According to statistics that probably matter , there is more content on Pornhub Premium than there is on

Netflix
. And while Netflix is beating Pornhub Premium in subscribers, Pornhub Premium has had over 5 million signups since its inception in 2015, watching over 200,000 videos, with 8,000 being added each month. Netflix adds a handful of movies and shows each month and comparing Pornhub Premium to Netflix is a futile and stupid gesture.
Comparing the two platforms isn't really the point of this. The point is that porn, on whatever website or service that is offering it online, is like the mighty redwood, standing tall in a forest of tiny pine trees. I don't even know if those two trees grow side by side, but for the sake of argument, this forest is magical, so relax.
Porn has had a rocky path in its growth history, but as we enter the meaty portion of the age of content it should be important to note that porn is the one streaming service that will outlast them all.
There are always some downsides to stating the obvious. The first being that those whom you are stating it to refuse to accept the inevitability or truth of the statement because it generally requires some sort of self-reflection, or reconciliation with their own feelings. The second downside to stating the obvious is that your statement will be immediately accepted and everything else you have to say may as well be a gentle buzzing that eventually fades into nothing.

adding a streaming service and all the other crap we already are acutely aware of, it seems that all we have time for in life is consuming content. By that logic, the thought of consuming porn content on top of all the non-porn content we consume should feel like a daunting task, but it's not. It's easy, generally free and because of its construction, quickly and efficiently delivered. Plus, when it comes to paying for a streaming service, it was here first.
"From the beginning, adult entertainment has pioneered the content subscription model with pay-sites and are innovators in terms of supporting new models like the traffic generation tube sites. While mainstream content providers play catch up and adopt subscription models for fear of missing out," says a chipper YouPorn representative. "Today at YouPorn, we take pride in offering our users a wide variety of content. Not only do we host an extensive selection of engaging multimedia, we’ve worked hard to bring our community of billions other means of joy and pleasure designed for all devices. By providing fun and valuable content on YouPorn’s World Blog and sharing insights that benefit users like monthly sex horoscopes at yoursexzodiac.com , our streaming services continue to exceed the depths of other offerings."
While a sex zodiac probably isn't the thing that turns a Hulu customer into a paying YouPorn customer, that doesn't have to be the conflicting situation here. There is no conflict. Both exist side by side, even if most of us would be afraid to admit it. You at least spend as much time on porn sites daily as you do trying to choose a movie on Netflix. YouPorn recently launched a standalone app , which doesn't change any paradigms, but allows me to use the word paradigm in a sentence, something I haven't done since the late 1990s.
Pornhub and YouPorn and RedTube and xHamster and all the other sites out there are not the same thing as your Netflix or Hulu or

Amazon
Prime or Apple TV+ or SlingTV or all the other streaming movie and TV sites out there, but they are also the exact same thing. They are companies that provides content for us to consume at a level before unheard of and without fathomable reason. Did you think, back in 1994 as you were downloading a pornographic .gif file pixel by pixel while watching cable TV out of the corner of your eye that this is where we would be? Streaming porn on our phones while we scroll through Netflix looking for a movie that wasn't released in 1998?
We are at content overload. We are willingly acting out the most disturbing scenes from A Clockwork Orange , our eyes wide open to the sheer volume of content that is available and being made available for our consumption. As streaming services reach critical mass and we enter a phase in which we're just paying for cable again, porn calmly continues existing, growing in form, content and function, while we scramble to budget the three streaming services we can afford and lament the rest. Then watch a bunch of porn.
Because streaming is not limited to our couches anymore. There is a television in every room, because it's in our pocket. And porn has quickly adapted and will always be there. In 2018 YouPorn users predominately watched porn from their mobile devices, which accounted for 60% of overall traffic by device. Desktop traffic made up for 28% of overall traffic and then tablets, the least used device, made up 11% of traffic. It's certainly easier to watch porn on your phone than some foreign language thriller whose lighting pallet can only be described as shadow in a dark alley drenched in motor oil .
Porn has always been here and has paved the way for modern streaming services and will always focus on innovation and forward momentum , while the mainstream streaming services will continue to flood the market with content and just chip away at each other, fighting for scraps of business that justify their massive production budgets.
Eventually Netflix will face a reckoning over the quality of its original content. Eventually we'll have consumed all the cancelled TV shows on Hulu. Eventually we'll realize re-watching Disney movies has a fetid staleness to it we cannot explain. Eventually, we'll realize that it's all just a bit too much.
But not porn. Never porn. The commitment will always be less stressful, the content will always be fresh (unless you prefer to watch porn from the same era as Mash , which is all you, buddy) and the technology will always be adaptable and functional. After all the rest of the streaming services are eventually consolidated into one, massive subscription service, porn will still be humming along — defining industries like VR and AR and just being that soft landing that we all need after a day of falling through content.

Netflix of porn? Pornhub offers streaming service
Published Thu, Aug 6 2015 9:12 AM EDT Updated Thu, Aug 6 2015 1:01 PM EDT
The adult entertainment industry, which was at the forefront of so many technological leaps long ago, found itself sitting on the sidelines as the biggest revolution of the past 10 years occurred.
While Netflix and Apple found ways to persuade customers to pay for songs and programming that were once regularly stolen, porn companies relied on the DVD model, which devastated the industry. Now, one of the industry's largest companies is hoping to play catch-up.
Pornhub, a division of porn uber-conglomerate Mindgeek, announced on Thursday a new service offering unlimited, ad-free, high definition streaming of adult films for a monthly charge of $9.99—a model that should sound familiar to Netflix customers.
The company hopes that by offering a deep catalog of films—featuring current and well-known porn stars from previous generations, including Jenna Jameson and Christy Canyon —fans will be willing to pay a nominal fee for high-quality video content.
"Users will benefit from enhanced access to all of the content they already enjoy on Pornhub.com—with improved streaming quality—as well as over 100,000 full-length premium exclusive scenes at the touch of a finger or click of the mouse," Pornhub Vice President Corey Price said in a statement. "We're confident our fan base will totally embrace this product and reinforce our position as the top provider of on-demand adult video."
Due to the nature of the service, dubbed Pornhub Premium, many streaming devices are unlikely to support it. Officials at the company, though, say the service will be available at launch for users of Android devices and on Roku.
The company says it also plans to roll out virtual reality integration sometime next year.
The service is one that Mindgeek has seemingly been contemplating for some time. Nearly two years ago, officials quietly were talking about a similar service that used films and scenes from the company's many studios—as well as original content.
The model has shifted slightly, but there are many similarities in the two. Pornhub Premium will feature content from many of Mindgeek's holdings—including Brazzers, Digital Playground and Reality Kings. Mike Williams, a spokesman for Pornhub, says the studio has also struck licensing deals with several other non-Mindgeek studios.
"It is not an amalgamation of various Mindgeek studios holdings into one subscription service," he told CNBC.com.
Pornhub and Mindgeek aren't the first adult entertainment service to attempt to emulate the success of a mainstream streaming company. Last year, a service called SkweezMe launched a video-on-demand service that closely followed the iTunes model.
The big challenge for Mindgeek is persuading consumers to pay for something they're used to getting for free. Consumers can easily download pirated versions of films from BitTorrent sites or watch free clips on tubesites, but the question is: Will they be willing to pay a premium to avoid the pop-up and banner ads, which often infect a user's PC with malware?
