Victim speaks out to encourage more children to seek help and to support NSPCC's #LightupforChristmas campaign
A CHILD rape victim has today opened up about the horrendous abuse she suffered at the hands of her own father.
The brave woman - who we will call Robyn - was just six years old when her torment began.
Only now, as an adult, is she breaking her silence on the extent of her trauma in a bid to encourage more young people to seek help.
Her harrowing account comes as the NSPCC launches its #LightupforChristmas campaign, backed by The Daily Mirror , which aims to help Childline reach the young people who are hanging up or logging off before they can speak to them.
The problems began for Robyn after she asked to stay with her dad at the weekends following her parents’ divorce.
But instead of the loving home she hoped for, she walked into years of horrific abuse, manipulation, and self-blame.
“Daniel (my dad) started to rape me during the visits to his house,” she told The Hull Daily Mail .
“I remember going to sleep on the sofa and then waking up naked with him on top of me. He was raping me and I cried and he told me off for crying.”

Daniel promised Robyn the abuse would reunite her parents, and later threatened her social services would take her from her mum if she didn’t let him rape her.
She said: “What seven-year-old child doesn’t want their parents to get back together?
“I began wetting the bed but no-one suspected anything.
“The rape and abuse continued until one day when I ran away from his house.
“It was early morning and I was only seven and trying to navigate my way miles and miles back to my mum’s house.
“By the time I did arrive back home, I was in serious trouble for running away but I couldn’t bring myself to tell mum about Daniel.”
As the years went by, Robyn saw less of Daniel – but she blamed herself for the abuse and at 17, she took her first overdose.
“I blamed myself for what happened,” she said. “I thought, ‘Why on earth did I let him do that to me?’
“I started to take overdoses and took six in total. I felt no-one cared.”
“If it wasn’t for that long chat with Childline, I wouldn’t be here today,” said Robyn.
“The counsellor told me about a sexual abuse support centre that could help.
But Robyn only reported the abuse when she found out Daniel had re-married and had more children.
Daniel killed himself before the court date, but Robyn approached the Criminal Compensation Board, asking for 1p and recognition of what he had done.
She said: “When they ruled in my favour I was ecstatic as it meant that he would have been jailed.
"I was awarded £10,000 but I gave the money away as it made me unhappy to have any link to him.”
Robyn, who is now happily married, said no one should suffer in silence.
“If anyone is going through what I went through, I would tell them not to be ashamed of what happened,” she said.
“Contact Childline or tell a trusted adult.”

The first and very solid fact is that no "love" can exist and grow between a girl and her father. Real dad or step dad, that man is your mother's husband and as such you remain to be his daughter. Indeed he can like you and even love you very much but not with the kind of love that would allow you to get intimate with him. You are therefore not in love with him rather you are only infatuated. It is common for girls to be infatuated with their fathers but this only lasts a short while then they grow out of it. Make no mistake about this; there can never be any true love between a girl and her father. But of course there can be many other kinds of love, just not the kind you are implying. He did this out of lust and you participated in it out of ignorance. If anything, it is in order to say that he took advantage of his daughter.
You both need to find a way of dealing with this but you cannot do this if you don't accept that what you did was unacceptable. Often, confession is the best approach to closure. However, in your situation, this may not be the best. There is no way you can continue living under the same roof with those two. Yes, it is about time you moved out and let them be as you try and find your way around this life. Living in that house will only lead you back to the same situation and the consequences are unimaginable. Have you thought about what could happen if you conceived a child with him? Have you even remotely imagined what would happen if she got wind of this matter or if she caught you in the act?
Please know that nothing good can come out of this and this is one of those situations you really need to quit while you are ahead. Talk to them about getting you an apartment so they can enjoy their marriage as you find your way through life. Yes, she may favour your sister over you but this should not be an excuse to mess her marriage. That man is not straight and it seems he can even do this with his own daughter. Like you put it, it is difficult because you see him every day of your life. Get a way out of that house and with time all this will end.
