William KempeWilliam Kempe (c. 1560 – c. 1603), commonly referred to as Will Kemp, was an English actor and dancer who specialised in comic roles. He was best known as one of the original stage actors in early dramas by William Shakespeare, and roles associated with his name may have included the comic creation Falstaff. His contemporaries considered him to be a successor to the great clown of the previous generation, Richard Tarlton. Kempe's success and influence was such that in December 1598 he was one of a core of five actor-shareholders in the Lord Chamberlain's Men, alongside Shakespeare and Richard Burbage. He left the company shortly afterwards, and despite his fame as a performer and his intention to continue his career, he appears to have died unregarded and in poverty circa 1603.

Taskmaster (TV series)Taskmaster is a British comedy panel game show created by comedian and musician Alex Horne. It is presented by Horne (who acts as an umpire / task facilitator) and Greg Davies (in the titular role of “Taskmaster”). In each series of the programme, a group of five celebrities – mainly comedians – attempt to complete a series of challenges in the Taskmaster House or at an offsite location. The Taskmaster then reviews the performance of the contestants and awards points based on performance, interpretation or other arbitrary, comedic factors. A winner is determined in each episode and for the series overall. The concept for the programme was first created by Horne for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010; he later secured a deal with Dave to adapt it for television with the first episode premiering in 2015. After the ninth series in 2019, the programme was acquired by Channel 4. The programme has completed eighteen series as well as three Champion of Champions specials and five New Year Treat one-offs by January 2025, and is set to continue for at least three more series until 2026. Taskmaster’s success on British television led to international versions in Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Canada (Quebec), Sweden, Spain and the United States. A British spin-off series, Junior Taskmaster, premiered on Channel 4 on 8 November 2024, with Rose Matafeo as Taskmaster and Mike Wozniak as the task setter. Additionally, a tie-in board game, two books, and a VR game have been released, as well as a live experience. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Horne hosted #HomeTasking, a series of tasks for people to film in their own homes; for each task, a montage of attempts was posted on YouTube that featured Davies awarding points to his favourite entries.

Wonka (film)Wonka is a 2023 musical fantasy film directed by Paul King, who co-wrote the screenplay with Simon Farnaby. It is a prequel to the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, which is in turn based on the 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. The film stars Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka and also features Calah Lane, Keegan-Michael Key, Paterson Joseph, Matt Lucas, Mathew Baynton, Sally Hawkins, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Grant. The film tells an original story and was developed by King to exist as a "companion piece" to the film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory by reprising some of the music, thematic elements, and the visual design of the Oompa Loompas. In May 2021, Chalamet was confirmed to portray Wonka, and the supporting cast was announced in September of that year. Filming began in the United Kingdom in September, at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in Watford, as well as Oxford, Lyme Regis, Bath, St Albans, and at the Rivoli Ballroom in Crofton Park, London. The film's original songs were written by Neil Hannon and its original score was composed by Joby Talbot. Wonka premiered in London at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre on November 28, 2023 and was released by Warner Bros. Pictures in the United Kingdom on December 8, and in the United States on December 15. It received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Chalamet's performance and film's presentation, and was a box-office success, grossing over $634 million worldwide against a $125 million budget, to become the eighth-highest-grossing film of 2023. It received a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film and Chalamet was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. A sequel is in development.
