Superb exclusive hotel on a picturesque stretch of beach. Service was impeccable and the restaurant excellent and not expensive. The chef will come out and chat to you about the food and cooking techniques etc. Breakfast was fabulous - have the egg hoppers. Thalpe is a tiny village so you will have to organise some transport to get to Galle or Unawatuna. This place will make you feel like a rockstar though so you may want to stay around This is a small 8 room hotel and we stayed here one night with the aim of going whale watching the next day. The hotel is only a 20 minute drive from Mirissa so it was very convenient. It was very quiet. The food was very good and excellent value for money. However the room service was limited and the beach is not great, although the sea view is lovely. We were upgraded from Lobby room to Gardern suite upon checked in since hotel was not busy. Property is cute but when first checked in, thought room smelled a bit musky. Think its from the dampness being near the beach. There are doors to the room so you get plenty of light. Room is spacious. Enjoy the fact that you can look out to the garden whilst taking a shower. Service was good. The waiters were smiley and helpful. Rather romantic property since they only have 8 rooms so there is no lack of privacy. Quiet , serene. A good place to relax after our 12 days trip around Sri Lanka. The downside is that the beach is not ideal. Its rocky and not suitable for swimming. Unawatuna is only a 3 mins tuk tuk ride away. There is nothing around so you will have to get your driver to drive you to Galle for other dining options beside the 1 restaurant in the hotel. However we were upgraded to the 5 star sister hotel - Jetwing Lighthouse hotel in Galle. The food was superb and staff - very friendly and accommodating. We used the Spa as well and it was again a magical experience! The children loved the pools there are two and the beach is so interesting with plenty to discover! The rooms were a lovely colonial style and the bathrooms really luxurious. This hotel is a great place to retreat to. The pool is lovely, the actual beach is not really safe for swimming, quite rocky directly in front of the hotel, but ok 00 meters own. The rooms need a bit of a tart up, but a basically charming old style Sri Lankan teak. The bedding seemed a bit damp to me. Unfortunately I old not stay the whole night, as I had a flight brought forward thanks air Lanka. On could only spend the afternoon,. Staff were very friendly. It is a bit out of the way though, so nothing else to do immediately around the hotel, just other private villas and hotels of similar type. It was so nice to be tested almost like royalty! Food was amazing, delicious and a little slow to produce so order in plenty of time and except everything is done at a much slower pace! The beach is stunning and can be accessed from the garden, pool is perfect for swimming. We wen out of season so it was quiet everywhere but was nice to relax here and enjoy the peace and quiet. From the time we arrived until departure, we felt like Royalty! We were so amazed by the food, the service and felt like we were in our own villa! Truly a remarkable experience! One of the most beautiful places i have ever stayed. Would definitely come back to stay here. Me and my mum stayed here for 4days. On arrival we had booked a lobby room, but decided to pay the extra 25dollars a night and upgrade to a garden room. The rooms were much bigger huge bathroom and walk in closet. While we were there it was my mothers birthday and every day they decorated the bed with flowers and on her birthday made little swans out the towels which was a added touch. We was very happy to stay at this hotel and will return. And they made my mother a cake on her birthday. The breakfast is lovely and made us want to get out of bed in the morning. Unawatuna, is around 10mins from era beach hotel and we paid rupees each way. Overall we had a pleasant stay and will recommend this hotel to others. The hotel was absolutely beautiful. It feels very much like staying at a mansion by the sea. There are not hoards of guests- only a handful at a time, which gives you a feeling of real exclusivity and high level of personal service. The food was wonderful, and sitting by the sea all day here was one of the most peaceful parts of my holiday. This may not be such an issue for people who are not solo travellers, but for me, security is paramount when traveling. On the first night in the hotel, I was given an enormous room which was gorgeous. However, there were about 6 doors to the room, none of which seemed particularly secure. The manager on the first night was fairly dismissive of the problem but on the second night a different manager was very understanding and moved me to a much more secure but smaller room. I was also very upset by the lock issue, particularly as a solo female traveller. One other problem I encountered was that my driver was given accommodation in the sister hotel which is 9km away. Beautiful hotel, very tasteful decor, if you want a bit of luxury this is the place to stay. Staff were very friendly and service, food excellent. The pool was an added bonus - spacious and good for swimming proper lengths. The hotel has just 8 rooms. The staff are best I have seen in Sri Lanka. All facilities are available in room. The hotel has a dutch house look. It is right on the beach. The food menu is limited. Its a bit heavy on the pocket. Im still grinning 6 days after my stay at jetwing era. We reached Era beach after a long 6 hour cab ride from Bandaraniake Airport and was welcomed by what was a dream of a sight! The breakfast the next morning was a spread made for the king and queen. The breakfast keeps u going until dinner time at least. Jetwing era beach is an old colonial bungalow that has been converted into a hotel. The location is perfect and the place is beautiful. Rooms do not even have basic amenities like refrigerators and safes. But it is comfortable and the staff, especially the manager made sure we were having a good time. It needs to have better amenities for the price they charge. The biggest draw back for me would be all the vehicle noise from the main street that you can hear in some of the rooms. We were moved to a bigger and better room, that was a lot quieter. The food at the hotel was amazing. We, I and my two friends from Serbia stay at this hotel on April 10th and we suppose stay there for two nights. But unfortunately due to announcement of tsunami threat to Sri Lanka on dated april11th we had to go out of the costal region of Sri Lanka. So, we missed the good opportunity to entertain wonderful place which we liked at the very first moment we arrived. Everything about this place shouts wonderful, the sea view rooms are to die for, the salt pool the best ever, design of the place, colonial is stunning. The restaurant and the chef are great and the staff very charming. Unfortunately the management just never came out of their office long enough to find out what service their very willing but under-trianed staff were offering. They seemed to think that a 'boutique' hotel does things differently, well they were right there! The Era Beach is near to the Unawatuna beach but a suburb along, so to speak. The hotel is more of a Villa with plenty of staff than a hotel. Service is a little slow and a few things were not quite right such as the phone not working in the room. However, the location is peaceful, the design elegant and the lunch we had great. I would recommend the hotel. I was very impressed with this hotel. It was such a gorgeous and serene setting with very excellent and personalized service. It only has a few rooms, so it is very intimate and relaxing. I enjoyed sitting on the lounge chairs and looking out over the ocean and watching the surfers! Also enjoyed the special drinks the bartender made and the fabulous breakfasts. The pool was just perfect too! My room was huge and the canopy bed with curtains was so comfortable I could have stayed there all day! I also really liked the huge bathroom with cool rectangular sink. The mimimalist decorating was perfect! Coming off the busy bustling road into the hotel is a real breath of fresh air! Would recommend to stay here as we checked out most of the other hotels in the area and all thought we made the right choice.
