I liked the "digitized-animated" movie versions of the book much better than the one's portrayed with by real actors! However, with so many things the book was simply much better as goes into much greater depth on selection, training, and why young people volunteer in the supposed "worst" and most harsh branch of the Earth's "Federation" Armed Services- the elite "Mobile Infantry" realizing they might simply not make it through, the beyond rigorous training nor survive their mandated stint of duty un-harmed to obtain the status of "citizen," which can only be obtained with a set period of service to the Federation! In an ironic twist of fate, the characters in the book, once enlisted and through with training, meet their old high-school teacher- whom taught them about the Federation, meaning of citizenship, etc..... as he has been recalled to active service in a "genocidal" war against the human race and the young characters are astonished to learn, their teacher was a very highly decorated officer of the Mobile Infantry, as he never let on in High School he was! Many whom served US Armed Services eons ago, may recall that this this book was required reading for young Junior Officers, whom often had to read and then write a report on their thought's on the book! Some I believe, thought meaning of book, and military service- not just the Infantry, was akin to Ernie Pyle's, a World War II reporter, "The G...d-D..mned Infantry, as they like to call themselves: I love the infantry because they are the underdogs. They are the mud-rain-frost-and-wind boys. They have no comforts, and they even learn to live without the necessities. And in the end they are the guys that wars can’t be won without." Meaning, that not only Infantry Training and Service needed to be tough and realistic, but the same "mentality" applied to all training, no matter weather pilot, communications, medical, etc... and all knew basic "infantry" skills to simply survive if situation presented itself or was in fact need for an operation- as in movie the female pilot commander, the pilot having to defend herself when boarding her hijacked ship and knowing that even though outranked members Mobile Infantry- her main function was to support them and get them to target areas/regions quickly, and intact to fight if possible! This movie is a great depiction, although in part fantasy, of what a front line combat soldier must know to survive- as well as the supporting roles of others within the Armed Services and what they should ideally know as well! Before the US Army, sub-grouped in direct line sub-fields and Officers, NCO's had to say say Rangers and/or Special Forces, they could switch back and forth from said elite branches- and the intent behind it was to teach other's - on the job- so to speak, some of their "elite" skills and mindset! The same, was the intent behind Ranger School- and other such schools, even with a 50 (+/-) percent wash-out rate, things were embedded so deeply in students minds- even those not making it, such as the Ranger Creed, individual, and squad level skills, they too learned something of importance to pass on! With, the never ending War on Terror, their are plenty of, as in previous US Conflicts, numerous US combat vets, that learned their trade the hard way without such things as coveted Ranger Tab, that they to could, and were expected to pass along. The school, service, etc.... is not so important as the "mental" aspect- mindset- and real world utilization of these skills/mindset that experienced Combat Veterans can pass along or set the tone with, and save lives as well as clearing the path to "total-victory!"

Starship Troopers Invasion does not explore the themes of Robert Heinlein's novel, but is a solid action film that does a little more justice to the novel by having the powered armor. There's plenty of fanservice, but its not out of character for two out of three characters. That said, character development is light (though the sniper girl, Trig, is well written) and you should at least watch the 1997 live action film before watching this to get a sense of who Johnny Rico and Carmen Ibanez are.

First of all, don't expect a lot from this movie. I didn't and that's how I was able to enjoy it-knowing that it would probably suck. This movie is animated and I think it is the same team that did APPLESEED alpha which is a really great remake of the beginnings of the Appleseed series. I digress. This movie is cool to watch with the action animations. They do a good enough job with showing cool high tech gear, cool sound effects and scenery. The Bad: This movie is corny. They interactions and mood of the character relations are cringe worthy. You can see they're trying to recreat old 80s or 90s action movies with the script and it's even worse that the voice acting sucks. With that said, don't expect a lot in the story department. I could have written it for them and I'm not a writer. There is a huge contrast with video game cut scenes and trying to recreate human relations through CGI people. It just doesn't work. The next criticism involves SPOILERS so if you haven't watched it yet, do not continue reading. SPOILER - This movie disappointed me when they try to make you care about these new characters in the Starship Trooper world and they kill them off. They also kill them off in stupid ways. I think part of this flaw is due to the fact these aren't actual actors dying on screen. It's just computer graphics. Some of the ways they die are cool, but there is no heightened sense of danger you feel, but rather the scene spells out who's right about to die how the action scenes are put together. Lastly, I hate the fact that they show us that three of the original characters are still present in this movie. What is largely disappointing is they're clearly not really the lead roles in this version of Starship Troopers. The lead role is the bad ass leader they have to rescue known as "Hero". They kill this guy off in the most corny way. After they kill off the new lead character they try to feed us the fact the original characters are the leads in the story. Why????. I just don't feel like it was written well. They could have kept the original characters a prominent role in the story without killing off the new character. We don't need to see Johnny Rico fighting like a badass anymore. He stole Hero's limelight! I'm not really invested in the Starship Universe. I kind of disregarded these movies after the first one. I watched this version because I love Shirow Masamune titles and it seems to be the same CGI guys who did Appleseed. Last SPOILER - If you watched this or Appleseed alpha, look at "Hero" and "Olson" from those movies! I was laughing about it the entire time!!!

Some decent action but an otherwise disappointing experience.

Starship Troopers: Invasion is the fourth movie in the Trooper franchise and the first to be animated just using CGI. I'm a huge fan of the first film and have been nothing but disappointed since and sadly Invasion just continues that trend. First and formost are the strange changes they made, Carman, Rico and Carl all make appearances but none of them are anything like they should be in either appearance (Carl now has black hair...) or personalities with once again Carl having the biggest change having been made into a complete tool. The troopers armour has also been completely overhauled so they look more like mechsuits which took away quite a lot of the iconic Trooper image which also bothered me a lot, it's either based on the Roughneck TV show armour or as Invasion was made by a Japanese animation studio Stage 6 could reflect that. The actual story is passable but the way it gets there has quite a few plot holes, bad dialogue and has quite a lot of cringeworthy moments. I mean at one point one of the Troopers takes on a bug using martial arts, it was just painful to watch. This is also the type of film where all three of the main female protagonists were naked within 30 minutes for almost no reason, ridiculous. This isn't a deep movie either, none of the tongue and cheek satire is there, just all out action and explosions. Some of it is rather exciting to watch though with bullets, bugs, gore, spaceships and explosions all around. Visually Invasion is a mixed bag. The mechanical side of things it's spot on, the ships, guns and suits all look great. The characters though are another matter, lip syncing is way off as it was obviously made to a Japanese dub and never reanimated for an English voice over. The whole film also has a grainy effect and the colours seem really muted for a lot of it but overall the graphics are of very good quality. The music has some nice tracks that go with the over the top action, some of which are remixed versions from the original Starship Troopers soundtrack. The voice acting in English however is another matter, feels almost like a dubbed Bruce Lee movie from the 70's. Overall as a one off watch Invasion was fairly mindless entertainment but it doesn't really add anything to the Starship Trooper universe and they made some bizarre choices I couldn't get over. If you can put that aside, deal with the awkward moments and want some fodder for the brain then give it a go. If not rewatch the original Starship Troopers, even after 16 years it's a brilliant film. + Visuals are decent. + Action is good. - Trooper armour and Carl Jenkins are completely wrong. - Lip Synching is way out. - Sub Par voice acting. - Cringeworty in places.

This is great - well it's rubbish really - but it's that great 'engage brain neutral, grab crisp bag, sit back and relax, don't take it seriously, strewth, this is fun' type of rubbish. I loved the original Starship Troopers, (cringed my way through the next two that seemed to completely miss the point that the original was a satire of right wing extremism) and loved this one. The CGI is excellent, the story works well and frankly the acting is better than the two human led sequels. This feels like the logical sequel to the original film. Some nudety and lots of violence so probobly safest to watch it before you let your kids see it. Would you like to know more?

Animated action with nudity and colourful language.

I thought this movie was pretty cool but it has a theme of violence. Although it is completely computer-generated there is male and female nudity within. The language is rough and there is plenty of action throughout. This movie is about fighting off an invasion of alien bugs and it is set in a fictional future. It follows on from the second movie in the franchise and could be seen in conjunction with the animated shows. I would recommend this video to fifteen to eighteen year-olds and over. The main menu is easy to use and there are special features.

I give it 5 out of 10 ..............

Worth a watch .... Cgi was ok not really up to avatar level. Casper looked roughly like himself but the other two ........ ....?.? ....... They nicked a few bits from the aliens movie ....... But then aliens ripped quite a bit from the original books! I'm a big fan of the first film and they haven't got close yet , but for the price it's an ok. Go in not expecting too much and you will probably enjoy. My copy will do the rounds of my brothers and pub buddies. Do you want to know more ?

In the distant future, the Earth is at war with a race of giant alien insects. Little is known about the Bugs except that they are intent on the eradication of all human life. But there was a time before the war... A Mobile Infantry travels to distant alien planets to take the war to the Bugs. They are a ruthless enemy with only one mission: Survival of their species no matter what the cost...
The troopers of two starships have joined forces to terminate a massive bug attack at a federation outpost. Before the mission can be completed and the survivors evacuated, one ship abruptly departs and goes inexplicably dark. The remaining battle-hardened troopers race to the rescue, only to discover that the threat from the bugs is about to hit home. With the latest in CGI technology, this film from executive Producer Casper Van Dien and Director Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) features the return of fan favorite characters Johnny Rico, Captain Ibanez and Carl Jenkins.
The bugs are back! And so are the intrepid (not to mention hot) young men and women who are out to destroy them, as Starship Troopers soars on with Invasion , the franchise's fourth full-length movie. This one's animated--with mixed results, to say the least--but sci-fi fans, especially the younger, male ones, will still find lots to their liking. In this tale, the spaceship Alesia rushes to Fort Casey, an outpost of the United Citizen Federation that's been attacked by the giant, ferocious bugs familiar to Troopers watchers. But the John A. Warden , the ship that was stationed at the outpost, has gone missing, with Carl Jenkins, the mysterious minister of Paranormal Warfare, at the helm. When our heroes find the Warden , it's an ugly scene; the crew has been totally wiped out by bugs, whose gigantic queen is now in control. Her objective is nothing less than an all-out attack on Earth itself, leading to an infestation of frightful proportions, so the good guys clearly have their hands full. Roughnecks: Starship Trooper Chronicles , the animated TV series that preceded Invasion , was relatively tame when it came to violence and mature themes, but that's definitely not the case here, as
