Swyp markets itself as the ‘TikTok of Porn,’ but it’s missing what people who want a TikTok for porn are actually looking for
There is a massive market for TikTok-related porn , as evidenced by the popularity of subreddits like r/TikTokNSFW and the presence of TikTok stars on leak sites like ThotHub . It makes sense, then, that large porn sites would attempt to find a place within the TikTok porn market . Swyp , a mobile site from YouPorn, is one such attempt. But does it actually provide the content that TikTok fans are looking for?
“The mobile-only web app has a similar look and feel to TikTok in terms of functionality,” a press release for Swyp says , “presenting users with a wide array of full-screen video previews to pique their interest simply by swiping down on their mobile screen.” When visiting Swyp from your phone’s browser, the program shows brief clips from longer porn videos. If you’re interested in watching the full video, you simply press on the clip. If the thumbnail doesn’t look enticing, you keep scrolling as you might if you were using the TikTok app. For those who are logged in to Swyp, the program also utilizes an algorithm to note which types of videos you enjoy watching in order to show more of them to you in the future, similar to TikTok’s own algorithm.
As the press release says, Swyp is intended to mirror TikTok only in terms of function. It is indeed the “TikTok of porn,” if you define TikTok primarily by the experience of infinite scrolling and swiping. But as r/TikTokNSFW and the number of popular TikTokers on OnlyFans indicates, the fondness for TikTok isn’t simply the product of the physical experience of using the app. Instead, it’s the creators and the nature of the content .
As it stands, Swyp seems to miss the point of making a porn site “like TikTok,” though there is some value to being presented with videos in this format. As Swyp fills the screen with one video at a time, it might cut back on the time one spends searching through a site for the ideal video. Or, alternatively, it causes someone to scroll even longer, stuck on the hope that the perfect video is always just a few swipes away.

YouPorn is launching what it calls a “TikTok-inspired” web app that uses machine learning (ML) to learn and adapt to each user’s viewing preferences. TikTok is a video-focused social network operated by China’s ByteDance and became one of the top 10 most downloaded apps of the past decade.
Los Angeles-headquartered YouPorn — owned by MindGeek, which operates myriad related sites, including Pornhub — is one of the most popular pornography websites in the world and among the most visited websites overall, with a current Alexa ranking of 287 . With YouPorn Swyp , the adult entertainment giant is introducing a new mobile-focused format for discovering content that has been personalized based on the user’s scrolling and swiping activity.
Users swipe up and down to view previews, and then swipe left to watch the full video. Moreover, all videos — both in preview and full-view mode — play automatically, negating the need to click on play buttons. This is very much in line with how people typically consume videos online these days — it’s all about removing friction and increasing engagement.
“Swyp was designed to be an easier, more visually enticing way to watch porn and discover new content,” said YouPorn VP Charlie Hughes.

Last February, YouPorn launched progressive web apps , circumventing strict app store rules to make it easier for users to enjoy a native app-like experience on mobile. Swyp also benefits from this, meaning users can easily create a home screen icon on their iOS or Android device and experience faster loading times compared to a standard mobile website.
Both YouPorn and Pornhub are no strangers to leveraging AI and ML techniques. Back in 2018, YouPorn launched personalized weekly video playlists powered by ML, while Pornhub uses computer vision to identify porn stars and automate the content tagging process.
“At YouPorn, we are always trying to help our users discover their ideal adult entertainment experience,” Hughes said. “That is why we leverage more categories and are the first to deliver machine learning recommendations across all areas of the site. Now with the addition of YouPorn Swyp, it is easier than ever for users to explore content based on their specific interests, thus always improving the recommendations within Swyp itself and everywhere on our site.”

It is porn’s destiny to porn. Porn porned YouTube; porn porned Spotify ; finally, after a surprisingly long delay when you think about it, porn has porned TikTok. Say hello to YouPorn’s new TikTok-fashioned app SWYP.

SWYP is billed as easier on the eyes (fewer ads) and the arms (less clicking) than YouPorn’s previous app attempt , which is essentially a pared-down version of its home page. In a press release, YouPorn notes that the latest app removes the extra step of clicking play “time after time”: a valid concern for visitors who spend on average seven minutes on the site.
The company describes SWYP–which users save to their home screens directly from the webpage–as similar to the “look and feel” of TikTok, with a “clean interface free of visual distractions.” That’s about half true; it is still a thing that porn built, which is to say the experience includes choppy sailing through clips that are almost always out of alignment. On the plus side, viewers are spared the dildos that plague the sidebars. YouPorn will use machine learning to show you similar content if you swipe left to see the whole video, so: swipe with care.
But the press release omits one of TikTok’s defining characteristics, which is that it doesn’t pay its content creators. Similarly, YouPorn’s monopolistic owner MindGeek is notorious for coasting on pirated videos while snatching up one tube after another, leaving adult entertainers few alternative revenue streams.
Like TikTok, the app version serves ads independently of user-generated videos and does away with YouPorn’s in-browser banner ads that allow content creators to monetise off their work. (You can click “subscribe” on a video in the app, but custom watermarks are the only clues to the author.) Nor does it allow captions for easier sponcon disclosure. YouPorn was unavailable for comment as to how or whether content creators might get paid, but all signs point to prominent lube labels.
