Supergirl has almost become as well-known as Superman nowadays, meaning several fans have cosplayed as the famous Kryptonian.
When it comes to major heroes like Superman and Batman , there always seems to be a female sidekick version of them. In some cases, it leads to a pretty interesting character like Barbara Gordon , and other times you end up with Spider-Woman, a relatively ho-hum character. Supergirl falls somewhere in the middle, depending greatly on who is writing her.
Regardless of how she's portrayed, she's an important part of the Superman mythos, second only to the blue boy scout himself. She even managed to get her own television show because of it, one that, like the comics, can be pretty hit or miss.
This outfit is straight from a cover, and one of the few Supergirl costumes that felt like something that was genuinely hers rather than just a knock off of her cousin's.
It's a good look too, incorporating white in with the blue and red. It's a little revealing (less so by comic standards), but one that looks relaxed and almost casual. The simpleness of it lets a cosplayer like Jessica Storm focus more on having the background be perfect, and it certainly is.
Supergirl's rebirth title has been an upgrade over the very uneven run she had in the New 52, but then again, just about every character could say the same thing about that relaunch. As Ali said, they've done a good job of understanding what makes the superfamily tick.
That same wholesomeness feeds into this picture, at ease look on her face, smile enough to brighten the days of those around her. The sheer brightness of the colors in the suit ties into that whole feeling well.
The last thing you ever want to do is anger a Kryptonian; damage from a single punch from them will send a normal human to the hospital. From the look on Noe Nicky's face, whoever has drawn her ire may end up receiving more than just a single punch from her.
The way the cameras tilted helps bring a sense of intimidation, one where you know the task before you is insurmountable. It's a sense of strength and power that Kara ought to have more often in comics.
Flying is as connected to a Kryptonian as bats and gadgets are to Batman. It's one of their most notable powers, along with heat vision.
Kate having her arm raised and leg kicked out like that, helps simulate flight about as well as you could without the use of wires. Using the simple sky backdrop only helps enhance things, improving on a cosplay that is really just a long sleeve shirt and a red skirt. It proves that sometimes you don't need to spend a lot of money to make a good cosplay.
What's better than one Supergirl? How about two? Captain Kaycee and Darth Lexii both represent different versions of Kara. Kaycee is the more recognizable of the pair, wearing the traditional garb of Supergirl, showing some of that bubbly personality that Kara can have at times.
Lexii, on the other hand, is the dark Supergirl, a form that first was introduced in 2005 when she was exposed to Black Kryptonite. You couldn't tell she was the physical manifestation of Kara's trauma's from this photo though, two of them enjoying each other's company far too much.
If the DC Cinematic Universe hadn't tanked as horribly as it did, this could have been an image of Supergirl in a follow-up Man Of Steel movie. Instead, we will have to settle for the television show and an awesome looking cosplay.
Armored Hearts does a great job going away from Kara's usual look, creating something all her own. The mesh of the suit really gives it a Hollywood style look to it; the same goes the S emblazoned across her chest.
Black being associated with a darker version of a hero is a time-honored tradition in comics. While not nearly as iconic as something like Symbiote Spider-Man, dark Supergirl is a cool take on the character, if for no other reason than the outfit.
The black and silver is a nice ascetic, taking the character in a different direction from her cousin. Sylvia looks great in it, the mesh costume looking far better than the typical cloth you see. The stance she has, practically screaming, " come at me bro," is pretty badass too.
Waiting is something we are all doing right now, an action that not even superheroes can avoid having to do. From the look on her face, it feels like she's meant to meet up with another hero, perhaps her cousin, and they are taking forever to show up.
It makes you wonder how long the first hero is hanging around on those rooftops until their companion crops up. As for the cosplay, it's red is a shade or two deeper than others, making it a tad bit more fitting for the character.
You can't mention Supergirl without bringing up her cousin, Superman. Having the two of them in the same picture is always going to be nice, especially with a Superman that looks like that. The slickness of his hair and that one curl dangling in front of his forehead is perfect.
It's cool that both of their cosplay seem made of leather, a material you rarely see when it comes to Superman, always cloth or the more mesh style. It gives it a unique look.
Kara isn't as know for pulling her shirt away to reveal the S symbol beneath, nor does she fling her glasses aside with the gusto of Clark, but it's still a cool visual.
While it's admittedly thrown together due to finding a shirt in her top drawer, they do a good job of looking like the character. From the bleached blond hair to the tone of her skin, it all falls in line with how Kara looks in comics. It'd be interesting to see how a full-fledged cosplay would look.
