This presentation focuses on suggestions and tips for how to facilitate the processing, screening and review of submissions, how to avoid delays and negative decisions. Input is included from the Office of Submissions and Intellectual Property, the Regulatory Project Management Division and the clinical and quality review bureaus.
Drugs are authorized for sale in Canada once they have successfully gone through the drug review process. This process is the means by which a drug application is reviewed by scientists in the Health Products and Food Branch (HPFB) of Health Canada, and on occasion, outside experts, to assess the safety, efficacy and quality of a drug.

Submissions accepted for review are then reviewed. The conclusion of review comes when all involved review streams have completed their reviews, and the submission is then moved to the final decision step. From the final decision step, a submission may either be issued a letter of approval, or a letter refusing to approve.

Understanding the Changing Manuscript Statuses Generally, manuscript status can be broadly classified into three categories: Submission, Review, and Decision. In the Submission stage, the manuscript is received by the journal's editorial team and the author can track the status of their submission through the submission system.
DELEGATED REVIEW: Submissions for delegated review are accepted on a rolling basis (i.e., not subject to a submission deadline). For delegated review, please submit the scanned and signed version of the appropriate Application Form and accompanying study documents to the REB Office.
