In the fifties, the sweater became a very popular form of dress for women. Especially women with a figure. Lana Turner was called 'the sweater girl', showing her body off through the tight sweaters she wore.
Of course the purpose of the sweater is to give that extra layer of warmth to fight off those cool days and nights of spring, winter, and fall. Probably just as important is the fashion factor. But there are many other uses for sweaters that are not quite as practical as the two listed above, but very effective in giving discomfort, and mental torment to a disobedient subject.
Yarn itself has many uses for tying and encasing different parts of one's body either for bondage purposes or for tormenting. And yarn also works very effectively when knit into a very effective bondage device, the sweater.
It is particularly effective in using women's sweaters when dealing with males. This heightens the mind torture and humiliation that is very desirable when punishment is necessary. Of course, this is true of any form of feminine clothing, but the slave who is not familiar with sweater torture would wonder why his mistress is forcing him to shop for women's sweaters only. Accompanied or not, the slave could be ordered to purchase any number or types of sweaters.
A devious mistress might make a list of several thrift shops in the area, and force her slave to purchase a number of items. But for practical purposes, let's stick to sweaters. Say that the slave is given a list of four thrift shops in the area and ordered to purchase a pink 'little girl' sweater, and a pink woman's sweater in each store. Of course a more intense situation could be made if he had to tell the clerk the sweaters were for him. Requiring the slave to have the clerk sign the receipt would allow the mistress to later call the store to verify that the slave actually did as he was told, if he is ordered to shop alone. This would assure that the slave's humiliation at each check out counter was intense.
The source for the slave's sissy sweaters would probably depend on what purpose the sweaters were going to serve, and the resources of the slave. Sweaters cost between $2.00 and $5.00 at thrift stores. A large immediate wardrobe of sweaters could be purchased for well under $100.00. But for some serious fetishists, nothing other than sweaters purchased in fine clothing stores will do.
Another source for sweaters is a local knitting shop. Imagine the look of anguish on the slave's face as he must request that a feminine sweater be knit for him. Since the knitter will make money on the project, she would probably be happy to assist in further humiliation insisting on fittings, etc.
Anything from dainty pink angora panties to inescapable heavy full body woolen suits can be made by a knitter. I know of a couple who actually had several full body sweater suits made. They completely cover the body with the exception of a hole for the mouth. The suits each have a zipper that zips from the crotch up the back. It is impossible to take the suit off without assistance!
My favorite form of sweater humiliation is forced sweater modeling. Optional, of course is the use of a bra. If the subject is male, it is highly recommended to use the largest bra possible. A female slave's humiliation can also be heightened by using an oversized bra and filling it. This is most effective if the subject has small breasts.
Sweater modeling is most effective if done in front of several people who enjoy making fun of a person. The subject must bounce around the room, showing each and every sweater available at the time. A devious host may insist on the layered look, not allowing the slave to disrobe the last sweater before putting the next on. Depending on how many sweaters are involved, this could become a very warm moment in the slave's submissive life.
This in fact could lead to sweater bondage. There are several forms of sweater bondage. The first is to simply force the subject into a sweater or sweaters, then physically bind them. Another form is to actually use sweaters to bind the subject.
My favorite form of sweater bondage is when a slave is forced to layer sweater after sweater over their body. At some point it would become impossible for their arms to function properly. After several sweaters it becomes increasingly difficult to raise the arms. Then the Mistress takes over and forces more sweaters onto the victim until it is impossible to force any more on.
At this point, several things could happen. First, the subject could be forced to stand on exhibit, very much over dressed on top, with nothing on the bottom, totally helpless. This would make for a delightfully anguishing and humiliating experience for the slave. Also, the victim would be very vulnerable to activities such as leg whippings, spankings, genital torment, and other physical tortures that could be given to their lower body. This would be most effective if the subject's ankles were secured in some way.
Second, a nice pair of woolen knee socks could be forced on the victim before additional sweaters could be forced up the victim's legs, serving as sweater pants, once again until it was impossible to place another garment on their body. Only the most deviant Mistress would go further by attaching more and more sweaters around the victim's body with rope, until the victim resembles a fat furry ball of wool and fluff.
This is pure sweater bondage. It would be very effective if the first layer that touched the victim's skin were a very scratchy woolen or mohair sweater.
Imagine the feeling of total helplessness the victim would feel. Imagine the way the sweaters would itch relentlessly against their skin. Imagine the overwhelming heat the victim would feel.
Care must be taken though, as after an extended time the heat could get the better of the victim, so periodically a cold drink, preferably from a nippled' baby bottle would have to be administered. Although, unlikely, it would be wise to watch for signs of heat stroke.
A particularly thick and tight 100% wool sweater can be used very effectively in the following way:
The subject slides the sweater onto their body. It is very itchy, as wool has that tendency. It is very tight and uncomfortable against the skin. A matching tight skirt or woolen pants would be very desirable.
The victim is sprayed with water, thoroughly soaking the garment until it is saturated. Then a hair dryer is used to dry the sweater. (This would be much more effective if there were assistants if several hair dryers were used.) Of course it is common knowledge that if 100% wool is not properly dried, it can shrink to half it's original size. Of course, the victim's body would prevent that from happening, however once the sweater is dry, it will become unbelievably tight upon the victim.
Now, let's put this all together with a scenario. Let's imagine Gerald has been a terribly bad little boy. His mistress is furious with him. Gerald has never heard of sweater torture before, but his mistress has taken up an interest.
Gerald is fairly well off, so Mistress makes sure he has credit cards with him and they go shopping at several clothing stores including two thrift shops.
When finished, Gerald has been forced to purchase the following: One Double D cup bra, 27 women's sweaters, including mohairs, many woolens, several turtle necks, and mostly very thick, warm sweaters. Also purchased were three long, heavy woolen skirts, three pair of woolen mittens, two which are elbow length, four pair of woolen knee socks, one pair of heavy woolen pants, four knit scarves, and three woolen ski masks. After several trips from the car, Gerald finally finishes the task of carrying the items to Mistresses bedroom, where he is forced to lay all the garments out on her bed.
Shortly thereafter, several of the Mistresses girlfriends arrive. Each woman knows exactly what is to happen. Each is wearing a heavy sweater. Gerald stands in the middle of the room wondering what in the world is about to happen to him.
First Gerald is forced to pull a pair of elbow length mittens up his arms. The women laugh and make fun of him, with much anticipation of things to come. The first sweater handed to Gerald is a pink woolen little girl's sweater. Gerald has to force the turtleneck over his body, and finally when he is finished, a pair of woolen socks are handed to him, followed by the heavy woolen pants. The garments are very itchy on Gerald's skin.
Gerald feels ridiculous, not realizing what is happening. His whining succumbs to puzzlement as two of the women start spraying him down with water, soaking his woolen covered body. Within minutes four of the women are using hair dryers on different parts of his body. Gerald suddenly starts to feel the results of their efforts as the woolen material starts to shrink around his body.
Finally when finished, Gerald is encased in a skin tight cocoon of wool that has totally engulfed his body.
Then as the women laugh, the huge white bra is forced on his body and stuffed with two of the sweaters.
Gerald is then forced to strut around the room for the women as they make fun of him, call him sissy names, pinch and slap him.
Another layer of woolen clothing is forced on Gerald. This time including a tight ankle length woolen skirt, a heavy woolen turtleneck sweater, another pair of woolen mittens and socks, and a pink woolen ski mask.
Once again the women start spraying him down until soaked, then the dreaded hair dryers start to shrink this layer into a second skin tight layer of wool.
Now Gerald's torment is multiplied as it becomes increasingly difficult for him to breath, as the sweaters shrink against his body, pulling the sweater filled bra in towards his chest. The heat he feels from the two layers of heavy wool starts to increase.
Once again, Gerald is forced to prance around the room. This has become ten times more difficult as the skirt has become so tight that Gerald can only hobble around the room. He feels so confined and helpless as the women let him know how ridiculous he looks.
After two more layers of pure wool garments are shrunk onto his body, it takes a hardy effort for Gerald to move. His legs, and his arms are becoming increasingly stiff. To make matters worse, Gerald is starting to perspire, causing the itchiness of his skin to increase in intensity.
After only four layers of skin tight woolen garments, the women have brought Gerald to the brink of agony as he sobs and begs for his release.
The women are amused as a heavy mohair sweater is placed over his head, and down his body, cascading another layer of warmth over his tormented body.
When the women are finished, all of the garments had been layered upon his body, except for three new mohairs that the mistress is going to keep for herself.
No matter how intense Gerald's cries became, the women only laugh and taunt him. They will occasionally give him a sip of cold water.
After binding Gerald further, they leave him there, bound and gagged, laying on the floor, unable to move an inch. He wonders when they will ever return as he lays there completely engulfed in total and complete sweater bondage.
To take this one step further would be cruel indeed. Let's say Charlie who has actually had a sweater fetish all of his life finally meets his match.
His new friend agrees to meet Charlie with two of her friends for drinks and sweaters.

Finally Charlie resembles a very fat eskimo. He is more or less helpless at this point, completely covered in layers and layers of sweaters, leggings, skirts, gloves, mittens, mufflers, knee socks, hoods, and other fluffy things that make his movements very restricted.
They manover him and finally lay him in the bathtub. Then the cold water is turned on. In minutes the tub is almost full of water, and they turn it off and wait until the sweaters suck all of the water into them. Then they turn the water on again, and continue this cycle until the water stops sucking into the sweaters. At this point they drain the tub of water.
Then to make certain he is warm enough, they pile several more of his sweaters over him and stuff the bathtub.
After laughing cruely at him, the three cruel women bid their goodbyes to the totally helpless man. But they don't leave. They only make it sound that way as they watch with amusement as the poor man tries in vain to make any sort of movement at all. The sweaters were heavy enough before the water, and now the weight of the drentched sweaters makes it impossible for him to move.
He yells and screams in panic, only to be released by the women when they have finished enjoying his torment. Yet another form of sweater torture that is more prone to scare the slave, but would be extremely enjoyable for the Mistress and her friends at a party.
Of course this would work very effectively with only Mistress herself present, but since it would be very humiliating for the poor slave, it would be much more affective with an audience. The sense of surprise and of anticipation would abound in the slave.
First the slave is stripped completely naked. After he has been effectively tormented and harassed by the women possibly force him to perform for them, or maybe write humiliating works over his body, he is forced to sit in the corner.
He is given two or more skeins of yarn (preferably very furry mohair) and a very sharp pair of scissors. A feminine color such as pink or lavender is preferred.
Then he is told to cut the yarn into little bitty bits, and is supervised closely that the bits are in fact small. Of course he is verbally harassed and made fun of by as many of the women as possible. Continual verbal abuse is effective in putting him in his place.
Once finished, there should be quite a pile of woolen fluff of which he has absolutely no idea what is about to happen to him.
This entire event is much more effective if both video and still cameras are used extensively.
Next Mistress dawns a pair of rubber gloves to protect her. After forcing the slave to stand, she smiles at him and shows him a container of glue (skin safe, but he is not to know this), and a paint brush. Mistress then proceeds to ‘paint the slave's upper body starting with the neck, arms, chest, stomach, back, sides, buttocks, and privates. Once she is satisfied that he is completely covered she forces him to roll around in the pile of mohair yarn. She then does his legs and forces him to roll again. And then to his horror she paints his entire head including his hair and ears. She does avoid putting any on the eye lids, and not too much on the forehead to avoid the glue running into his eyes.
She then covers him entirely in the scratchy mohair yarn, forcing him to resemble a curley sheep dog.
If the glue is slow drying hair dryers are used to speed the process.
Once completely covered, the slave is at his Mistress's mercy. She could keep him that way indefinitely, place him in bondage, cover him further in sweaters, or walk him around the block like her dog.
His identity has been stolen completely as well as his pride and dignity. What more could a Mistress ask for?
