This novel was good to read. I read Ms. Eckhart’s 5-chapter sneak peak of the novel & just had to buy it! The thing is, I haven’t yet read all the novels in the series, & those I did read, I read out of order. However, I feel it’s not necessary to have read the other Friessen Family novels before reading SAFMD. I thought Andy & Laura Friessen were relics of the 19th Century! They made Sara come home at 10 pm on a weekend night! They watched her every move like she was 12 years old. They treated her as if she hadn’t reached the age of majority. I just didn’t get it! And Sara put up with it! Why didn’t she go to a university far from her parent’s home so she could experience freedom? Why didn’t she move out & rent her own apartment? Her parents were very loving toward Sara. They were kind & caring. This is demonstrated when they help Devon at the end of the novel. But they were so overprotective! I recommend this novel to those readers who enjoy family sagas. It’s definitely worth the read. I’ve read other novels by Ms. Eckhard & liked them all. Her writing style pulls the reader into the plot & the characters’ minds.
Andy and Laura are one of my favorite Friessen couples, and their daughter, Sara, is an awesome character, strong, direct, and smart. She is going to college and not happy with Andy’s hovering. His protectiveness is understandable, though The suspense kicks in right away, when Sara is attacked! Dealing with many human issues, the author takes on racism and a look at perceptions in general. This is a quick, not-put-down-able read that has surprises and a feel-good vibe! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I also bought the book for my e library.
I liked almost every aspect of this story. I loved Sara’s spunkiest. You could easily be steamrolled in that family. Laura certainly is a good balance to Andy and his sexist attitude. He redeemed himself in the end which I did like.
Warning Rape trigger. Lorhainne Eckhart is a must buy, must read author. Stand-alone that is easy to follow and difficult to put down. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama. Compelling storyline of positive family dynamics. Realistic procedures, actions and reactions. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Thought-provoking dialogue. I will re-read this story and always look forward to, pre-order when possible, new works by this author.
As with all her previous books that I have read, Ms. Eckhart has a way of grabbing your attention immediately with her books. She makes you feel like you are there along with each character. She keeps you in suspense until the end about what Devon was doing on campus the night he saved Sara. If you haven't read 'The Homecoming', you need to read it before reading this in order to know what made Andy so over protective.
Love the Friessen Legacy books. Have read all of them. The family is real and has real problems. Was glad to see Stay Away From My Daughter hit head on real topics of today. Sara is a lot like Andy and Laura she calls her Dad out just the way she sees it. Great book of the time and topics we all could face. The Friessen’s family comes alive in Lorraine Eckhart’s books with heart, family, love, trust.
This book was awesome I was totally surprised about the book as a whole ,I've never read any of your books that have African Americans portray in any way.Sara does not seem to see color like her dad and Devon's brother the ending sure surprised me .
This whole series is filled with amazing stories of family struggles. This book had great insight into the mind of college aged kids and was so true to life. Very enjoyable and a great addition to a series I can't get enough of.

Another great book about the family and what a surprise ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this as you know the family when you read the whole set as I have done. Cannot wait for the next one.
