Spotify Got A Big Boost This Year, Thanks To An Unexpected Audience

2020 was also a huge year for virtual artists, artists who have fictional personas, such as the band Gorillaz. Japanese virtual singer Hatsune Miku saw streams go up by 136% in the year.
Riot Games, the company behind "League of Legends" created a virtual pop-star group known as K/DA in 2018. Their name is a reference to the League of Legends lingo, which refers to the killings and deaths of players during each game. These are then noted on the scoreboard. This year, Riot brought the group that was sung by real-life singers, back with a new album whose songs have topped the Billboard charts. Spotify has seen its stream growth increase by 109%.
Riot announced that its invention of K/DA has allowed it to gain a wider audience beyond League gamers and has helped get more people interested in the game's content it said to CNN Business in a statement.
Cook stated that music and gaming are inextricably linked because gamers are inclined to listen while they play.
