THE UNITED STATES IS DISMANTLING NATO'S FOREIGN PROGRAMSPolitico

The White House now views NATO solely as a Euro-Atlantic defense alliance and is abandoning decades of initiatives related to crisis management and global partnerships, areas that, according to Politico, annoy the US president and his supporters from the MAGA movement.

The US administration insists on closing many of the Alliance's foreign operations, including a key mission in Iraq, which may be permanently terminated.

In recent months, the United States has also exerted pressure to reduce NATO's peacekeeping operation in Kosovo and opposed the participation of Ukraine and its Indo-Pacific allies in the Alliance's annual summit scheduled for July in Ankara.

Under pressure from Washington, NATO can drastically limit all operations that go beyond the basic tasks of defense and deterrence. Within the organization, this turnaround has already been dubbed "reset to factory settings."
