I'm a fan of the franchise. Terry O'Quinn's performance is riveting. Nobody is more convincing as the psychopathic stepfather than O'Quinn. Fortunately, the movie is quite good, thanks to a fairly good story and of course the acting! Recommended!

This film starts with the villain safely secured in a mental hospital. Well, as it turns out, not so safely: he manages to escape. He then returns to his normal activities which, of course, involve finding a new family and, when it fails to satisfy him any longer, kill them. Of course the woman and, more to the point, the child (age and gender) are different. Indeed, in a sense, it is the child in these films that is the key character, providing a novel experience each time. If you liked the first, you should find this one enjoyable as well.

The first one was good because there was a realism to it which made the situation believable. The sequel however is so implausible that it comes off as absurd. After the "Stepfather" has done this twice already, killing one family and attempting to kill another, plus escaping a loony bin after murdering 2 workers there, there would be much more awareness in the general population of this guy. He would be as famous as Bundy or Manson. So when this psycho moved into his next target neighborhood, red flags would've gone up with a lot of the people. Also his face would be plastered all over TV and newspapers, not to mention a massive manhunt for him. But most astounding is that he doesn't even bother disguising himself and still goes about his new life with no one recognizing him. It's that ridiculous! By the time we reach the inevitable climax (a big wedding with absolutely no friends or relatives of the bride anywhere while she's getting into her wedding dress in back of the church) we don't even care what happens because it's all so absurd and unrealistic. I'm still giving it 2 stars though for Terry O'Quinn's performance, but this is a much lesser effort than the original.

If you haven't seen the original Stepfather movie, it's worth watching. Stepfather 2, however, is the superior film in my opinion. Terry O'Quinn is back as the villainous stepfather in question... and this time he's twice as crazy! The stepfather seems to be having more fun this time around, cracking more jokes and killing more people. The violence was intensified from the previous installment, but it's still below the levels of a Friday the 13th film or Nightmare on Elm Street. Meg Foster does a good job representing the stepfather's love interest, but the secondary character that really shines here is played by Caroline Williams. Caroline plays a nosy mailman who discovers the stepfather's heinous nature and tries to expose him... with unfortunate results. Will the evil stepfather finally acquire a loving family of his own? Spoiler alert: NO! But that's the point! Just watch his twisted attempts at love unravel (and enjoy)!

I saw this as a kid and I won't lie, I geeked out a few hours ago when I realized it was streaming online. I started with The Stepfather and immediately moved into this one. As many have said, the acting is pretty much what you would expect for a campy horror movie. I can't even say it was scary, really. It was when I was a kid. Now all I can think at the end of this meh movie is that I want the same healthcare this guy gets because he's survived (at the very least) a stab wound to the heart and a gunshot wound to the chest. Since there's a third installment, I think it's safe to say he survives the injuries inflicted on him in this one. For nostalgic reasons, and those reasons alone, I can't hate this movie. But I'm not happy about the fact that I'll be whistling Camptown Races for the next week...

Campy horror movie that is fun and provides some good laughs. Terry O'Quinn is so convincing at being a super-dad which makes it even better. I watched stepfather and this sequel the last 2 days, and its crazy that I've never heard of these movies before. I only knew Terry O'Quinn as John Locke from Lost lol!

A much better sequel than it's given credit for. I'll put it this way... if you enjoyed the original Stepfather because of Terry O'Quinn than you'll enjoy this as well.

Let me start by saying I wish they'd release the first Stepfather on DVD like they did in Germany. They even put it out as an anamorphic widescreen! Oh well . . . looks like we have some catching up to do. Now, you have to suspend your disbelief for certain parts of the movie. I won't tell you because I'm not a spoiler. Suffice to say that this is okay in comparison to the first. Some may even like it more than the first but that's just plain sacrilege. I will say that he does fly off the handle they way we've all grown to love and accept. He's so toasted as a father it's too funny. Anyway, check it out.
