Star vs. the Forces of Evil is an American animated television comedy series produced by Disney Television Animation for Disney XD .

The show was created by Daron Nefcy , who served as a storyboard revisionist for Wander Over Yonder . She is the first woman to create an animated TV series for Disney XD. Dave Wasson serves as director and Jordana Arkin as story editor, while both co-executive produce the series.

The series' sneak preview premiered on January 18 , 2015 on Disney Channel before premiering on its original network Disney XD which premiered on March 30 , 2015. The series officially premiered on May 29 , 2015 on the "Disney XD on Disney Channel" block, and came to an end on May 19 , 2019 .

Star Butterfly is a magical princess from the dimension of Mewni . On her 14th birthday, she receives the family heirloom wand . However, after she accidentally sets fire to her castle, her parents decide that a safer option is to send her to Earth as a foreign exchange student. There, she befriends Marco Diaz and lives with his family while attending Echo Creek Academy . Star and Marco must deal with everyday school life, while protecting Star's wand from falling into the hands of Ludo , a villain from Mewni who commands an army of monsters.

In the third season, Star returns to Mewni after she discovers that magic is disappearing throughout the kingdom. When Star discovers that her family’s history is linked to the use of dark magic and may be responsible for the monster mayhem in Mewni, she must dig deep and confront Ludo to save Marco, her family, and the kingdom.

The fourth season follows Star and Marco as they continue their adventures in Mewni and explore new dimensions. However, as things change in the royal palace, Star soon learns that running the kingdom is far more complicated than she once thought.

Joe Books released a comic mini-series called, " Star vs. the Forces of Evil: Deep Trouble" . It was intended to run for eight issues, but four issues were ever released. The series is written by one of the show's board artists, Zach Marcus, and illustrated by character designer, Devin Taylor.

While the show has not had any physical home video releases, Star vs. the Forces of Evil has been mostly avalible for purchase on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime. [1]

Despite not being present at launch, all 4 seasons of Star vs. the Forces of Evil were added to Disney+ on December 1 , 2019 , less than a month after the debut of the streaming service in the United States and Australia. The show was, however, part of the launch lineup for the Latin American, Japanese and first wave of the European versions of Disney+, but only the first two seasons are available in Europe. On October 1 , 2020 , seasons 3 and 4 were added to Disney+ in the UK, following the closure of Disney Channel and Disney XD in the UK.

Star vs. the Forces of Evil was very well received with both critics and audiences, with some calling it, at the time, the best Disney animated TV show since Gravity Falls . Many critics have praised the show for its originality, unique art style, and memorable characters as well as its rich and deep lore and its writing of the relationships between charcters, particulary between Star and Marco. The first few episodes of the show were a little criticized for its lack of focus but many agreed that the show got better as it went on.

However, reception towards the last few seasons, particularly the final episode, Cleaved , was much less positive, with many fans agreeing that the ending of the show felt extremely abrupt and unsatisfying due to lack of build up of any tension during these seasons towards the ending chosen for the show.

One of the most discussed and praised elements from show, among fans, is the relationship between Star and Marco with many fans considering it the main focus of the show and pairing them romantically in a similar way to how Kim Possible fans paired Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable while the show was airing.

It was good but I think I watched a different episode than the below me. It was more about starting Starco and not destroying it.
Beautiful Memorizing and Stunning I caught a lot of feelings for this one.
It was awesome seeing Starco get crushed and Jarco triumph! Too bad it didn't last.
This really just a solid episode. Probably not the best that the series has ever done, but it's one of if not my absolute personal favorite(s). There are funny jokes and gags, such as the fact that the Blood Moon Ball occurs every six-hundred-and-sixty-SEVEN years, and the gag with the two monsters whose lips don't move. In terms of character, we get a proper introduction to Tom (who is probably my favorite reoccurring character on the show), we get a super mature exchange at the end between Star and Marco, and the side characters such as the Ed Wynn-sounding monster complaining about the ball are a hoot from their personalities alone. Also, this may be a controversial opinion, but I actually like some of the early season 1 episodes that feature slightly choppier animation. It makes the characters move in such a visually interesting way that I can't even describe. Sure, I like the bouncy, more fluid animation from the pilot and season 2, but this looks good in its own right. Overall, ... more
I loved this show to the max even before this episode. But the Blood Moon gave off an entirely different tone than that of the wacky slice of life episodes. When the red light shone on two star-crossed lovers, and the music, that haunting and wonderful song, began to weave their souls together, I knew that I was being bound too. I would stay with this show show until the end, if not to see their weird friendship grow and break, and become one soul and mind through the love they shared
This one had a nice dark theme to it. Tom was introduced in a way where it was hard to trust him making it hard to know whats going to happen. The ending feels really solid and states that star says she wants to do things on her own and not have someone helping her all the time which is a thing that many teens feel. Great Episode!
Dude tom is so awesome! Urgh I wanted to see I'm kill the little bastard, wanted to see I'm with all is power but meh... :s maybe that's why the episode isn't the first one on the list... Do its still my fave episode, tom owns it!
You get to see Star's parents for the first time.
You get to see everyone for the first time.
Personally, I thought this was a great episode because it showed how Star's feelings for Marco were deepening. She initially felt excited for him, but when the time came, she felt upset. It also shows how the corrupted side of her wand can worsen when bothered by her emotions. Star deliberately searched for a dark spell just so she could watch, and it showed the power of Eclipsa's spells when she accidentally popped a wheel on Jackie's skateboard. Even better, the continuation of the Blood Moon Ball (during Jackie and Marco's kiss) was remarkable.
This is the first episode that I hated! I can't think of anything that's good about it!
