Stamping Die Components: Types And Use

press die

The stamping die is usually consist of fixed and movable sections. Fixed sections are made up of clamp plate and screw to attach to the punch press worktable or lower die. The movable sections are attached to the slide of the punch press also known as the upper die. The upper die moves between up and down using the sliders to continue stamping work.

The various components are classified into five types based on their purpose:

Working components

The working progressive mold components is the parts that will be used for stamping work. The first step is to deform the sheet metal and then separate it. Then, you will need the stamping part. Like punch inserts, die inserts, punch-matrix etc.

Pilot components

The purpose of pilot components is control the direction of the feed and the feeding pitch, which helps to ensure the sheet of raw material is in the correction location in stamping die. Such as pilot pin, locating pin, guide pin, dowel pin, dowel plate, side clamp plate etc.

Components for material presses, stripping and lifting:

These parts of the stamping machine were used to made to ensure that the workpiece and scraps could be removed from the machine after each stamping finished and ensure that the next production smooth. For example: Stripper plate, lifting pin, scrap cutting inserts etc.

Guide components

These components ensure that the stamping dies are in the correct direction during relative movement. They also ensure that the punch and die inserts have a clear clearance. This enhances the quality of the stamping components.

Attach and install components

These press die components functions are connected to four kinds of stamping den components, in order to ensure that each tool part's relative positions are precise and precise.

However, this does not mean that every stamping die has to have more than five kinds of components. To reduce validation time and reduce costs, certain stamping equipment can be made simpler by having only functional components.

Use of Different Stamping Die Components

1. Guide Plate Components

The main purpose is to guide the strip of raw material at the correct location prior to feeding in tool, make the strip parallel with tool.

2. Punch and Die Components

These components are the principal working components in tool, which is used to cut, pierce, making, bending and so on.

For high precision and high volume projects, these inserts will make use of carbide materials that have high hardness, could good ensure the stamping die components precision and long-lasting life.

3. Stripper Plate Inserts

These components of the tool are positioned within the stripper plate. They are used to alter the settings of the tool and precision. There are three kinds of structures including shoulder type, screw fix type, and double layer type. The most commonly used type is shoulder type.

4. Pilot Pin and Missfeeder Detection Device

The purpose of the pilot pin is to form an adjustment strip before the tool 1 station starts to work. Mis-feeder can also prevent tools from closing when it's not feeding. This will help to safeguard the tool from injury.

5. Main Guide Pillar and Bush, Sub-guide Pillar and Bush. Bush Sub-guide Pillar Bush, Sub-guide Pillar Bush

All of the components in a stamping dies are basic components that are used to guide the tools. The work of stamping usually requires the use of the main guide post and pillar to create an initial guide. The sub-guide posts and the pillar serve to guide the precision of. This helps ensure that whole tool sets are precise.

6. Limit Bolt

This feature is intended to stop tool damage and die-closed height inaccuracy. It also helps protect inserts and tools.

7. Guide Pin

The guide pin is employed to direct the flow of material into molds, and also serves as a tool for stripping the material.

8. Clamp Screw

The clamp screw is used to attach the die components together , and also provide a tight clamping force to ensure the tool is secure under pressure.

9. Connect the Screw

The spring inside the tool is typically a screw that is joined to springs inside the tool. This may lower spring compression when force is applied and allows you to alter the precompression height.

10. Stripper Spring and Screw for Stripper

The type of inner thread is utilized for the stripper screw. This can be employed to secure stripper plates as well as dismantle them. The stripper spring is able to provide enough pressure and pulling force for the stripper plate.
