I've carried Victorinox for decades, but decided to go with this when I needed a replacement for my keychain. I got it largely because I wanted a semi-real set of pliers which I knew Leatherman is good at. First of all I need to mention the size and weight. This is literally a keychain fob. It is not much larger than the tiny Victorinox I had previously and offers more functionality. It is really light too - I don't notice extra weight on my keys, and I'm not concerned about it wearing out the ignition in my cars (yes I still have ignition keys). The pliers are the centerpiece here and they are a really handy set. They have small wirecutters all the way inside the jaws, and the set on the jaws is about right for light gauge steel (20 gauge?) or maybe a thick thumbnail. Anything much thicker than that and it won't hold right, but at that point you probably should just go get proper pliers. They have positive detents that work great - not to difficult but hold it when it needs held. The scissors I was really worried about but the spring mechanism on them is actually much better than what Victorinox uses. No complaints on the scissors except they are kind of buried in there. Not hard to get out, but hard to tell at a glance where they are. They cut fine but Leatherman definitely loses points to Victorinox on quality of blades. Which brings us to the knife... I mean, it's not import Asian junk, the steel seems ok, but it is way more crude than I am used to. This was the case with the scissors too, but the knife was not very finely ground - I spent about 5 minutes on the diamond hones starting at 400 grit - starting at 400 isn't that bad, but I've never had to do anything to a Victorinox blade out of the box like that. The weirdest thing of all is that the knife blade is single-bevel. One side is completely flat and the other side bevels down to make the point. There are two cases where I know single bevel blades are used: wood chisels, and boning knives. I'm not going to do either of those tasks with a tiny pocket knife. I wonder was this a cost-saving measure, or is there some reason for it? It's not a dealbreaker for a keychain knife but it's a head scratcher for sure. The small slotted screwdriver and the bottle opener/large slotted driver are also buried in the frame and difficult to get out. I probably won't use any of those features - the bottle opener in particular seems really too small to get the job done easily. It does seem like the small standalone slotted driver was an afterthought. I think it would have been handier to have a can opener or Phillips driver. Or better yet, tweezers... I used my Victorinox tweezers, a LOT. The file is NOT a nail file. There is a single-cut side and a double-cut side, one edge is safe, and the other edge is single-cut and coarser than the flat single-cut. It's a real file. Which makes me wonder... what use do I have for a 1 1/4" pocket file that has single and double cut? I actually can do my nails with it because it has the one safe edge, but it's clearly been added as a real file... I just don't see myself trying to do an emergency lawnmower blade sharpening with this thing. I'd rather have a nail file. In summary there were always things I didn't think Victorinox did well and I went with this Leatherman (it's my first BTW) in order to evaluate whether Leatherman fixes those things. The answer is yes, but it drops the ball on other things Victorinox does well. However I'm happy with my purchase... but I am glad I'm reviewing a keychain fob first, before spending real money on a full size Leatherman.

I've carried a small key ring Victorinox "Swiss Army" knife for about 30 years, and only recently switched to the Leatherman Squirt PS4 (Red). I often wear slacks or chino type pants for work, so carrying a large knife usually doesn't look good. That's why I've preferred the Victorinox, usually something along the lines of the Classic or Rambler models. I was in the market for a new knife when I came across the Leatherman at a local event. Unfortunately (for that vendor) the price was more than twice what it is here at Amazon, so I ended up buying here (the Prime shipping made it an even better deal, by the way). Three things worth noting about this knife. First, The size is perfect for someone who wants a small multi-tool/knife combination but doesn't want to carry a large belt mounted unit or a bulging tool in the pocket. As the name Squirt implies, it is small (2.9" x 2" x 1.2") for comparison purposes it is actually smaller than a ChapStick or similar item. Length and width are about like a small pocket knife, and the only "bulk" for the unit is its height. Another comparison is about the size of a typical flash drive. There is a downside to the size, obviously, since you will also get a small knife and other tools. So long as you're not trying to skin anything larger than a hamster then you're okay. Second, the combination of needle-nose pliers and scissors in the unit (two different tools, actually) are a huge advantage. My Victorinox had scissors, which I used a lot, but does not have the pliers. In my opinion, the pliers are worth the money alone, but to put pliers and scissors in the same unit is simply brilliant! Third, the overall quality is actually very good, even though some have complained. There are a LOT of cheaper units on the market, and once you compare the Leatherman to any of the less expensive models you'll realize just how good the quality is for the money. Do NOT expect this to be the same as the much more expensive full size multi-tools. I have a Leatherman "Super Tool" that I carry on my belt when I'm in shorts or jeans, and will never go on the ATV or motorcycle without this tool. The quality difference between the Super Tool (MSRP $84) and the Squirt (MSRP $41.40) is obvious, but I think part of that is more about the size of the tool than the actual quality of the workmanship. I say all this because I've read a few other reviews that suggest the quality is not very high for this tool. I don't know what those folks expect for under $25, but this is a great quality piece for the price/size of the tool. I can easily see carrying this knife/tool for many years in the future. As I noted in the opening, I carried the Victorinox models for more than 30 years, and I still have the original knife I bought in the late 70s. It is pretty banged up, so it has been "retired," and I've gone through a couple others in that time. I would say this Leatherman will likely last as long (if not longer) than any of the Victorinox. That's not to say the Swiss Army knifes aren't still great, just that they will have a little place in my arsenal for the future. While I'm thinking of it, there is a doofus on YouTube that did a review of this tool and didn't have any clue as to the use of the flat head Phillips screwdriver. I can understand this, especially if you've never seen one before, and I bring it up in case anyone finds that video online. I think he called it a "worthless" tool or something silly like that. The reality is that this is a single-blade Phillips screwdriver (separate from the flat head screwdriver) and it is actually fairly good for small Phillips head screws. Don't look at the tool and think you're just getting two flat heads, the two drivers are very different and serve very different needs. I like this PS4 so much that I am ordering the Leatherman Squirt ES4, which is intended for electrical work. The biggest difference is that instead of the regular needle nose pliers, which have a standard gripping surface on the inside, the ES$ is designed to work as a needle-nose pliers with Wire Stripper for 20GA, 18GA, 16GA, 14GA and 12GA wire. One last item ... if you're looking for a good present (Christmas, Hanukkah, or Birthday) for someone, then consider this tool. This is a good tool for both men and women. It will easily fit in a purse or pant pocket, and as noted it will not cause a big bulge. It is reasonably priced, comes in three colors, and has a nice feel to it overall. I can't imagine someone getting this as a gift and not appreciating the value right away.

It’s always nice to have a multi tool handy. I carry this on my belt but you can literally put this thing anywhere.

The featherweight champ!

A great multi tool backed by a fabulous company! A precise little device able to take on many daily tasks and more. On top of the tight tolerances of this mini device, the backing of a fantastic customer service is second to none! Nicely anodized scales offer a very durable shell for the knife, scissors, the two drivers, and the file which can nearly sub in as a mini saw! Your ps4 can be anything you can put your mind to. It can assist with loose thread, the opener of your latest instant noodle discovery, or the savoir when you have a hangnail! It has now become my pistachio eating buddy, but the sky's the limit with this gem. When you're packing light for everyday life in the city, look no further... This powerhouse of a tool is a must have! 5 stars for this tool and Leatherman, the company that gives this handy tool a 25 year warranty!

The knife is sharp out of the box and great for light utilitarian jobs

This is a very robust little multi-tool. While it may not have many tools it has enough to mkae it a valuable EDC addition to your kit. The knife is sharp out of the box and great for light utilitarian jobs. The scissors are excellent and have a great leaf spring action. The real winner is the set of pliers on the MT. It has a great spring system that is very strong and returns to an open setting, and is easily one hand manipulated. This is a much better option over the Gerber Dime which broke on me within weeks of light use. Yes this is more than 3 times the price, but it has already lasted 3 times as long. Buy once, cry once. A definite win here for Leatherman. -Squib

A companion for my Victorinox Cadet

The Victorinox Cadet is a great gentleman's folder but I found that I needed something that was equally as small, well and built with pliers. Well this was the answer. I've used it many times, and although small it's still extremely useful. Update: One year in the scissors broke. They were only used less than 6 times. Pliers are OK for very small jobs, the rest of the tools are meh. For the price point on this think about something else. Scissor issues are a problem with this model and the Style. VIctorinox quality is superior.

Great EDC Tool

Was debating carrying a larger tool for EDC, but I figure if it's noticeable on body in weight or size, I just wouldn't carry it. This is super small and super light. Scissors, screwdriver, pliers, tiny sharp blade - everything I might need when away from home for 90% of in-the-moment tasks. Also own a leatherman WIngman and can carry that if I think I'll be needing it - but this Squirt stays on me at all times. No reason not to own it! (well - maybe if you carry a folding knife along with a Style PS - considered that combo too).

Herramienta sorprendente
