Survivor 48 Episode 5 Recap: Betrayal, Blindsides, and a Shocking Tribal Council

Last night’s episode of Survivor 48 delivered one of the most chaotic Tribal Councils in recent memory, leaving fans stunned and one castaway’s torch snuffed in a jaw-dropping blindside.

The Immunity Challenge Shake-Up

The episode kicked off with a grueling endurance challenge where players had to balance on a narrow beam while holding a heavy sandbag above their heads. After an intense 45-minute showdown, underdog Mitch (Team Lairo) pulled off a surprise win, securing his safety and sending the rest of the cast scrambling.

Alliances Cracking Under Pressure

Back at camp, the power players scrambled. The dominant six-person alliance on Team Vata appeared solid—until whispers of dissent began. Priya, the season’s strategic frontrunner, grew suspicious of Derek, who had been secretly bonding with the outsiders. Meanwhile, Carlos, the lovable challenge beast, found himself caught in the middle as two factions emerged:

The Old Guard (Priya, Derek, and Hannah) wanted to stick to their original plan and vote out Lena, the quiet but observant social player.

The Rebels (Carlos, Lena, and wildcard Joey) plotted a shocking blindside against Hannah, the alliance’s glue.

A Tribal Council for the Ages

As Jeff Probst probed for cracks, tensions exploded. Derek gave a masterclass in deflection, while Joey dropped not-so-subtle hints about 'big moves.' When the votes were read, the result left everyone gasping:

Hannah’s shocked expression said it all—she never saw it coming. 'I got too comfortable,' she admitted in her exit interview. 'This game doesn’t reward loyalty.'
