Students from Russia Win the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC)
The 49th International Collegiate Programming Contest(ICPC) has ended in Baku. This is one of the largest programming competitions in the world. The team from Russia became the absolute winner. Students of St. Petersburg State University demonstrated the best result among 140 teams from 103 countries. They surpassed teams from the University of Tokyo (2nd place), Peking University (3rd place), Harvard (6th place) and the University of Massachusetts (8th place).

- Maxim Turevsky, 4th year student of the Bachelor's programme "Mathematics"
- Fedor Ushakov, 1st year student of the Master's programme "Modern Mathematics".
The students were coached by St. Petersburg State University professors Andrey Lopatin, Alexander Savchenko and Ivan Kazmenko. The faculty's partners include Yandex, Sber and Gazprom-Neft.
Another Russian team from Saratov State University also took a prize-winning place, receiving bronze medals.
Each team of the contest consists of three members. They solve algorithmic tasks within a limited time. The greatest number of points is gained by those participants who make the least number of mistakes. Teamwork skills, creativity and innovativeness of solutions are also evaluated.
