Sweet Lolita, also known as Ama Lolita, is a substyle that puts a lot of focus on a youthful, sweet and girly doll-like look. The child-like aspects can easily be found back in the fashion style. This is done by the use of pastel colours, cute prints, lace and ribbons. 

Both the dresses and skirts tend to be in a bell-shape style, instead of an A-line. 
Typically a bell-shaped petticoat is worn underneath, to create that really full and fluffy cupcake effect. The length in general also tends to be shorter compared to the Classic or Gothic substyles. It should however still have a modest length, and should in theory not be shorter than 5 centimetres above the knee. 
The style of Sweet Lolita has gone through quite some changes over the years. The clothing pieces used to consist more out of solid pastel colours. The details were added in the form of lace and embroidery. Rectangular headdresses and right sausage curls also used to be more popular than they are now. The same can be said about Rocking Horse shoes.  
But what are the current styles for Sweet Lolita? 
Though the clothing can still consist of solid pastel colours, (popular choices are baby pink, blue, white, cream, pale yellow, mint green and lavender) prints are often used to add more detail. 
These need to have an innocent appearance, such as sweets, fruits, flowers, cute animals, stars, bows and toys. The design needs to give off the feeling of cute little Victorian girls. 
Other options are fantasy themed prints such as unicorns, castles and fairytale motifs. 
Some Lolita have been mixing in darker tones such as jewel colours, navy blue and black and have been calling it Bittersweet. It’s however not its own style. 
Hair colours that stand out such as pink and lavender have been really popular for Sweet Lolita, though recently natural colours are more frequently used. Hairstyles are often long and full, so Lolita tend to wear wigs in order to achieve this effect. 
Curled hair is a popular choice, which then can be worn either down or in pigtails. Other hairstyles include bobs, buns, ogando’s or braids. It’s rarely worn into ponytails. 
The most popular hair accessory is the Alice bow, though smaller ones on barrettes and elastic bands may also be used for a less overwhelming effect. 
Necklaces, oversized plastic rings or bangles are often worn in either a matching pastel colour or have a cute motif. 
For an OTP look, lots of these can be used and almost piled up on top of each other. 
Stockings, skin tights or knee-high socks are in light colours and can have either lace detailing or sweet prints.
Tea party shoes are the most popular choice for footwear. These can either with or without heels. Preferably the design is something chunky to look like it belongs to a doll and has a round nose. They can be in glitter, matte, glossy, bright or pastel coloured. For extra cute effect shoes with bows are worn. 
Sweet Lolita brands tend to be on the expensive side. Examples of these are: 
Angelic Pretty, Baby The Stars Shine Bright and Metamorphose Temps de Fille. 
There are however many companies that sell Sweet Lolita that don’t really fall under an official brand. Examples of these are Body Line, Anna House, Dream of Lolita and Infanta. 
There are mixed opinions about Body Line. It’s said that the less recent pieces tend to be of less good quality compared to their newer lines. Also to be more careful of the clothing pieces that have too much detailing, as they can have more of a costumey look. 
I, myself own 1 skirt from Body Line and am quite pleased with the quality.
