Despite being on the tame end of the sex worker spectrum (if they're even really on it at all), strippers are the butt of far more jokes than their sex-having, escort counterparts . Don't be a bad father, lest your daughter grow up to be a stripper. Think twice before you sign a birth certificate, because you don't want your daughter to have a "stripper name." And so on, etc. It's a little odd that people seem to be so wary of them, given that strip clubs are an approximate $6 billion industry.
So while, yes, you'd probably your daughter grow up to be something other than an exotic dancer, what's it actually like? Someone asked that very question on AskReddit , and the responses have flowed in, to say the least.
In fact, the responses were so great (and so robust, individually) that I'm only going to drop a few of them in here, because no one wants to read the stripper version of War And Peace , especially not on mobile. But by all means scroll through the whole thread and get some insight into a very popular industry that most men know shockingly little about.
I was a stripper for a cumulative 7 years. Not anymore. Have a young daughter, and am going to school for engineering because real life marketable skills are good.
First, what people experience really depends on where they work. Some clubs are pretty clean, and have strict rules on drug use, where others are pretty much brothels. Ive worked in both settings across the country.
Money is good, but unstable at times, and also depends on where you work. Its weird but it can seem seasonal, as some times the place will be dead for weeks, especially durinv day shifts. Also, doing "more" doesnt mean earning more, but some clubs attract more wealthy clientele.
Generally, your coworkers can be pretty catty. This can be from trying to "steal" regulars, and trying to get you fired. Its really depends on the person. Some girls show up, and stay out of the drama, while others are drunk or high (or both) and create as much as possible. I actually met quite a few friends dancing Im still in contact with, so there are some normal people who arent total dicks. I also am good friends with some of the DJs I worked with, because if you stay at a place a while, sometimes you feel like a pseudo-family.
Kissing ass to doormen, DJs and managers is a good way to keep from getting fired, and not having a good relationship with them will be an issue for you in the long run. Also, usually the management date girls, so its common for the DJ to be in a relationship with another dancer, and then they break up and start dating another one. This causes drama.
Customers can be creepy, but usually arent. To be honest, I had a lot of fun because you meet some really interesting people.
I dont know. It really wasnt as bad as people assume it is, but you do have to have a thick skin, solid sense of yourself and your values to not turn into a total asshole. Some girls become really egotistical in the industry, which is sad. I think that my overall experience was fine, and helped shape me as a person today, and reinforced what I feel I value in life.
Not sure if I'm too late for this thread. But am a real life stripper in a big city. I grew up fairly normally, immigrated from Korea and went to an elite private high school and am currently on a leave of absence at a top private university. I've been in the business for about a year now. Unfortunately in terms of education I'd say I'm the exception not the rule. When I first started I definitely expected to see a lot more girls who were in college or had graduated from college. Obviously there are a few here and there who are going to community colleges or had started in programs like that, etc. A lot of girls do sell and do drugs (mostly coke) to sell high priced rooms (our rooms are 800 an hour, we get 480 of it).
In terms of the job, what can I say? It's an extremely good source of income - usually around 8k a month working 4 days a week. You get to choose your own schedule and work as many hours as you'd like. You have to deal with a lot of assholes on a daily basis, but you do get to treat them way worse (if you want) than you would in a normal customer service job.
It's also a lot more physically demanding than I thought it would be. Your schedule gets fucked up - I sleep at around 6 or 7 am and wake up at 3 or 4 most days. Not seeing a lot of sunlight fucks with your body. So in addition to physically dancing, walking, moving around all night I get zero sunlight = pretty shitty. It's also mentally exhausting to be switched "on" all nights in order to make money. The money itself is also stressful sometimes because if you make nothing - you walk out with nothing. So being complacent and not trying is not really an option if you have bills to pay.
Overall, I'd say I really enjoy this job. I meet a lot of girls - most of whom are nice. It gives you a tremendous amount of confidence and a sense of control. I applaud the women who can do it for so long. It's physically and mentally demanding. It fucks with a lot of girls views on men and relationships, and prevents a lot of girls from having healthy relationships. I got lucky and had my long term boyfriend before I started dancing and he's cool with it. I don't do anything dirty, only lap dance. A lot of girls choose to do a little extra here and there (let guys suck on their tits and finger them, or straight up handjobs ) but that is up to the girl. Personally I think those girls kind of ruin it for the business, but again that is my opinion.
Sorry for the long ramble but wanted to make sure an actual stripper answered this thread. I'm happy to answer any questions people have.
Currently stripping. Writing this post at work because I don't feel like talking to clients at the moment.
The good: -I make my own schedule. -I work at a place that only collects a door fee, so other than tipping out the DJ and security, I keep all of my money. -I don't pay taxes on most of what I make. -Pole dancing is a fantastic work out. -Anddd obviously, the money. I made more yesterday than I did working an entire week at my last job.
The bad: -Other strippers can be a little difficult to work with. I lock all of my belongings up, and mostly stay out of the other girls' way. Most are friendly, but I've seen that they can turn aggressive REAL quick. -I have to deal with a lot of rejection, and I had to learn not to take it personally. Different strokes for different folks! -I have to fend off sexual harassment CONSTANTLY. For goodness sake, men, stop trying to finger strippers. Let me do my job. You're supposed to be the one getting pleased, not me. You wanted this, I'm only here for the money. -We get a bad reputation. I don't appreciate that people assume that I'm a prostitute when I say I'm a stripper.
And ya, there's a lot of drugs and alcohol. But with self control those aren't really a problem. Everything is ok in moderation. I usually have a few drinks at the beginning of my shift.
So ya. It's not all bad. I just leave all the bad shit at work. It's a job, not a lifestyle.
TL;DR Stripping is mentally taxing but financially rewarding. Don't try to finger strippers.
It's really not as gross and seedy as people make it out to be. As long as you stay straight, don't get into drugs, and leave everything behind when you go home at the end of the night, it's easy, quick, and fun money. The girls you work similar shifts with become good acquaintances and you'll get to know the bouncers, djs, bartenders etc..
For the most part I do love it. I have become so much more confident in my appearance, attitude, and dance moves since I started, and since then have learned a few pole tricks that make my job a cool workout. It's much more of an incentive when youre quite literally charging people to look at you. Most of my daytime customers are regulars that are just there to hang and see pretty girls, no harm no foul.
On the flip side, it can be annoying and sometimes dangerous. Someone who is not headstrong will have a hard time drawing the line when the boundaries are crossed because they don't want to burst their "I'm a cute girl at the bar who's interested in you" façade. Touching a girls pussy and asshole are not allowed. Unfortunately guys don't like being told 'No'. Personally I hate when people play with my nipples and guys will feel like they are entitled to any part of your body. When I tell them not to they get downright offended so most of the time I just suck it up and deal. Also the fear of being followed home is evident.
All in all its really not a bad gig. I have alot of (sober) fun and have grown close with my co-workers and regulars throughout the year. I understand people have alot of questions I didn't cover so feel free to ask!
Like I said, they have A LOT to say, and clearly aren't shy about talking about their taboo professions. Overall, there were some general themes: In some ways it's like any other workplace; customers aren't quite as bad as you'd think; alcohol and drug use is rampant.
Definitely go check out the whole thread .
Strippers often have to pay to work at a club. It may cost them as much as $150 per shift for things like "house fees" and non-dancer staff tip-outs.

A stripper has gone viral on social media after claiming she danced naked in front of her own brother at his bachelor party.
The wild story was relayed by the exotic entertainer — known only as Kendra — in a TikTok posted May 15 that has since clocked upwards of 10 million views.
“I ended up being the stripper at my brother’s bachelor party and I didn’t realize until I was completely nak3d,” the dancer, whose handle is @kendradollx , wrote in text overlaying the video.
Kendra did not explain where or when the purported party occurred, but the brunette beauty has previously revealed that she works at a strip club “in the south.”
The TikTok in question has since sparked fierce debate, attracting hundreds of commenters apparently skeptical of the entertainer’s tawdry tale.
“I would’ve noticed all my brother’s friends and most definitely my brother,” wrote one woman below the contentious clip.
“Things that never happened: this,” as another detractor bluntly put it.
Others leapt to Kendra’s defense, sympathizing that they could only imagine how embarrassing the incident must have been.
“Do y’all realize how dark it is in those places?” one user snapped back at the social media cynics.
The Post has contacted Kendra to request further details about her erotic dancing disaster.
Yet another faction of commenters claimed karma was to blame for the groom-to-be having his sister show up as the stripper at his bachelor party, arguing that he shouldn’t have been ogling other women before his wedding.
“Strippers at bachelor parties is so weird to me. No shame to strippers at all, but I would never be okay with my boyfriend looking at a girl like that,” one asserted.
Kendra is the latest figure to go viral on TikTok by recounting a wild story that took place inside a strip club.
In March, California real estate agent Missy Peterson shocked her boyfriend of two years by secretly placing a tracker on his car, following him to a strip club and hopping onto its stage, where she then executed a devastatingly sexy stunt.
A TikTok testimonial detailing her saucy showcase has garnered more than 5 million views.
“I got onstage in a bra and thong that one of the strippers gave me, walked up to him and said, ‘Oh, you want a show? I’ll give you a show,’ ” Peterson, 40, told The Post of her X-rated exploit — which ultimately earned her $100 in tips.

You should know: The answer above provides general health information that is not intended to replace medical advice or treatment recommendations from a qualified health care professional.
I went to a strip club in Canada and was approached by a stripper who offered to give me a lap dance for $10.00 which was quite inexpensive. When she came up to me she immediately started touching my penis. While performing the lap dance she unzipped my pants (this has never happened to me before during a lap dance). Before I knew what was happening she was trying to have intercourse with me (for no additional money). I ended up pentrating her about 2" deep for about 10 seconds.
Then I put my shirt over my penis and she continued to grind against me with the shirt in between my penis and her body. When I got back to my hotel I noticed a little blood on my penis (evidently from what happened after the penetration). In your opinion what was my risk of contrating HIV from vaginal fluids that remained on my penis during the grinding motion? What is my overall risk? I'm positive that she had HIV. Why else would she be so reckless?
Please respond. I am extremely anxious about this and am experiencing symptoms that could be related to HIV.
Would an RNA test be conclusive at 6 weeks?
"Accidental" intercourse with a stripper??? Hmmmmmm . . . OK. If you say so, I'll believe you. Millions wouldn't, but I will.
Since I wasn't there to witness all the details of this accidental nookie, the best I can say is that your estimated risk would be that of unprotected insertive vaginal sex. The risk per episode of receptive vaginal sex with an HIV-positive partner is estimated to be 0.1% to 0.2%. Your risk would be "less," because you were the insertive partner, and because we don't know the status of your bucking bronco lap rider. Also, your exposure was brief 10 seconds.
Regarding HIV testing, an ELISA test with a confirmatory Western Blot three months or more after a potential exposure is recommended for screening. PCR-RNA is not recommended for HIV screening, due to the rate of false-positive results.
Good luck on your test. We will all be sending you our best karma for a negative test result.
