TI Convention. Vol. 2

Seek of mentoring, guidance or help..

Toastmaster Convention prepared program with several professional speakers to learn new leadership, negotiating, speaking skills and brought some TM stuffs (manuals, gifts, pins, charts, lecterns and etc). 

I decided to attend less and look for guidance, spending my day reaching (badgering) people about our opportunities to open Area club and joining districts in my region. And guess what? Nobody cares, except of volunteers, but, unfortunately, they don’t know answers for my question. So, I spoke to strangers, with not much success, I left. On the way back meet Simon from UK, also first comer. Encountering him was one of the pleasurable moments of that day...

Yet, everything has changed on the 3rd day. There was special session for regions and I decided to join region 13 (West China) or 14 (East China and Japan). Yet knowing that I am not bounded to any district I went to almost every region rooms to find someone from Boston, before the session. It helped me to make the decision to join regions gathering with Boston. Regions meeting was not helpful in terms of information I needed, because mostly they heard each other reports, but I took the contact of Boston district governor. 

Feeling myself disappointed and frustrated from the fact that I didn’t find the answers to my question I decided to relax in shopping. Did you know that sometimes you only need one word from a complete stranger to find answers you are seeking for?

That was Johnathan for me, he just mentioned that the shop become less crowded at the end and that is how our conversation started. I annoyed him with the questions about how to make our own district or join any. He main suggestion was to get 60 clubs together, and that is the best way. Guys, we need Toastmasters conference! Toastmasters of Central Asia, we have some work to do!

P.S. to our president Yerlan Meirbek, payment increasing was announced through the magazines (with the reasoning by Johnathan’s words, and magazines can be found online) and it was based on voting.
