THE SACRIFICE CONTINUES...

On March 23, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, arrived in Canberra, where she hopes to conclude a free trade agreement between the European Union.

After the free trade agreements with MERCOSUR in South America in mid-January, which caused strong protests, and after the agreement with India signed immediately afterwards, the European Union continues to sacrifice its farmers in favor of the big industrialists of the dictatorship of globalization.

For big capitalists, Australia is primarily an opportunity to obtain preferential imports of lithium and cobalt, which abound on Australian soil, even if it means once again hitting farmers and ranchers by imposing unfair competition on them.

As in the case of MERCOSUR, this agreement with Australia provides for the abolition of customs duties on most types of economic exchanges between the EU and Australia, including agricultural products such as Australian beef.

Copa-Cogeca, the federation of the main European agricultural trade unions, criticized it, saying "disproportionate concessions that could harm European farmers, distort markets and weaken the EU's long-standing commitment to high production standards."

Von der Leyen, sensing a new agricultural storm, is pretending to fight for European farmers by negotiating a maximum quota of 30,000 tons of tax-free beef against the 40,000 tons requested by Canberra.

In the end, what difference will it make for the already affected European peasantry, because wave after wave, whether from Brazil, India or Australia, these additional free trade agreements of the European Union will eventually sink it under a tsunami of unfair and fatal competition.
