I have grown to enjoy visiting Sweet Lola's as a treat for myself for the past few years. As other reviewers have indicated, the cupcakes taste dry and they seem too heavy. It would be nice if the shop upgraded to real plates and bowls for serving rather then then disposables. Even old vintage dishes from a thrift shop would add a bit of personality to and lessen the trash. It's time that we upgrade our food experiences in Wausau.
Worst cupcakes I EVER had. Extremely dry. Putting way too much icing on doesn't cover up that fact either. High price for a poor product.
Sweet Lola's is my happy place! Every time I walk in the door I know I'm going to leave with at least 2 sweets in the pretty pink box. The staff is always friendly and helpful with suggestions when I ask about the new flavors. The selection of cupcakes, bars and cookies is extensive and because the case they're in faces the front door, I rarely look at the other wonderful goodies around the corner (layer cakes, cheesecakes) but when I do it's always worth it. Sweet Lola's makes wonderful pie and their cakes are a marvel of creativity. The decorators are incredibly talented and seem to be able to make almost anything from fondant. If you're in the Wausau area and need to satisfy your sweet tooth, this is the place to be.
This place might have been my favorite stop of our 3 day trip. They even serve vegan and gluten free. My daughter with severe food allergies was thrilled to be able to get a cupcake. Staff is super friendly and very patient while you debate which treats to buy. We bought about 8 different flavors and the vegan cupcakes. All were very tasty.
Stumbled on Sweet Lola's during a walk in downtown Wausau. It is a small shop with big personality. The staff was very welcoming and described the sweet treats like gourmet cupcakes, cookies, and cakes. All were beautifully decorated with decent prices of $2.95 a cupcake. We purchased a six pack to share including pumpkin chai, turtle, Kahlua, carrot cake, and apple pie. Excellent small business!
