Pussy Riot are back with their most obvious song title to date: “Straight Outta Vagina.” The hip-hop-geared pop song, which features Desi Mo and Leikeli47, arrived today (Oct. 24) as part of the Adult Swim Singles Program. According to the press release, both the song and video see the political punks sing about “the power of p—-.”
While each lyric packs a mouthful of double entendres and quick-witted quips — the chorus repeats, “Don’t play stupid, don’t play dumb/ Vagina’s where you’re really from” — the visual accompaniment is equally striking. Directed by Phillip Lopez, the video was shot days ago in Los Angeles and centers on member Nadya Tolokno (Nadezhda Andreyevna Tolokonnikova), though it features a surplus of other compelling characters as well.
Taken as a whole, “Straight Outta Vagina” delivers the least punk-rock sound from Pussy Riot to date, and errs more mainstream, save for the blunt and overwhelming mentions of the titular sexual organ.
The press release concludes with the tease: “More coming soon…” For now, check out the video and lyrics below.

Pussy Riot has a new female empowerment message and they’re spreading the word with their new single “Straight Outta Vagina,” featuring Desi Mo and Leikeli47. The Russian punk-rock protest group shared the new music video for the song on Tuesday as part of the Adult Swim Singles Program.
Directed by Phillip Lopez, the clip starts with a young girl in a church who is given a piece of candy by singer Nadya Tolokonnikova, wearing the band’s signature ski mask. It then shows women in bathrooms, wearing price tags, cutting them off and then doing choreographed moves.
“Don’t play stupid/Don’t play dumb/Vagina’s where you’re really from,” sings Tolokonnikova as the women and young girl continue to dance while wearing blue masks. The song also features lyrics like “Vagina gonna win the race,” and “I wear my vag as a badge of honor.”
In a message from Pussy Riot, posted on the video’s description, the band wrote, “Women were slaves of the world for centuries. Women got their right to vote less than 100 years ago. Russia (1917), US (1919), Switzerland (1971). We’re still just about to build another roles, norms, ethics for vaginas owners.”
The punk rock group also took a stab at Donald Trump by adding, “And the owner of vaginas is not some narcissistic stupid orange ape who’d claim that he could easily grab women by their pussies. The owner of vagina is a woman. Who wears her vag as a badge of honor.”
“Straight Outta Vagina” is written and performed by David Andrew Sitek, Tolokonnikova, Desi Mo Bradley, Leikeli47, and Josh Werner and produced by Sitek. The video was filmed at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles.

Pussy Riot are back — and they’re “Straight Outta Vagina.”
The musicians/agitators — who became a cause celebre in 2012 after receiving a two-year sentence for protesting Russian president Vladimir Putin in a church — dropped their new video, “Straight Outta Vagina,” on Tuesday, and it’s a real toe-tapper. As well as a head-scratcher.
“Does your vagina have a brand? Let your vagina start a band,” the group declares on the track. “If your vagina lands in prison/Then the world is gonna listen.”
Then there’s the anthemic chorus, “Don’t play stupid, don’t play dumb/Vagina’s where you’re really from.” Hard to argue with that logic.
The video itself is, predictably, a spectacle, featuring men in business suits and high heels, and a chorus line of women stepping up to the urinals. And, for some reason, inflatable ducks. Lots of inflatable ducks.
While the song does not appear to explicitly comment on presidential aspirant Donald Trump, the description of the video does take a barely veiled swipe at the GOP nominee.
“[T]he owner of vaginas is not some narcissistic stupid orange ape who’d claim that he could easily grab women by their pussies,” the description reads. “The owner of vagina is a woman. Who wears her vag as a badge of honor.”
Yep — that would seem to be a reference to Trump’s now-infamous “Grab ‘em by the pussy” comment, which was recently leaked from a 2005 conversation with then-“Access Hollywood” personality Billy Bush.
