Survivor Season 48, Episode 9 Recap: 'Blindside at the Brink'

'This is the most unpredictable season yet!'

After last week’s shocking tribal council that saw a major power player sent packing, the remaining castaways are reeling—but the game waits for no one.

Reward Challenge: Feast or Famine

The tribes (now merged as 'Kalokalo') faced off in a brutal endurance challenge—balancing on a narrow beam while holding a heavy idol. The last person standing won a luxury reward: a full steak dinner, a cold beer, and a night in a private shelter.

Victor: Mitch, the underdog survivalist, outlasted the competition, securing the reward. But in a surprising move, he chose to share it with Lani (his closest ally) and Derek (a swing vote). This left Tasha and Raj fuming—was this a strategic mistake or a masterstroke?

Alliances Cracking Under Pressure

Back at camp, tensions flared:

Tasha, the queen of strategy, tried to rally her alliance (Raj, Nia, and Carlos) to take out Derek, calling him a 'floating threat.'

But Derek caught wind of the plan and flipped to Mitch and Lani’s side, whispering about a blindside.

Meanwhile, Nia—who had been flying under the radar—secretly debated flipping to save herself.

Immunity Challenge: A Test of Precision

The castaways had to toss sandbags onto a series of narrow platforms. After a nail-biting showdown:

Winner: Carlos, the firefighter, pulled off a clutch victory, securing safety and shaking up the game.

Tribal Council: Chaos Reigns

With Carlos immune, the votes were up in the air:

Tasha’s alliance planned to split votes between Derek and Lani in case of an idol.

But Mitch played his Hidden Immunity Idol on Lani, negating three votes against her.

Then—shockingly—Nia flipped, joining Mitch’s side to blindside Tasha in a 5-4 vote.

Eliminated: Tasha, the season’s biggest strategist, was sent to the jury in utter disbelief.

Final Thoughts

Mitch and Lani are now in control, but can they trust Derek and Nia?

Raj is left scrambling—was Tasha’s downfall his fault for not seeing Nia’s betrayal?

With the merge fully underway, no one is safe.
