Stroke Work
Stroke Work
Stroke work (SW) refers to the work done by the ventricle to eject a volume of blood (i.e., stroke volume). The force that is applied to the volume of blood is the intraventricular pressure. Therefore, ventricular stroke work can be estimated as the product of stroke volume and mean intraventricular pressure during systolic ejection.
This stroke work calculator estimates the work done by the ventricle to eject a volume of blood based on stroke volume and mean arterial pressure.
Stroke work is the amount of energy produced by the heart during one complete contraction, or heartbeat. This term is crucial in understanding how efficiently the heart pumps blood throughout the body, as it reflects the work done to eject blood into circulation with each beat. Stroke work is directly related to cardiac output and the pressure-volume relationship in the heart, providing ...
Cardiac work, aka, stroke work: the work that the heart performs to eject blood; thus, it is a measurement of ventricular power. Stroke work is equivalent to the area under the curve in the pressure-volume loop. Be careful not to confuse stroke work (stroke power) with stroke volume (the amount of blood).
The Heart Stroke Work calculator computes the amount of work performed by the heart during a single heartbeat to pump blood based on the Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) and Stroke Volume(SV).
Left ventricular stroke work (SW LV) and vascular impedance spectrums were calculated noninvasively using in-house models based on central blood pressure waveforms, along with hemodynamic parameters from echocardiograms. Patients with higher pre-procedural SW LV and lower vascular impedance were more likely to experience improved QOL after TAVR.
Preload recruitable stroke work (PRSW) refers to a load-independent measure of cardiac contractility that is assessed by analyzing the relationship between stroke work and preload. It provides insights into ventricular systolic function by evaluating how stroke work varies with changes in preload.
Cardiac work, also known as stroke work, is similar to the concept of work in physics. In physics, work is defined as force times distance. Stroke work can be thought of as the work performed by the left ventricle to eject a volume of blood, defined as stroke volume multiplied by mean aortic pressure.
Abstract Background: The ventricular stroke work refers to the work done by the left or right ventricle to eject the volume of blood during one cardiac cycle, called stroke volume. Sarnoff and Berglund were one of the first to calculate the stroke work from the pressure volume diagram in 1954. However, they published a wrong unit of measurement for the stroke work, namely gram meter.
The Cardiac Stroke Work calculator computes work done by the ventricle to eject a volume of blood into the aorta based on the afterload pressure, stroke volume, blood stroke mass and blood flow velocity.
