How far would you dare to go to win it all? Maverick Holms and Duke Warren share almost everything—a college soccer team, an apartment and the same extremely competitive nature. Thanks to that never-back-down spirit, they're about to share more than they bargained for. The game is gay chicken. The rule: get as close as possible without kissing, and the one that pulls away first is the loser. The problem: neither of them likes to lose. It isn't long before the game becomes an excuse to touch and kiss in every possible forbidden way. And after they pose for a gay website to earn extra money, things really heat up. Suddenly Duke is talking lifetime commitment, and Mav is backpedaling as hard as he can, not sure if he's ready to accept all his best friend is offering him. Or the truth about what he is.

***2.5 Stars*** What to say about this book? I asked for short, quick and hot and that's what I got. Sometimes I need to be careful what I wish for. I may have gotten all of those things, but what I did not get were believable characters, any substance of plot or realistic dialogue. Allow me to give you the "progression" of this book and Mav and Duke's relationship. Hey bro, let's play gay chicken! Hey man, let's play extreme gay chicken! Hey dude, let's play naked extreme gay chicken! And then BOOM

This may have been enjoyable if the characters weren't using the weirdest scenarios and rationalizations to experiment. They also zipped from one end of the spectrum to the other in a heartbeat. And the dialogue was awkward....almost how an older person would think someone in their early twenties would talk. Overall, this was a quick, steamy yet kinda awkward read. Lesson learned...be careful what you wish for.

This book was a great, quick, sexy read. My issues with with the very thin plot. To me, it was like an underdeveloped version of "Hot Head," taking place in college instead of a firehouse. It could have used another 50 or so pages of buildup and depth. I'd still read this again. What can I say, I'm a sucker for "gay for you" books with tall, hot guys!

This was really nice! It was a little different from what I expected, but overall I enjoyed it a lot.
It was a gay chicken porn fantasy that turned into something mushy and romantic. It was almost unbelievable really. But instead of getting annoyed, I didn't.
I liked most of the things with it. The MC's, the story. Mav and Duke are cute btw. The sex were hot enough. I liked it.
Mav & Duke I think this will do if you want a sweet (and a little spicy) short GFY read. Enjoy! :D

3.5 gay chicken stars Just go zen and let the urge to roll your eyes and smirk pass...deep breaths...in...out...in...out.... Now get your mind out of the gutter and fucking focus! Boy, that story is like a delicious piece of chocolate cake. You know you shouldn't have it, but you just can't resist its delicious sweetness. Duke and Mav, two straight macho college jocks, are captain and goalie in their college soccer team. Their competitive nature reaches new heights when Duke starts playing a silly drinking game he calls 'gay chicken', which consists of Duke pretending to kiss his best friend. The first one to give loses. Mac doesn't like losing, so the silly game leads to both guys French kissing pretty quickly - because you know, losing isn't an option. Just weird that Mac isn't repulsed by kissing his 'male' friend. Strange, right? But watching other nude guys in the gym showers isn't doing anyhting for him, so he can't be gay, right? Right?! In the tradition of the many Gay for You stories that we love so much (I admit, there's something about straight guys experimenting...), Mav and Duke are taking the gay chicken thing further...
“So you think you could do it?” he asked casually, giving Duke a challenging look. “Think you could stand to have your face that close to another guy’s cock without freaking out?” “I know I could.” Duke raised an eyebrow. “The question is, could you?” Mav leaned forward, looking his best friend in the eye. “I’m not afraid.”
and further......
Then he realized what he’d said and hastily rephrased. “Uh, I mean, I dare you to touch me.” “No problem.” Duke’s voice was low and sensual. Reaching up, he palmed Mav’s aching shaft carefully and stroked it from root to tip. “God!” Mav’s hips bucked forward involuntarily with the pleasure of his friend’s hand and he couldn’t quite suppress the groan that rose to his lips. “Feels good?” Duke asked softly, stroking him again. “You know it does,” Mav almost gasped.
AND FURTHER.....
“Yeah, Mav, I want you to come in my mouth.” Then he seemed to realize exactly what he’d said because his face got red and he added, “I mean, I’m gonna suck you so hard you have no choice but to come and then I’ll be the reigning supreme champion of ultimate gay chicken.”
LOL. The first half of the story is the insanely hot, highly erotic journey of both guys getting physical with each other. Then the story takes an unexpected turn with (view spoiler) [ one guy admitting to being gay all along and things turn into a drama fest. I wasn't too happy with the ensuing "You don't love me enough to be my out and proud boyfriend" while just a few pages before, they were actually straight jocks who lived off alcohol, testosterone and meaningless sex with blonde cheerleaders. (hide spoiler) ] Still, I liked these guys immensely and I was totally happy when they worked out their troubles. I'm not a fan of GFY as such, but I'm totally starting to understand the attraction ;-) 4 well-deserved stars!

Gay chicken? A four year, "super close" friendship in which one friend lies constantly about not only his attraction, but also his sexual orientation, and oh yeah, his entire fucking personality?
And could someone please explain to Evangeline Anderson that the whole point of using the number 8 in a word is so you don't have to use any more letters. It's Str8 Boys, dear.

Her characters are not only scorchers in the love scenes but their feelings for each other are lovingly crafted so that you feel involved in the relationship. I think that is what takes my breath away. The complete abandon of the love between her characters. Even as they try and sort the confusing feelings they still carry the emotion with such fragility. So hard to display between men. Evangeline Anderson manages to do that time and again. Just amazing!

4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. It's short, but the author did a fabulous job crafting the characters and making them 3-dimensional. Even Duke felt fully realized, and the entire book was in Mav's POV. Short, hot and with scorching sexual tension. Not huge on the angst, but just enough considering the characters and plot, and definitely enough to make me feel for both heroes. Plus, the 2 heroes are gorgeous!!! :D Definitely recommended if you are in the mood for a quick, hot read.

Ha! I really liked it! Another hot gay-for-you story that I could not put down. I thought the “gay chicken” game was a bit silly but it was so hot and great for increasing the sexual tension. Its pretty much all sex, but I still recommend it for when you are in the mood for something light and smexy and not entirely believable. Did I say this was hot?

Gay for you, friends to lovers .. Whatever! I started this thinking it would just be a bit of lightweight sexy fun and it sort of is but I didn't realise just how much I would end up loving it. Two jocks who through playing a game called Gay Chicken ( which is very sexaay by the way ) and posing for a porn site called Str8te Boys to get a bit extra cash, start to realise that maybe there's a bit more than bi Curiousity going on between them and one of them may not be the archetypal dumb jock he makes out to be. I can definitely see myself coming back for another read many times with this one, just because its got delicious sexual tension, two loveable Mc's, that great feel good factor and a happy * sigh * style ending. Oh and did I say it was sizzling hot? Capitol K for Keeper. Thanks Cagla for the reccomend.

Yet I really kinda liked it, nothing is better than a gay for you, or 'str8te' roommate friends getting down and dirty and being completely stupid. Its pretty simple to wrap this story up, roommate friends play gay chicken (if you know what the game chicken is, then gay chicken falls under the same rules; only its a lot more ridiculi). The gay chicken story escalates into hot loving, and feelings and boners start popping up everywhere. It was short story, but apart from the clichés, it deals with a strong topic. How far are you willing to go to fit in? Would hiding who you were, make you happy. Therefore, if you want a hot read, without the huge story, and hot muscle men feeling each other up, then this story is for you. MMmmmmmm muscle men feeling each other up, yep there goes my pants. Also, glad to see there is an Evangeline story, that doesn’t involve extreme circumstances for the lead males to have sex. It was getting quite tiresome.

And that just pisses me off, but what pisses me off even more is that I apparently two years ago I was both blind and stupid, because this is the kind of story I'd drop like a hot brick if I were to come across it now. It is positively, unquestionably a one-star story, with a side of fuck off.

A disappointing read. The first half of the story had 2 fumbling jocks fooling around based on dares and a game of “gay chicken”. Then halfway through, a switch is flipped and they are “lovers” and saying every overused cliched dirty talk phrase you’ve ever read in erotic fiction. I actually had to check to see if I was reading the same book. The story was rushed and uninspired.

This was more than I expected. I thought it would be a cheesy bit of PWP by the blurb and I was ready for that. What I wasn’t ready for was the damn emotions that came with this story. Maverick and Duke are best friends, teammates and roommates. They have it all while being successful soccer jocks at the University of South Florida and these boys love to play games with each other. Their levels of competition with who can win at the game of gay chicken is just one that they *ahem* get off on and it was adorable and pretty damn hot to read. I was unprepared for just how hot it would be and just when my jaw was on the floor and my tongue hanging out these two would turn me into a puddle with how damn sweet they were.
“Gay chicken,” Duke whispered, leaning in. The idea was for two guys to get as close to kissing as they could. The one to pull away first was the loser.
Oh boy. The story is told in Maverick/Mav’s POV and this boy struggles every step of the way. Even when he is winning the game or letting go he is fighting what he feels for Duke. Should he feel it? Is this just a game to both of them? Why do they play the game, sleep in the same bed, sit so close to each other, have their arms around each other…yeah. I think you need to ask yourself a few questions here boys. Mav and Duke are short on rent and when a friend lets them know how they can make some extra and quick cash modeling for a gay porn site called Str8te Boy, they decide to try it. As long as nothing really gay happens then they are okay with it all, right? I mean, it’s not like they haven’t kissed with the game before so why would this be any different? But of course it always is and when Mav starts to wonder why it’s no big deal to do this with Duke but he doesn’t want to do it with other guys…oh I adore the gay for you journey so much. So. Much.
Apparently seeing other naked guys in the shower didn’t do it for him, but the idea of getting physical with his best friend made him all kinds of horny. He had a feeling that they both wanted the same thing but neither one could admit it. Instead, they had to dare each other into it.
I thought it was adorable how the boys turned it into a game of "I dare you" to get what they wanted from each other though it did break my heart with the scene Duke overhears after he laid it all out there for Mav to take and it was sad when the bit of angst hit after that. I hurt for both Duke and Mav as they tried to work it out and if and where they would go from there. I was so happy with that end scene at the team party. It was great and I did a mini fist pump in the air with them as I read it. Str8te Boys was fun, sweet, super sexy and just a great time. Was it predictable? Sure, to a point. Did that stop me from enjoying it? Um, hello it’s gay for you with UST, so no. Never. Would I recommend it? That I would. It's perfect when you want a short, sexy, easy read to get the feels and get a little overheated with. 3.5 stars

Add the author, Evangeline Anderson and presto...I had to read it and it went str8 to the top of my TBR pile. (W00T an Evangeline Anderson that isn't from Ellora's Cave - more win!) This was a fast paced read. This is a GFY story with a fun premise that I really enjoyed. It was plausible (if GFY is ever plausible) and interesting from the first page. Mav had a hard time finally understanding what his urges and fantasies were telling him after his years of rooming with his best friend and teammate. I found his character more interesting then Duke. The POV comes from Mav so we get way more of his angst and concern over his behavior and burgeoning feelings. This book would have benefited from having Dukes POV as well, but I know many people don’t like changing POV so I may be in a minority here. I appreciated that Duke’s character was less opposed to the match, but his hurt and anger over the way Mav reacted to this new blooming situation seemed a bit unrealistic. Mav's reaction was not abnormal and should have been expected. It cut off too soon though. I would have liked to have seen the aftermath from friends and family and how they weathered that storm in more detail. (nit picky for the title - it should just be str8. adding the "te" is redundant)

Great start Loved the beginning of this short story. After reading the sample, I decided to purchase the whole thing. Unfortunately, the promising, snappy, and authentic sounding dialogue devolved into two touchy-feely, bare-my-soul, these guys-wouldn't-be-saying-this dialogue. Perhaps a longer length novel would have allowed for more realistic character development and situations. In all, there were a few, hot tension-filled scenes which made this quick read fun. This was my first by the author, but I'm tempted to check out other titles because this story held promise. Re-read: June 23, 2017. Raised one Star! Wow, what a different impression I got of this short read the second time around. I liked it all. Loved the gay chicken play. And this time around it didn't feel too sappy at all. Super fun read!

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I really liked it and holy shit was it hot, hot, HOT! Even if it was all set up kind of weird it still smoldered! I was very surprised as to the why of the games being played, honestly, I think I thought it was Mav and not Duke at first. I don’t know, maybe because we were in Mav’s head but I was surprised by the depth of why the game was being played. I really didn't expect that but welcomed it. This was kind of similar to Hot Head but I liked this better

3+/3.5 stars. Smokin' hot on the sexytimes, but some stuff just didn't ring true for me, even when I took into consideration the fact that we were in the fantastical world of romantic/erotic fiction. I was pleased that Duke (non-POV main character) got his HEA, but I was a little skeptical that it was Mav's HEA, as well (POV main character). The writing was engaging, though, and I wouldn't hesitate to try more of Evangeline Anderson's work in the future.

My first full-length m/m novella, and I was actually surprised how much fun it was. There is definitely something exciting about two sexy guys having the hots for each other. Erotic but at the same time, sweetly romantic, I enjoyed my first foray in the m/m genre. Special thanks to Nichole for sharing this with me.

Meh, nothing new here. Two college guys experimenting under the disguise of the "gay chicken" game until they can admit their feelings for one another. A light read. Duke was cute but not much really going on in this one.

This is a book where the readers have to suspend disbelief in a lot of areas to get sucked into the story. This is a book where the readers have to suspend disbelief in a lot of areas to get sucked into the story. No doubt some will enjoy the theme and two hot, muscular men having sweaty sex but the underlying theme that the gay lifestyle is derogatory still prevails. The premise itself is frankly unbelievable, but getting beyond that and the insulting, stereotypical commentary the story is about a man coming to terms with his sexuality. However, he’s not really gay, he’s simply gay for his best friend. There’s a very thin line and really this no doubt works best as a story read for its erotica than for the content itself. Fans of the author will devour this story and love it intensely. The premise is that best friends Mav and Duke are fellow athletes on a star soccer team and have lived together for four years. In that time, they’ve become so comfortable around each other they frequently touch, cuddle, and even sleep in the same bed. No one questions their orientation however since they are both known to have sex with various women so their secret is safe – even from each other. Duke, secretly gay and in love with Mav, invents a game of “gay chicken” where he pushes Mav’s boundaries to get him to admit he wants to have sex with Duke. The game hinges on their competitiveness and comfort with each other while giving a reason to explain and ignore their actions. These reasons are pretty thin and don’t get much more in depth throughout the story. Instead the two men dare each other to do more and more intimate acts, such as rubbing, blowjobs, kissing, and eventually sex. Since the story is told from Mav’s perspective, he consistently ignores the deeper meanings behind the actions, unwilling to accept or believe he may be gay. He never really accepts that sexual orientation either; instead willing to accept what Duke wants him to in order to keep his best friend and lover close to him. The implication that Mav is not gay nor would ever be comfortable in a traditional gay lifestyle is very clear throughout the book, his love and desire for Duke notwithstanding. Duke’s motivations are kept a mystery and only explained through a third party who admits that Duke “acted straight” for years due to his secret love for Mav. The story is decent enough and the sex pretty hot but I had a lot of problems with the insulting and derogatory dialogue and characters. The few openly gay characters are all depicted as flamingly gay and several comments I found uncomfortable. Such as the conversation between Mav, Duke, and the openly gay Evan about posing for the Str8te Boys website. “Str8te Boys? Why the hell would anybody want to see two straight guys, uh, getting it on?” Duke demanded. Ethan shrugged. “For the same reason you breeders like to look at lipstick lesbians having gay sex. I know you wouldn’t want to watch two diesel dykes rug munching each other, would you?” Mav shivered. “Uh, that’d be a no.” “There you go, then,” Ethan said. “You want to see pretty girls getting together instead. The same way some people—and not all of them are gay men, mind you, a lot of them are kinky little straight girls—like to see straight boys together.” He sighed. “And besides, there’s just something so hot about the idea of two pretty straight boys having their first time...touching each other...feeling their way...not really sure what they’re doing but willing to try just about anything...” Perhaps it’s a preference and other readers won’t be bothered by the comments. The story is only 60 pages long and filled with several sex scenes as well as most every other scene revolves around unfulfilled tension and desire. I didn’t hate it but Mav never felt as though he accepted his feelings for Duke and really was confident and comfortable expressing those desires. Instead the resolution felt forced and awkward, especially with the final scene among the team who barely blink at the changed status of their captains. For a fantasy piece, this ranks high if you enjoy the classic “gay for you” trope and the man in question never really comes around to accepting his sexuality. If you’re not bothered by some insulting comments, then pick this up for entertainment.

"No." Evan shook his head. "His feelings for you are one thing Duke has never been confused about. Don't you know he's been in love with you for the last four years, Mav?"
I've been really curious about this book and had it on my TBR list for a while, but it wasn't until I read Mariya's review that I was coerced into buying the book... and unholy hell what a read!! I don't read many M/M Romance books, but it's not because I don't like, oh believe me, I do! I just haven't found the right book,

I've been really curious about this book and had it on my TBR list for a while, but it wasn't until I read Mariya's review that I was coerced into buying the book... and unholy hell what a read!! I don't read many M/M Romance books, but it's not because I don't like, oh believe me, I do! I just haven't found the right book, series, or author to drag me (willingly of course ;) into the M/M world. But I think Evangeline just did that for me. Plot wise, Str8te Boys isn't much of a read, but Maverick and Duke were so entertaining I honestly could care less what they did outside that apartment. I'm double daring these hotties to keep rubbing their big, muscular bodies and c***s to one another while making out with lust-filled hunger until they come on each other! Unholy hell... where are my ice buckets ?!!!
"Well..." Duke pulled back at last, breaking the kiss and looking at Mav in the eye. "Looks like I lost the dare, Mav. I guess you're gonna have to fuck me."
I thought the whole concept for "gay chicken" was ridiculous, especially considering that no straight man in his right mind would let another man touch his junk. But here's where thngs get interesting, because Duke and Mav have taken their "game" to extreme possibilities. I love that these guys are jocks. They've been playing in the same soccer team for the past four years (plus in my book, I love soccer players ;)), and they've been roomies and bff's since their freshmen year of college. Str8te Boys is told from Maverick's POV, and it's interesting because as "uncomfortable" as he gets when Dukes talks guy on guy action, he still allows him to get close. To play with his cock, to kiss, to lick... and so many other sinfully delicious things. Duke is suppose to be straight as well, according to Mav, but it didn't take long for me to begin to question these guys' sexual orientation, and then things really take off when Duke and Mav go to a photo shoot together. Basically a porn site for gay men with straight looking ones. The more Duke and Mav's relationship progresses, the more Mav begins to question his nature. Everything seems perfect for the two until a late night trip to the drugstore ends with Duke's heart being broken. Now, Mav must come to terms with who he truly is, or risk losing not only his best friend, but his heart as well. Like I said, the idea of "Gay Chicken" for me was ridiculous, but so very clever at the same time. Both Mav and Duke were great characters. I would have loved seeing some soccer action, and them interacting outside of each other. But the scenes were so delicious between these two I'll happily shut up as long as I get front row seats and touch action! *Rawr* ;) I'll be sticking to Evangeline Anderson for more sinfulness from now on.

The lasting impression I have, after reading this book, is of young and sexy, of men that could be on a glossy magazine. It's an erotic dream and the author well know this, since she herself wrote that her characters can be an erotic imagery of both gay guys or straight girls. It's an erotic dream and the author well know this, since she herself wrote that her characters can be an erotic imagery of both gay guys or straight girls. For gay since it shows two "apparently" straight boys that are hot for each other... it gives hope, isn't it? If the object of your desire is a straight man, reading about two straight men who realize that they can be attracted by another man let the gay guy believe that it can happen also to him, to find a straight man that can be "turned". And instead if you are a girl, it's sexier to read about two real "men" getting busy together; as the author wrote, the male fantasy about two women in bed is never played by lesbian, but always by the male idea of a beautiful woman. Evangeline Anderson also plays along the "gay for you" theme that already explored in "The Assignment": Maverick and Duke are two college students and jocks. They met as freshmen in the same soccer team and they went to live together as roommate. They are real buddy friends, and Mav learned from Duke to be more open and friendly: the son of divorced parents, Duke replaced his lost family with a lot of friends, of every shades, straights, gays and in between. Mav, coming from a conservative family, has never thought to be possible to be like that and he is fascinated by his roommate; from looking to him in a perplexed way, after four years Mav actually respects his friend, and maybe he also envies him. Duke is also a very touchy feeling guy, one who seems unable to don't couple his words with a hug, a massage or some other touch. Being him like that with everyone, Mav got used to it, and he has no trouble at all if not that lately he is starting to respond. He is starting to wonder how it would be to do something more, to go a step further. They start to play gay chicken, getting always more intimate and daring to other to give on first. At first I had the idea that the "gay for you" character was Duke, it seemed to me that it was Mav that started to question their friendship and to wonder. But then I realized that there was something strange, Duke was always to eager to start the dare. I realized that he had planned a slow seduction of his best friend, and Mav was trapped, and he didn't understand when it happened. It would have been a perfect plan if Duke wasn't so eager and he didn't rush exactly when he was near the goal... not a right move for a skilled sportsman. Luckily for Duke, this is the romance, and the author doesn't ruin the mood; usually the "gay for you" themed novels have a heavy mood, but not this one, it always remains light and sexy. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002DOSBOS/?...
