In 1981, she produced and directed a documentary profiling a variety of women from many walks of life, entitled The American Heroine (1979). Her film crew was comprised largely of film students from the University of Texas at Arlington. They had first worked with Stella in 1979 when she traveled to Texas to act for them, free of charge, in a short class film they were making, entitled "Lewis", directed by film student Tim Hatcher .


Did not want to appear in the film Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962) and was nearly suspended by Paramount. Her protests hurt her relationship with the studio. She has stated several times that she refuses to watch this film.


Has appeared with her son Andrew Stevens in four films: Las Vegas Lady (1975), Down the Drain (1990), The Terror Within II (1991) and Illicit Dreams (1994).


She was considered for the role of the mythic being Ardra in the fourth season Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Star Trek: The Next Generation: Devil's Due (1991), which went to Marta DuBois .


In 2005, she was awarded the Reel Cowboys Silver Spur Award for her notable contribution to the Western genre.


Thomas Burnett Swann dedicated two of his novels to her: "Lady of the Bees" (1976) and "Will-o-the Wisp" (1976).


Her parents moved to Memphis, TN, when she was four. She married aspiring electrician Noble Stephens when she was only fifteen and gave birth to son Andrew a year later. After graduating from high school, she attended Memphis State College and soon divorced her husband of only two years.


In early 2015, she and partner Bob Kulick sold her longtime home in Beverly Hills. She is now in a long-term Alzheimer's care facility in Los Angeles where Kulick visited her until his death from heart disease on May 28th, 2020.


Son Andrew mostly grew up living with his mother in Beverly Hills but after the Manson murders, decided to live in Memphis with his grandparents where he went to high school and college.


Turned down the role of Hot Lips on the M*A*S*H* television series to focus on her film career. She has said she has since regretted the decision.


Strange as it sounds, Stella was married at 16, became a mother after 6 months of marriage, and a divorcee at 17.


She signed her first contract in 1959 at age 20 with 20th Century Fox. She was dropped after six months and the same year signed with Paramount to a seven year contract. After roles previously promised to her (Harlow, The Carpetbaggers, Sylvia) were given to fellow studio star Carroll Baker, she requested an early release and moved to Columbia Pictures for the remainder of the 1960s.


Stella Stevens is the only leading lady to have starred with both Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis in films after their professional breakup.


I did the best I could with the tools I had and the opportunities given me. My life was screwed up early by getting pregnant at 15 and married, then a baby at 16, then divorced at 17. But in spite of that start, I've done all right.


It's been my heart's desire to direct since I started doing movies. I directed two films in the '70s and '80s. One was a feature-length documentary. But I've still not made my debut with a big film. I'm working on doing that now... So why has it taken me so long? Because it was hard as a "sexpot", as I was labeled in the '60s and '70s, to have people take me seriously as a producer or director. They would rather see me without my clothes on.

A native of Yazoo City, Mississippi. While attending Memphis State College, Stella became interested in acting and modeling. Her film debut was a bit part in Say One for Me (1959), but her appearance in Li'l Abner (1959) as Appassionata Von Climax is the one that got her noticed. Then her centerfold spread in Playboy was one of the most popular issues. She co-starred with some of the biggest names in movies such as Bobby Darin in Too Late Blues (1961); Elvis Presley in Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962); Glenn Ford in The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1963); Jerry Lewis in The Nutty Professor (1963); and Dean Martin in The Silencers (1966). She appeared on the television series Surfside 6 (1960); Ben Casey (1961) and the soap opera General Hospital (1963). By the late 1960s, her career had leveled off and she was appearing in roles based on her looks. One of her best performances at that time was in the movie The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970), where she played Hildy, and showed that her talent was more than physical. But then she appeared in a poor offering like Slaughter (1972). In the 1970s and 1980s, Stella became a fixture in movies made for television and appeared in a number of television series. Her big screen career may have slowed during that time, but she has appeared in a number of movies in every decade since she debuted.

Would it be funny, do you think, to wear a pair of trousers with the cockney rhyming words "Bottle & Glass" cut out across the bottom to expose your derrière ? Could you see yourself wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with the word "Bristols" and cut so short that it reveals your breasts? How about a T-shirt dress that says "Slippery When Wet"?
Stella McCartney thinks it is funny. That's fine. But Stella McCartney also thinks it is fashion, which it is not. Lined up along the mirrored bronze set, more reminiscent of a lap-dancing venue, were the usual suspects. Sir Paul McCartney and Heather Mills rolled up, as did Jude Law, Sadie Frost, Dennis Hopper, Chrissie Hynde, Jay Jopling, Sam Taylor-Wood and Gary Hume. However, while the audience may have rocked, the clothes certainly did not.
This was supposed to be Stella McCartney's big moment; the Paris debut of her own-name house, funded by the Gucci Group which bought her name for an undisclosed sum – said to be worth millions – earlier this year.
So where were all the signature pieces on which she made her name at the house of Chlöe? The clever mixture of girlish vintage clothes and body-conscious tailoring that made her a hit with the twentysomething crowd had all but disappeared. In their place were some of the most shockingly tasteless ensembles yet seen on a Paris catwalk: electric blue lace body stockings, yellow lace swimming costumes, and knickers screaming the word "Wet".
The collection, no doubt intended to appeal to pop divas, since almost every model was armed with a huge plastic guitar case, is more likely to go down a storm with porn queens. It is doubtful whether even porn star, or anyone else for that matter, would want to wear a pair of neon-yellow satin trousers shaped like a nappy – surely the ultimate passion-killer.
After the slouching tunics printed with monsters, a couple of tacky black lace body stockings and sequinned tunics and leggings, came the final outfit: a cream satin bridal trenchcoat baring the words "Trouble and Strife".
Perhaps a more fitting message for the outfit and the whole fashion collection would have been: "Pony and Trap".
