The Spread Indicator for MetaTrader 4 (MT4) is a useful forex tool that quickly allows you to get to know the current currency spread on the market. This is especially useful with non-fixed spread brokers, determining the current spread by looking at the 5-digits quotes can be an exhausting task.
In other words, the Spread Indicator is used to measure the difference between the bid and ask price of a financial instrument, security, currency pair, or asset. The spread indicator is used in a chart to visually show the spread at a quick glance of an eye and it is a popular tool among forex traders.
The indicator is displayed in the top left corner of your chart. You can easily customize the position, color and font size as with ordinary labels. Your changes won’t get overridden.
When you load up the indicator, your chart should look like that (but the label is yellow by default):
Default settings are a bit unreadable on white charts, so we suggest doing some individual adjustments, like bigger font size and different color. These are available settings:
Alright, we have now a crystal-clear spread piece of information. Obviously, the spread indicator is not a trade-entry-provider, but an additional factor that MUST be taken into consideration before making a decision on trade. Let’s say we have a very good trading setup, but when the spread is high it will most probably turn out unprofitable. Never take trades during high-spread conditions.
Take a look at the example below, the trend is very bullish and one could take a long trade, but notice the spread, it’s as high as 16 pips! Better avoid trading during that time.
On the other hand, in that next example, we can also notice a clear bullish trend and possible long opportunities. We can safely look for entry, as the spread is only 2.1 pips.
To the downloadable archive (at the bottom of this post) we have added an alternative, simple version of MT4 Spread Indicator. In this case, the indicator displays spread value in points instead of pips. For example, a spread of 55 points is a spread of 5.5 pips.
There are a few major keypoints ralated to spread:
You should know that the MetaTrader trading platform (both versions MT4 and MT5) comes with spread information by default, but it needs to turn on manually. To enable that feature, navigate to the Market Watch panel, and then right-click the header and left-click the Spread option in the menu.
After you successfully turn it on, you should have an additional column with the spread provided in the Market Watch panel. It should look like that:
Download the Spread Indicator.rar archive at the bottom of this post, unpack it, then copy and paste the Spread Indicator.ex4 or Spread Indicator.mq4 files into the MQL4 folder of the Metatrader 4 trading platform.
You can gain access to this folder by clicking the top menu options, which goes as follows:
File > Open Data Folder > MQL4 > Indicators (paste here).
Now go to the left side of your MT4 terminal. In the Navigator find the gauge name, right-click it and select Attach to the chart .

The results of the Spread indicator depend on the time-frame that you choose. For example if you will attach the indicator to the M1 chart - the Spread indicator will draw 1 minute bar periods. The Spread indicator measures:
The results from the beginning of measuring are located in the upper left corner. Next to the Spread text label, there is an average spread from the beginning of measuring (3.6 in the picture above), minimum spread from the beginning of measuring (2.0 in the picture above) and maximum spread (7.0 in the picture above). The light blue horizontal line stands for actual spread. The grey horizontal line stands for average spread from the beginning of measuring.
The light blue bar represents minimum and maximum value of spread during given time period. The dark blue color represents a maximum value of spread from the beginning of measuring. Our Spread indicator is a professional and highly useful MT4 tool for measuring spreads, spotting spread widening of low-quality brokers and measuring your real spread trading costs. Also do not forget that except spread costs, execution costs (slippage) influence every order executed on real account too.

Do you need help with installing this indicator into MT4 for Windows or Mac OS?

With this little script, I have attempted to incorporate fundamental data (in this case, 10-year bond yields) into technical analysis . When pairing two currencies, the one with a higher bond interest rate usually appreciates when the interest rate differential widens, or, to use a simple example: in a currency pair A vs. B, with A showing a higher bond yield than...

English:
Indicator calculates spread between future and it's theoretical price baased on base contract, number of days to expiration and central bank key rate.
I didn't find any means of getting base contract of security on chart so I hardcoded futures and corresponding base contracts.
Hardcoded futures are MOEX (Moscow Exchange) only and key rate used in script...

Hey everyone, I have been using volume a lot more lately as price action can sometimes get manipulated but volume shows us the truth!
Anyways, I have enjoyed the Volume Spread for VSA indicator but wished I had the code to change a few settings. This volume indicator includes spread analysis with the ability to customize input values and I'm making it open source...

Volume indicator judging level of volume per bar accordingly to Volume Spread Analysis rules. It allows either to set static volume levels or dynamic ones based on ratio comparable to Moving Average. Bars are coloured based on ratio or static levels, visually presenting level of Volume (low, average, high, ultra high).

Measures spread of the candle, useful especially for Volume Spread Analysis (VSA) and to measure trend strength. Spread is coloured based on level comparable to Moving Average.

This script implements a rebrushed distance-based pair trading strategy. In this strategy, normally they trade the difference between the prices of two instruments. This difference is also called spread. Here, however we’ll trade the difference between two time frames of one instrument. And that's the main trick. Common procedure consists of the following...

//Every spread & central tendency measure in 1 script with comfortable visualization, including scrips's status line.

Spread measures:
- Standard deviation (for most cases);
- Average deviation (if there are extreme values);
- GstDev - Geometric Standard Deviation (exclusively for Geometric Mean);
- HstDev - Harmonic Deviation (exclusively for Harmonic...

Correlation Based Pair Trading Strategy (Trading the spread)

There are three popular styles of Pair trading:

* Distance based pair trading
* Correlation based pair trading
* Cointegration based pair trading

The correlation based strategy is to short the outperforming instrument and go long on the underperforming one
whenever the temporary correlation weakens...

Note: Pardon for a busy chart. It really is irrelevant for this indicator. Just look at the bottom part of the chart for the indicator (SpAn).

This script is meant to add objectivity to the estimation of spread in VSA. This is best used with a similar volume indicator that measures volume in the same fashion, but a simple rule of "higher/lower than the...

Simple Oscillator showing Price relative to a 200-Day SMA and 200-Day EMA

Note: This script will only work with Binance Futures Symbols

This script calculates the basis between the Binance Future and Binance Spot market for the coin you are currently viewing and paints a label on the chart which displays the percentage difference between future and spot. If the future is trading below the spot market the text will be red indicating...

This is for displaying a price line showing the spread difference of brokers such as 1broker.com or trading212.com where price is different than actual price. It may also be used as an ask line.

Version 2 is well featured with a toggle for JPY pairs. As well as 5 different traditional charts: Candlesticks, Heikenashi, Renko, Western Bar, Area.

If you like this...
