A level results day is on 18 August 2022. This is the day when British students finishing high school receive their finals results and find out which university they have been accepted to. This means that a very large number of first year students will be booking their student accommodation on, and immediately after, this date.
London is one of the most popular cities in the UK to study in, so many properties we list may sell out fast during this period. If you didn’t get the grades you were hoping for and haven’t received any offers from universities, you can still find a place to study through UCAS Clearing. Clearing is a process that lets universities list courses where they have extra places available.
Clearing for 2022 has already started, so if you didn’t receive any offers, you can use it to find courses where there are places available. This way you can still go to university this autumn, even if you didn’t get any offers based on your A level results. In London at least these universities have offered places through Clearing in 2022:

London can trace its origins to the Roman times. It has been a major settlement for over two thousand years and is currently the largest city and the capital of the United Kingdom. London is truly one of the most interesting cities in the world, where there is always something going on. It’s one of the most iconic world cities, one which has the perfect blend of old and new. Historic landmarks like Westminster Abbey and Big Ben share a skyline with the iconic London Eye and the skyscrapers of the City.
London is also famous for its many distinct neighbourhoods, each with their own unique attractions and atmosphere. So no matter where you live in this vibrant city, each neighbourhood will have something for you.
Student living in London can be an incredible experience. From green spaces and quaint pubs in Kensington & Chelsea, to the creative haven of Shoreditch, students can explore the city’s network of neighbourhoods, each hugely diverse in their own distinct character. Kings Cross is jam-packed full of food and music venues, thanks to its close proximity to many of London’s top universities, while the City of London dazzles with its array of iconic skyscrapers. Borough Market next to London Bridge is a great spot for any food lovers, having served Londoners since the 12th century.
When the weather is beautiful, you can enjoy it in one of London’s many green spaces. Be sure to check out Hyde Park and Regent’s Park, as well as the fantastic views from the top of Primrose Hill. When it comes to shopping, you can find everything in London. Head to Oxford Street to shop ‘til you drop. Make sure to catch a West End show or a Premier League football match during your time in the British capital, both great experiences even for people who are not normally fans of theatre or football.
When you’ve spent a few months in London, you’ll want to see things outside the city centre as well. London has some great neighbourhoods and attractions also outside the fare zone 1 of the London Underground network. Every week, Camden Market attracts about 250,000 visitors looking for great finds in the many small shops. Greenwich is a wonderful neighbourhood in South East London and also home to the famous Greenwich Observatory and the zero meridian. If you like beautiful flowers and nature, Kew Gardens near Richmond is not to be missed.
With an urban population of about 10 million, it’s not surprising that London has a long list of universities to serve its student population. There are currently 40 universities and other institutions of higher education in London (excluding foreign universities with branches in London) and a student population of about 400,000, a large number of them international students.
This means that if you want to spend your student years in the UK’s capital city, you have a huge array of options to choose from. Here are only a few of the most famous ones.
University College London was established in 1826 as London University. It was the first university in London and the first in England to admit students of any religion. Today UCL is the second-largest university in the UK by total enrolment (behind only the Open University) and a world-leading institution of higher learning. The QS 2023 World University Rankings ranks UCL as the 8th best university in the world.
UCL also has a great location, with the main campus being in the Central London area of Bloomsbury. The university offers more than 400 different degree programmes and has students from over 150 countries, so if you’re looking for a university that offers a wide range of things to study and an international atmosphere, look no further than the University College London.
King’s College London was founded in 1829, but the earliest records of medical teaching in the St Thomas Hospital date all the way back to 1561. KCL has a great location, thanks to its several campuses in Central London. In the QS World University Rankings for the year 2023 it was ranked as the 37th best university in the world and the 7th best in the United Kingdom. The university has about 31,000 students from 150 different countries. KCL staff and alumni have won more than 10 Nobel prizes and have contributed to the discovery of things such as the DNA structure, Hepatitis C and the Higgs boson (named after KCL alumnus Peter Higgs).
Imperial College London was founded in 1907. In the course of its over 100 years of history, it has become one of the leading universities in the world. In the 2023 QS World University Rankings it was ranked as the 6th best university in the world, the third best in the United Kingdom and the best one in London. ICL focuses exclusively on science, technology, medicine and business. The main campus is in a great location in South Kensington, right between two world-famous landmarks, the Natural History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall.
The London School of Economics and Political Science ( LSE ) was established in 1895. Its reputation might be that of a business school, but in reality LSE offers a lot more than just that. The university has produced many notable alumni not just in economics but also in fields as varied as law, politics, literature, history and media. It is especially strong in producing successful people in the world of business though, and is the alma mater of more billionaires than any other university in Europe.
LSE is ranked as the 56th best university in the world by the 2023 QS World University Rankings. This makes it the 8th best university in the UK and the 4th best in London. The campus has a great location in Westminster in the heart of London.
In addition to the ones mentioned above, London is home to dozens of other great universities. Whatever you want to study, you’ll surely find a university and a degree programme that is right for you. Some notable ones include the University of the Arts London, which is a federation of six arts colleges, Goldsmiths University , which specialises in arts and design, the University of West London and the University of Greenwich .
Applying for student accommodation with Student.com is very simple. First you need to figure out which property you’d like to live in. After choosing your preferred property, click ‘View rooms’ to go to the property page. Most contracts last for one academic year. If you would like to stay for a longer or a shorter time, contact us and our booking consultants will be able to give you information about which landlords are currently accepting stays of different lengths. If you’d like to stay in your accommodation over the summer as well, this can usually be arranged as many of the properties we list also accept bookings for summer accommodation.
We currently offer three different types of student rooms in London.
A Shared Room has two or more people sleeping in the same bedroom. Other living spaces, like kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms are shared with occupants of other rooms.
In a Private Room you have a private bedroom just for yourself. Depending on the property, you might also get a private bathroom. Other facilities are shared with other tenants.
In an Entire Place, you get a fully self-contained studio property. This means no sharing, as your bedroom and all other facilities in your flat are just for you, including a private bathroom and a private kitchenette for cooking meals.
This depends on the property you rent, but most of our properties in London have all bills included, so you’ll only have to pay the rent and nothing else. Remember to make sure if this is the case with the property you’ve chosen though. You can see what bills are included on the property page of every property.
We carefully vet all the landlords we feature and only list properties from trusted student accommodation providers to ensure that all the housing options we feature are trustworthy and safe.
Many of our PBSAs (purpose-built student accommodations) have safety features like controlled-access gates and 24/7 onsite security.
If you’ll be in London before moving in, this can be arranged with our booking consultants. Many of the properties we list have excellent photos and videos available on the property pages though, so even if you won’t be able to get to London before your move-in date, you will be able to get a good idea of what your accommodation will look like.
A guarantor is a person who signs the rental contract with you and commits to paying your rent if you can’t. A guarantor is most typically a family member, but it can be anyone. Most UK landlords want you to have a guarantor, so you’ll most likely need one in London.

The Met Police want to speak to the man pictured in connection with the incidents
On 16 December, a 13-year-old girl was sexually touched after a man followed her as she got off the 229 bus on Crossway, Thamesmead.
On 12 January, a 16-year-old girl was approached by a man on Poplar Place, Thamesmead, who asked her for directions. He then pushed her against a fence and sexually touched her.
On 13 January, a 17-year-old girl was followed off the 422 bus and into a property by a man at Artillery Place, Woolwich. He grabbed the back of her leg and caused her to fall when he then sexually touched her.
On 18 January, a 16-year-old girl was approached by a man who asked for directions on Kentlea Road, Thamesmead, and then sexually touched.

Police believe four incidents of teenage girls being sexually assaulted in south east London may be linked.
Four girls aged between 13 and 17 have been "sexually touched" by a man between 16 December and 18 January, the Met Police said.
The force has released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incidents.
Det Sgt James Robson said officers were doing all they could to identify the person responsible.

Coming to London to live or study for the first time can be daunting – especially for women. As with many other large capital cities, London has some safety concerns and female travellers may wish to be cautious.
There are many reasons why women look for female only accommodation, whether for cultural reasons or just because they prefer female company. Sharing a house, bathroom or even a bedroom with someone of the opposite gender can be uncomfortable – which is why female only accommodation options are becoming more popular.
If you’re moving to London or planning a visit, here are some ways to find short or long term female only accommodation to suit your needs.
Many hostel providers have recognised the need for female only options, and London has a good selection of hostel accommodation which is strictly girls only. For example, there are no men allowed at St Christopher’s at The Oasis, or Park House Hostel. Many other hostels have started to incorporate female only dorm rooms, to appeal to more travellers.
Staying with a host family has numerous benefits, and of course you will be paired with a host according to your preferences. When booking homestay accommodation you can choose which area of London you would like to live in, and whether you have any other requirements in regards to pets and people in the household. If you would prefer a female only household then you can flag this as a requirement at the booking stage, and you’ll be matched with a suitable host.
If you are looking in particular for student accommodation, some of these facilities are now female only. Queen Elizabeth House is designed with female students in mind, and houses 100 women in single bedrooms with catering included. However student housing in London is never cheap!
If you are looking for more permanent accommodation in the city, then you’ll need to search for a room to rent. When browsing adverts for spare rooms online you’ll notice many people request a female housemate, and they usually give details of who you’ll be sharing the property with. However bear in mind that tenants change frequently in London – so you’ll need to have a guarantee that any future tenants will also be female.
