The SC decision declared that Sulu is not part of the BARMM because its inclusion violates Section 18, Article X of the 1987 Constitution.
Sulu is a province in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) of the Philippines. It has a population of 1,000,108 (2020 Census figures) distributed over 19 municipalities. The provincial capital is the Municipality of Jolo.
Sulu is officially excluded from the BARMM, reshaping the region's political structure and resolving the longstanding dispute.
