Suzano Massacre

People gathered outside the school in Suzano after the shooting
Policemen secured the area around the school in Suzano
Shootings of this nature are not common in Brazil
The two gunmen who opened fire at a school in south-eastern Brazil and killed at least five teenagers were former pupils, officials say.
The shooting happened at about 09:30 local time (12:30 GMT) when the students were on a break at the state school in Suzano, near São Paulo.
Two school employees and the owner of a nearby shop - from whom the attackers stole a car - also died.
The gunmen, aged 17 and 25, both killed themselves after the attack.
Police say they found a revolver, a bow and arrow, and items that appeared to be explosives.
It is not yet known why the former pupils attacked the school - and while gun crime is common in Brazil, shootings of this nature are not.
Far-right President Jair Bolsonaro, who took office in January, has signed a decree making it easier for law-abiding citizens to own a gun, a key campaign promise, even though many restrictions remain in place.
Raul Brasil school has some 1,000 primary and secondary students, aged between six and 18, and a language centre. It is located in downtown Suzano, some 50km (31 miles) from São Paulo.
The gunmen entered the school and shot dead co-ordinator Marilena Ferreira Umezo, 59, before killing another employee, said Marcelo Salles, commander of police forces in São Paulo.
They then killed and fatally wounded five students and injured several others before killing themselves in a hallway.
Speaking to reporters outside the school, Mr Salles said that in his three decades with the police force he had "never seen anything like this".
Only secondary students were at the school at the time of the shooting. Police arrived eight minutes after being called and did not confront the gunmen.
"I was in the classroom during our break. I thought [the sound] was from bombs. When I realized they were gunshots, I stayed there. I only left when the police arrived," teacher Sandra Perez told O Estado de S.Paulo newspaper (in Portuguese).
"It's a very sad scene, the saddest thing I've seen in my entire life. The teenagers were brutally murdered," São Paulo state governor João Doria said after visiting the school.
A man was injured in another shooting near the school earlier, but police say they are still investigating if both cases are connected.

Three pieces of chilling video footage document the masscare which has rocked Brazil
The first clip shows the killers arriving at the school in Sao Paulo before a group of students are shown running for their lives
Another sickening video shows teen murderer Guilherme Taucci Monteiro opening fire on his classmates
The third clip shows the bodies of youngsters lying dead on the ground after the depraved mass killing

Similarities to the Columbine massacre

The school shooting in Brazil bears a striking resemblance to the Columbine massacre carried out in Colorado, US, in 1999
In both cases, two men who were ex-pupils unleashed horrific assaults on their former schools
The killers in both attacks were dressed in black and armed with firearms and explosives
And in Columbine, the shooters killed each other in a death pact, much like the depraved murderers in Brazil today

Teen killer shot uncle dead before massacre

Minutes before the school shooting, Taucci shot his own uncle Jose de Moraes three times in the chest.
He blasted his relative inside his office at the car showroom he owned 800 metres away from the school, just before 9am.
Witnesses said they heard the uncle having an argument with his nephew before the boy opened fire.
He was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery but died this afternoon, making him the tragedy’s eighth victim.

Guilherme Taucci Monteiro killed eight people today at a school in Sao Paulo along with another former student
SICKENING footage shows an evil ex-pupil, 17, entering his school in Brazil before pulling a gun from his trousers and firing at point blank range at a group of teens.
Guilherme Taucci Monteiro killed eight people today at the Raul Brasil State School in Sao Paulo along with another former student Henrique de Castro, 25.
The twisted pair killed six teenagers - four boys and two girls - while the school's principal and another staff member were also among those murdered.
After the massacre, the gunmen killed each other in a warped death pact at the school in the Suzano area of Sao Paulo.
Chilling footage shows Monteiro entering the building where a group of schoolkids are congregating along with at least one teacher.
The disturbed killer then reaches down into his trousers and pulls out a pistol before unloading on the unsuspecting victims.
Earlier, another clip emerged of dead bodies lying motionless on the ground shortly after police stormed the building.
More footage shows the shooters arriving at the school in the white car before children are shown running for their lives while some jumped over a boundary wall.
Authorities have confirmed that both shooters were former pupils of the school.
Dressed in black, the killers were armed with a 38. revolver, crossbows, machetes, a small axe and explosives while one was reportedly wearing a balaclava with a skull design on it.
The local police commander described the weapons used as "medieval."
Cops who raided Monteiro's home said he posted around 30 images of himself waving a gun and wearing a skull mask online.
Teenager Monteiro shot and killed his own uncle this morning at the victim's office located 800 metres from the school.
Raul Brasil's secretary claims the 17-year-old dropped out last year after “problems”, although she didn’t confirm whether he had been expelled or not.
The two killers arrived at the scene of the massacre in a rented white car and began the carnage by opening fire at a car wash in front of the school, injuring the owner who underwent surgery.
Four of the victims who died on the scene were high school students while two other teenagers were rescued but died at the hospital.
At least 17 people, mostly children, were also gunned down and are being treated in hospital, police said
Student Rosni Marcelo Grotliwed, 15, told news outlet G1 the attack occurred during the morning break and that one of the suspects had a gun and the other a knife.
He said: "We were in the cafeteria eating normally then we heard three pops. We knew instantly what that meant and we all tried to run to jump the wall of the dining area.
“The guys came after us and started killing a lot of people. When he ran out of bullets we had time to run."
According to the witness, one of the sick murderers attacked him with a knife but the brave student managed to escape.
He said: "My friend took a stab in the shoulder and another was shot. I ran away with a friend to my house and came back to get a friend."
The school has 1,067 students, who are aged ten-years-old and above, with 105 members of staff.
A teacher at the school, Sandra Perez, described the horrific attack: “It was at 9.30am. We heard shots.
"I was in the classroom at break time. I thought they were bombs. When I realised they were shots I stayed where I was.
"I just left the classroom when the police arrived, 20 minutes after.”
After entering the building, the two killers went to the school’s language centre where students were hiding inside a classroom.
The two former pupils shot themselves dead in the corridor in front of the classroom.
Police, who arrived eight minutes after the shooting started, did not have time to engage the murderers before they took their own lives.
Military policemen said they found items in the school which appeared to be explosives.
Mr Salles said: “The concern at the moment is to disactivate (sic) the explosives, rescue the victims and attend the families.”
The mother of one of the pupils injured said her daughter saw a friend shot dead at point blank range.
Leticia Melo, 15, sent a voice message to her mother Valero moments after the attack.
Valeria said: “I was at home and my daughter sent a message saying, ‘mummy, there’s shooting, mummy, there’s shooting’.
“She said there was a lot of confusion that that she saw her friend fall down dead.”
Globo News reported that Colonel Fábio Pelegrini said that the shooters were former students of the school and had carried a .38 revolver, a bow and arrow and objects that appeared to be Molotov cocktails.
A bomb squad had also been called to look at a wired suitcase carried by the shooters.
Military Police Colonel Marcelo Vieira Salles said the two responsible for the attack committed suicide in a corridor of the college.
A CBN reporter on the scene said the firing began while the kids were on break while some students described seeing the bodies of kids on the ground.
A total of 23 people were being treated at five different hospitals in the area, many of whom had suffered gunshot wounds, CBN reports.
Police and firefighters did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Witnesses described the terrifying scenes as bloodied pupils ran from the school
A witness, identified only as Juliano, told the Folha de S.Paulo newspaper they saw a gunman shooting outside the school before entering the building.
He said: "I live next door. I saw a commotion and I went there.
"I arrived and there was a commotion, a lot of children running out bloodied."
The adult victim is believed to be the principal of the school while the age and identity of the victims is not yet known.
Two helicopters were also reportedly dispatched to ferry victims to hospital.
Sao Paulo state governor-elect João Doria tweeted the victims had been "cruelly murdered"
