Just recently I got a jury summons in the mail. I have never had to be a part of a jury before and it says that I have to be a part of a case for a week. So everyday I have to call to make sure our group is going to court? I really don't want to do this and it just gives me a bunch of anxiety. Will I be fined if I ignore the summons? I've stayed under the radar all through my 20's and now at 34 they summoned me! Has anyone else done jury summons before and what is to be expected?

Yes, you will get fined if you just ignore it. I think they can even hit you with jail time, if you make yourself particularly problematic for them. Don't screw around with the courts.

I'm not sure how jury duty works in your district, but here's my own experience. I got the summons, asking me to fill out a questionnaire on their website. Did so, was instructed to check back the night before the court date (which was a few weeks out). When that came around, it said I would not be needed, don't show up.

Then about six months later I got another summons, going through the same rigmarole. Once again, wasn't actually called up. I expect I'll keep getting summons every few months, until they finally put me on a case. They always summon more jurors than they will actually need, because lawyers are allowed to disqualify a certain number, to avoid a biased jury. I suspect that's what keeps happening to me - I've been told lawyers don't like engineers on their juries, since we tend to ask too many questions, so I'm probably getting struck off by one side or the other.

It's been a minor annoyance for me, at most. Since I do have to prepare for it, make sure work knows I might be off, but so far nothing's actually happened. And also my county's website is just, awfully designed.

Jury duty is such a BS system, how can you rely on people to give fair verdicts if some of those people 100% don't want to even be there?

But also from my experience, I went to the courthouse, filled out a form, and waited to see if I was picked, and I wasn't so I ended up not needing to get involved in any courtroom dramas.
Two out of the three times I’ve been picked were at the worst possible times, like when I was on vacation from college and had to be back in a week. I’ve never actually been put on a jury though, they’ve always dismissed me, after I dragged myself out of bed at the crack of dawn to be there.
I missed the 2017 solar eclipse because I had a jury summons. )-:

I actually made it all the way to the juror interview/selection part, but they dismissed me. By then, I had sunk so much time waiting around that courthouse that I was kinda sad I didn't actually get to be on the jury in the end, haha. I did get to sit in the jury box at least!

I heard the holidays are actually a good time to get a summons cause they usually end up cancelling things (or at least postponing them?) but I'm not sure if that's true ¯\_(._.)_/¯
The one time I was picked I got out of it because I was a student.

I wanna be on a high profile case. I'll complain about being selected the entire time but afterwards I'll have an interesting story. A story that I might not be allowed to tell anyone? Not sure what information has to stay secret after a case is over

The downtown Portland courthouse has... the most bizarre mural inside of a circus. It's like, bright orange and pink and really cartoony, with a tent and elephants and people swinging around on trapezes and stuff. It is... in complete disunity with every other element of the courthouse

Normal courthouse is like, heavy-oak-beams-and-granite antique grandeur mixed with like, 'old water cooler and a broken styrofoam cup' office aesthetic. And then there's this bright orange elementary style circus trapeze mural that covers this huge wall floor to ceiling, while bedraggled citizens called in for jury duty zone out on cheap folding chairs down below
Yeah, what the others are saying: don't ignore it, you can get in trouble. Courts always call in more people than they need, because they expect that some people won't be able to attend or one of the lawyers won't want them to sit on the jury. Most likely, what'll happen is you'll have to spend a few hours sitting around before they decide they don't need you, but not showing up and hoping they won't notice is a recipe for trouble. Judges don't like to be ignored.

Last time I was called in, I had to check a website the day before to see if they still needed us (they did). Then I went to the courthouse, and we all watched a video explaining how the jury selection process would work. We all went into a courtroom with a judge and two lawyers, and we were asked a bunch of questions about our jobs and hobbies and stuff (including "is there any reason you don't want to serve on this jury?"). Then the lawyers went through the list of names and crossed out the people they didn't want, and everyone who wasn't selected (including me) went home. A long process but not too scary. You'll be okay. :)

i got a jury summons while i was at college (across the state). i panicked and rescheduled it for the first week of may.

i turn 21 then.

i made many mistakes.
Currently face down in a spilled, melted puddle of a 711 cherry slushie in a Denny's Parking Lot with the ruined remains of my Danny Phantom fanfiction just out of my grasp. I think I hear the whispers of the ghost boy laughing at me in the distance, but that may be the delirium.
While it can be annoying and boring, just do it.

The first time I was summoned I was told to phone in and I was told I wasn't needed.

The second time I was summoned I was part of a jury pool for a case, but I wasn't picked.

The third time I was summoned I was in an actual jury, found the guy guilty for driving without a license, not guilty for possession of drugs, and a hung jury on illegal possession of a firearm.

I wonder what the envelopes with the summons look like?

I'm suddenly very afraid that I've thrown some out in the past without looking at 'em.
You can probably find specimen photos of how they look on the internet. Their appearance probably varies depending on your jurisdiction.
RJDG14: I'm wondering if it's possible for a member of a jury to vote in favour of finding somebody not guilty even when there is evidence that they committed a crime

RJDG14: I've never been summoned myself (your odds of receiving a summons in a single year in England is about 1% or slightly less) but I'm wondering if it's possible for a member of a jury to vote in favour of finding somebody not guilty even when there is evidence that they committed a crime, for instance if somebody is being charged with low level cannabis possession but the member of the jury believes the possession of cannabis should be decriminalised and disagrees with their charge on those grounds?

R34 Artist: Finally I have finally finish multiple pictures of art for this character
*accidentally summons satan* oh shoot! wait, can you draw?
At this point, they just make a female character just for the naughty
After checking e6, I can confirm there is an image, albeit a pretty amateur one.
However, the one with green and black hair appears to be pretty popular.
Crap, with eyes like those, I don't need a r34 version, just plain moar! =XwX=
Did someone make a sexy rabbid as furry bait. Why. WHY.

A gay male/male Choose Your Own Adventure transformation furry sex text game/story.
You are single and bored! How do you fix this? You decide to purchase a magic book and summon the boyfriend of your dreams!
You start with the choice of summoning one of sixteen different dream boyfriend types. The choices you make will likely result in at least one transformation to you and/or your new boyfriend. Mostly M/M pairing and sex scenes, but a few choices will result in sex changes (which includes F/M, M/F, and F/F pairings) and there are a few group scenes with more than two characters. There are a few bad endings. The bear, pup, gnoll, and royal hotty tend to have the weirder fetish scenes.
