USUALLY private former Spice Girl Melanie C has stunned fans by posting a near-nude picture to her official Instagram account.
But some of her followers were quick to accuse the artist known to many as Sporty Spice of hypocrisy, with the post coming mere weeks after she’d criticised the current crop of pop stars for getting their clothes off.
“Cheeky little cover shoot tomorrow. Better get my work pants ready!” the singer captioned the candid pic, which shows her facing the camera in nothing but a pair of flesh-coloured underpants, hands covering her breasts and a surprised look on her face. She added the hashtag #putsomeclothesonwoman for good measure.
Melanie C declined the opportunity to rejoin with the Spice Girls to celebrate their 20th anniversary this year, instead releasing her seventh solo album Version Of Me . She made headlines at the time of the album’s release thanks to controversial comments about UK girl band Little Mix.
While she said that she loved the band — describing them as the “closest thing to the Spice Girls we’ve seen” — she said their increasingly racy image meant she was reluctant to let seven-year-old daughter Scarlet watch their videos.
“[Scarlet] is a massive Little Mix fan but I’ve started to be more sparing in what I show her. I don’t let her watch videos by artists that aren’t appropriate for her. That makes me a bit sad,” she said of the band.
“All young women want to look sexy and hot so I understand it’s hard. But I think it’s such a shame. We live in a narcissistic age — it’s 100 per cent worse than when I was in the Spice Girls.
“It was a more innocent time, although we were criticised for wearing crop tops.”
Given the raunchy nature of the former Spice Girl’s latest Instagram pic, followers were quick to point out what they saw as hypocrisy: “Too sexy for my daughter to see,” one Instagram user quipped under the photo, while another asked, “Didn’t you just criticise Little Mix for dressing ‘provocatively’? A bit hypocritical don’t ya think?!!”
Another pointed out that Mel had vowed in another recent interview that she would never publicly disrobe.
“Didn’t you say in an interview on The Pool a few weeks back that you don’t know why women get their kit off in the name of ‘girl power’ and you couldn’t get your ‘bits and bobs out in public’ as you wouldn’t find it ‘empowering’. Hypocritical much?” one person commented.

All those Sporty Spice workouts are paying off! Spice Girl alum, Mel C, took to Instagram on Tuesday to show off her ripped body in a topless undies pic.
"Cheeky little cover shoot tomorrow," Mel C, whose full name is Melanie Chisholm, captioned the pic. "Better get my work pants ready! #behindthescenes #versionofme #putsomeclothesonwoman."

In the shot, Chisholm is covering her chest with her arms, flashing her washboard abs and signature tattoos.
The girl group alum released her seventh solo album, Version of Me , in October after opting out of a Spice Girls reunion for the 20th anniversary of "Wannabe."
She's also not the first of her bandmates to strip down this week. Mel B (aka Scary Spice) also posted a nude mirror shot to Instagram over this past weekend with a positive message.

"As a woman I Embrace my flaws and I'm comfortable in my own skin, might as well im gonna be in it for the rest of my life," Mel B, whose full name is Melanie Brown, wrote. "I'm the kinda girl that has absolutely no desire to fit in. Ladies we gotta love the skin we are in #feelinmyself."

On Tuesday evening, Melanie Chisholm caused quite a sensation when she took to Instagram to share an old of herself topless as she prepared for a shoot.
And while a large number of the 42-year-old singer's 200,000-strong followers cooed over her rippling abs, several branded her a 'hypocrite', pointing to her criticism of Little Mix's 'provocative' style during a recent interview.
Wrote one: 'Didn't you say... a few weeks back that you don't know why women get their kit off in the name of "girl power" and you couldn't get your "bits and bobs out in public" as you wouldn't find it "empowering". Hypocritical much?'

'Pretty sure you were quick to criticize Little Mix on their "provocative" outfits and sexualisation and here you are with nothing but your pants on?? Pot kettle black springs to mind,' stated another.
'And you had the nerve to criticize Little Mix,' a user on the photo-sharing social media app curtly wrote, while another asked: 'Didn't you just criticise Little Mix for dressing "provocatively"?. A bit hypocritical don't ya think?!!'
'Sadly I think you may have left yourself open for this criticism from Little Mix fans,' a follower opined next to the vintage shot. 'Not that I think your photo is sexual at all.

'Neither did I think you were correct in your criticism of those young ladies trying to become adults in a sexist industry.'
While she praised the group - consisting of Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thrilwall and Jesy Nelson - the artist formerly known as Sporty Spice told the Sunday Mirror in October that she wasn't a huge fan of their changing style.
'I love Little Mix. I loved them from The X Factor. I just thought they were so different,' she said. 'But they are getting more provocative. To me, they were kind of the closest thing to the Spice Girls we’ve seen.

'They are all gorgeous and great singers. But they weren’t sexy and it’s got more and more that way. I love them – but I just say, "Stay you."' 
In Mel's nude shot, the Northern Star singer was seen covering her cleavage with her hands while she showed off her enviably toned body in just a pair of flesh coloured panties.

The feisty star shared a powerful message about body confidence on Friday as she stripped off to prove she doesn't care about her 'flaws'. 
Taking to Instagram, the 41-year-old singer shared a snap of herself in the nude, with only her hands protecting her modesty. 
Gazing at herself in the mirror, the mother-of-three looked sensational as she donned just gold jewellery and a slick of red lipstick on her plump pout.

Melanie C has come a long way since her Spice Girls days.
Gone are the backflips and tracksuits, and in their place a brand new album and a very sophisticated floral print midi dress!
We have to say we love this new look, and the dress she wore for her album launch at Ronnie Scott's is grown-up glamour at its best. It's by Balenciaga and the red poppy print is very pretty. The loose fit, wrap front and midi length make it super flattering, and when teamed with velvet boots by Jimmy Choo we say bravo to her stylist Anna Foster!

Meanwhile, Mel has been hard at work with the upcoming Spice Girls reunion. 
Whilst Mel and Victoria Beckham opted not to join in, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner are set to reform under the new name, GEM.
Last month, fans went into meltdown as a song began circulating the internet with fans claiming it was GEM's new material. 
Emma confirmed it was theirs, but revealed it was just written as 'a bit of fun' and would not be released as their new single. 
She told MailOnline: 'We wrote something and it got leaked and it got stolen which is not great but we've had nice feedback.'
Meanwhile, Mel admitted that she was fustrated by the lack of progress with their reunion, telling The Telegraph : 'I'm fed up with talking about it because until it is absolutely set in stone and everybody gets their arse in gear, there is nothing to say.'
