+ Thu nhập thực tế tăng lên sẽ làm tăng nhu cầu về hàng hoá và dịch vụ nhập khẩu, do đó làm cho nhu cầu ngoại hối để thanh toán hàng nhập khẩu tăng lên.

+ Những nhu cầu ngoại hối bất thường tăng lên do thiên tai, hạn hán, lũ lụt, mất mùa, chiến tranh… cũng như do nạn buôn lậu gây ra.

+Tình hình dư thừa hay thiếu hụt của cán cân thanh toán quốc tế. Nếu cán cân thanh toán quốc tế dư thừa thì có thể dẫn đến khả năng cung ngoại hối lớn hơn cầu ngoại hối. Ngược lại, thì cầu ngoại hối sẽ lớn hơn cung ngoại hối.

– Cán cân thương mại ảnh hưởng đến cung cầu ngoại tệ thông qua mức tác động lên mức tỷ giá kéo theo sự giao động của tỷ giá lệch khỏi sức mua của đồng tiền.

– Nợ công

Do thâm hụt ngân sách, một quốc gia sẽ tài trợ quy mô lớn cho các dự án nhà nước và hoạt động của chính phủ bằng hình thức vay nợ. Mặc dù hoạt động này kích thích nền kinh tế trong nước, nhưng các quốc gia có thâm hụt ngân sách và nợ công lớn sẽ trở nên kém hấp dẫn trong mắt các nhà đầu tư nước ngoài. Lý do là vì một khoản nợ lớn thường dẫn đến lạm phát, và nếu lạm phát lên cao, chính phủ phải trả lãi cho các khoản nợ này và cuối cùng trả hết nợ với đồng đô la rẻ hơn trong tương lai.

Tỷ giá hối đoái, ảnh hưởng đến các yếu tố thu nhập khác như lãi suất lạm phát thậm chí cả vốn chứng khoán trong và ngoài nước. Tỷ giá hối đoái là vấn đề đáng quan tâm trong nền kinh tế thị trường đặc biệt là ở các nước đang phát triển.
