Farah Nasser, a host on Canada’s Global News, swallowed a bug on a live broadcast and somehow managed to continue reading the news.
“Sharing because we all need a laugh these days,” she later tweeted , alongside a clip of the moment. “I swallowed a fly on air today.”
“I could feel it fluttering in the back of my throat as I finished that introduction,” she told CNN in an interview.
Her handling of the incident won applause from CNN news anchors Victor Blackwell and Alisyn Camerota, who called for her to receive a prestigious news award. “Give that woman an Edward R. Murrow award right now!” Camerota said.
It’s the second time an insect has thrown itself at a Canadian on TV in recent weeks. Last month, a bee hurled down Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s throat during a televised news conference.

The Laryngology Team in the Department of Otolaryngology at Stanford University is thrilled to announce our newest course, Advanced Swallowing Course @ Stanford. This is a two day hybrid course, Friday, Apr 1, 2022, 1:30PM - 7:15PM and Saturday, Apr 2, 2022, 8:00AM - 5:30PM. Live & Synchronous ASHA CEUs Available. In-person registration is limited. Sorry, we cannot accommodate on-site registration with this type of format. Please go to swallowingcourse.stanford.edu/ to register for in-person or virtual. The cost of in-person is $250.00 and virtual is $200.00. This will not be recorded for viewing after the course.
This dysphagia course is designed for the intermediate to advanced SLP working with swallowing disorders. New research, updates on current approaches, and collaboration with Otolaryngologists will be covered. The course will have multiple expert speakers and cover multiple topics within the diagnosis of dysphagia.
Proof of vaccination and booster documentation will be required to enter the building. As of today, Feb 10, 2022, surgical masks are required. Will adjust according to our county and Stanford Healthcare recommendations.
Costs include conference materials, ASHA CEU hours with paperwork, and lunch/refreshment breaks. Registration must be made by March 28, 2022. Cancellation/Refund Policy: Registration, less 20% administrative charge, is refundable if written cancellation is received up to one week prior to the conference. No refunds will be given after this date. We reserve the right to cancel or change the program for due reasons. Cancellation by Stanford will result in a full refund of registration.

A bee flew straight into the mouth of Ontario Premier Doug Ford as he was speaking at a news conference on privatizing health care.
The insect can be seen flying around Ford’s face before it dives directly into his kisser, prompting him to suddenly step back from the microphone and reach into his mouth to try to get the bug out, video shows.
“Holy Christ, I just swallowed a bee!” Ford, 57, can be heard saying.
He drinks from a water bottle before quipping that the clip of the incident was going to get a lot of buzz, the video shows.
“This is going to be played over and over again,” said Ford.
Ford tried to shrug off his intimate moment with the insect, later laughing, “Man, he went right down the hatch.”
