Springfield High School Wins State Basketball Championship

Local High School Basketball Team Makes History with Undefeated Season

Springfield, April 8, 2025 – The Springfield High School Lions have capped off a perfect season, finishing 25-0 and securing their first state championship in over two decades. The team’s thrilling 68-65 victory over rival Jefferson High in the finals has cemented their place in local sports history.

Led by star point guard Marcus Carter, who scored a game-high 28 points in the championship, the Lions dominated the court with a mix of fast breaks, lockdown defense, and clutch three-point shooting. Carter, a senior committed to playing for Duke University next year, was named MVP of the tournament.

'This team never gave up,' said Coach David Reynolds. 'They worked harder than anyone, trusted each other, and played with heart every single game.'

The victory sparked wild celebrations in Springfield, with fans flooding the streets in a parade honoring the team. School officials announced plans to retire Carter’s jersey and hang a new championship banner in the gym.
