Park (Park Tivoli) is the largest park in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It is located on the western outskirts of the Center District, stretching to the Šiška District to the north, the Vič District to the south, and the Rožnik District to the west. Several notable buildings and art works stand in the park. Since 1984, the park has been protected as part of Tivoli–Rožnik Hill–Šiška Hill Nature Park. It is home to a variety of bird species.
New Tivoli Theatre, SydneyThe New Tivoli Theatre, Sydney, previously known as the Adelphi Theatre and the Grand Opera House, was a theatre and music hall at 329, Castlereagh Street, Sydney, Australia, which was long at the heart of the Tivoli circuit. It operated between 1911 and 1966 and from 1932 was often called the Tivoli Theatre.
Tivoli Theatre, MelbourneThe Tivoli Theatre was an important venue in Melbourne's East End Theatre District, located at 249 Bourke Street near Swanston Street. The first theatre on the site opened in 1866, rebuilt in 1872 as the Prince of Wales Opera House, rebuilt again in 1901 as the New Opera House, and renamed the Tivoli in 1914 when it joined the Tivoli circuit. The theatre closed in 1966.
Samuel W. GumpertzSamuel W. Gumpertz (1868 – June 22, 1952) was an American showman who played a part in the building of Coney Island's Dreamland. Gumpertz was the talent manager of Harry Houdini, and he became the right-hand man to John T. Ringling, last of the famed Ringling Brothers, and after Ringling retired in 1932, he took over the circus in the capacity of vice-president and general manager. He was responsible for merging Ringling Brothers with Barnum and Bailey, Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus and the Al G. Barnes Circus
Tivoli OperaTivoli Opera (established 1882, closed 1886) was Norway's first permanent opera stage, located in the converted banquet hall of Tivoli in Oslo. It was led by opera singer Olefine Moe (artistic director), assisted by Swedish Matilda Lundström (administrative director). The opera was nicknamed Mattis & Moe and was thus, unusually for the time, led by two women. The artistic director was first the Italian Paolo Sperati, later the young Hjalmar Meissner. Several of the nearly twenty singers came from the Royal Dramatic Theatre, where Moe had spent several successful years, and there was a small orchestra and a small ensemble for ballet. They were the first permanent opera stage in the country to stage almost twenty world premieres. This was in 1883 with Fredrich von Flotow's Martha, The Barber of Seville, Rigoletto, The Beggar Student and The Marriage of Figaro. In 1884 they continued with Carmen, La traviata and others. Olefine Moe had most of the leading roles. There was also a tour to Bergen and Oslo (1885). The last was Lohengrin (1886).
