A wide range of sexually transmitted diseases, including chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, syphilis, genital warts (HPV) and hepatitis B can be transmitted during a blowjob -- in other words, when your penis is sucked or you suck someone else's penis.
There's a much lower risk of HIV being passed on, but it's not impossible.
Many sexually transmitted diseases can be passed on during close physical contact that may not involve exchange of body fluids. While using a condom during oral sex would reduce this risk to some extent, it won't eliminate it.
The risk of HIV transmission through oral sex is much less than that from anal or vaginal sex -- but it is not zero.
Sucking the penis of an HIV-infected man, with ejaculation in the mouth, is the oral sex activity that may occasionally involve HIV transmission. (Other forms of oral sex, including cunnilingus, are extremely low risk for HIV.) Factors that may increase the risk of HIV transmission when sucking a penis are oral ulcers, bleeding gums, genital sores and the presence of other sexually transmitted diseases.
Regular screening and testing for sexually transmitted diseases is important, especially if you had had oral sex with several partners since your last checkup. Also, if you are concerned about a recent sexual encounter that may have exposed you to HIV, the best way to resolve these fears is by getting an HIV test.
