Rumors of Sorority Row 2 have been circulating since the original arrived in 2009, but will the slasher sequel ever happen? Here’s what we know.
Here’s an update on the status of the horror sequel Sorority Row 2 . The “sorority slasher” is a horror subgenre that usually involves a bunch of sorority sisters being stalked by a crazed killer who takes advantage of the fact college campuses make perfect hunting grounds because they’re brimming with young adults making bad decisions. Bob Clark’s 1974 film Black Christmas is regarded as the seminal sorority slasher and spawned a wave of successors – from 1980s efforts like Sorority House Massacre and The Initiation to more recent offerings like The Row or even Ryan Murphy’s short-lived TV show Scream Queens .
In 2009, Sorority Row became the latest entry into the sorority slasher movie subgenre . Directed by Stewart Handler, it’s a loose remake of the 1982 sorority horror and cult classic The House On Sorority Row . Set at the fictional Rosman University, the remake follows members of a sorority named Theta Pi who play a prank that goes terribly wrong and results in the accidental death of a sister. Several months after covering up the fatal prank, the remaining Theta Pi sisters find themselves stalked by a killer that gruesomely picks them off one by one.
Since its 2009 release, rumors have floated around that the horror remake could be getting a sequel, but will Sorority Row 2 ever happen? Here’s what we know.
During the third act of Sorority Row , the Theta Pi sisters find scary college student Garrett (Matt O’Leary) – who accidentally killed his girlfriend and their fellow sister during the prank gone wrong – at the site where they hid the body with his wrists cut in an apparent suicide attempt. Believing he’s the killer stalking them, the sisters run Garrett over with their car and presume he’s dead.
However, the final scene reveals a figure with scarred wrists looming outside Theta Pi's sorority suggesting Garrett survived and is out for revenge. That ending left the door open for Sorority Row 2 and the possibility of a follow-up seemed bolstered by the fact star Briana Evigan claimed in an interview with Bloody Disgusting that a sequel was in the works. That said …
Unfortunately, there haven’t been any firm updates on the status of Sorority Row 2 since then. Add to that the fact that Sorority Row was both a critical flop and a box office bomb when it was released in 2009, and it would seem that any plans for Sorority Row 2 have long since been abandoned. The movie itself has become something of a cult item in the years since its release, but a sequel currently looks very doubtful.

She’s produced content for the likes of Culture Trip, WhatCulture and Prague.TV and started writing for Screen Rant in 2019 – firstly as a news writer before progressing onto writing mini-features. Helen is a lifelong fan of the horror genre which started in the 1980s when films like Gremlins and Cat’s Eye scared the life out of her as a kid. If she had to pick a favorite horror movie it would probably be The Shining but Ari Aster’s Hereditary and Midsommar rank in joint second place. Helen loves a good movie musical too and has probably watched The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Hedwig And The Angry Inch, The Blues Brothers and Little Shop Of Horrors more times than is healthy. She’s obsessed with dogs too so any films from the “sad dog movie” genre (Homeward Bound, Marley & Me, etc) make her ugly cry big time … but she’s still a cold-hearted horror movie fan, ok?

The bird-shaped cane that Cassidy grabs for a weapon in one scene is an homage to The House on Sorority Row (1982) , as it's the same style cane that Mrs. Slater carries in that film.
When Jessica is killed her eyes are open. When the shot pans out her eyes are closed. Then when the killer removes the tire iron from her mouth her eyes are open again.

Oh no, a guy is cheating on one of the Theta Pi sisters! Good for them they have a prank lined up for some prime revenge. Too bad said prank ends with one of them dead. To make things worse, a hooded slasher is after them after graduation. Last year, we got a remake of "Prom Night" that ended up being one of the worst horror remakes of the decade, and committed a cardinal sin-a PG-13 slasher movie. Well, look at "Sorority Row" (a remake of the 1983 slasher flick "The House on Sorority Row") as the movie the "Prom Night" remake should have been-the anti-"Prom Night" remake if you will. It's not a classic, but nobodies expecting that now, are they? So, what works? For one thing, while not a splatter flick, there are some impressive kills available, as well as a sweet murder weapon that has potential to become iconic. Also, the performances are fun. Carrie Fisher is a hoot to watch (her role is a bit too minuscule though) and unlike say "I Know What You Did Last Summer", this movie makes no bones about the fact that most of these characters are unlikable and deserve their fates. The best surprise as far as acting is concerned is Leah Pipes as the bitchy leader of the sorority sisters Jessica. She's a blast to watch, and plays the part without overacting or overdoing her character. In short, she steals the show as far as I'm concerned. The movie does have it's flaws-it's a bit too flashy at moments, at times could have done a little more with it's R-rating (there's nudity, but none of the lead girls gets naked? For shame!) and the final ten minutes could have definitely used some work. Nags aside, "Sorority Row" is a fun guilty pleasure. Sure, it's more catered towards a teen audience than hardcore horror fans, but come on, most slasher flicks have been catered to a teen audience. Besides, in an age of pointless PG-13 horror, 3D gimmicks, unnecessary sequels like "Halloween II" and "The Final Destination", horror flicks that try to hard to be hardcore, and horror flicks that try too hard to cater to horror fans (I'm a hardcore horror fan, but occasionally that can get annoying), a piece of unapologetic slasher fluff goes down easy. Plus, any movie that opens with girls in PJ's with their asses exposed jumping up and down can't be all bad.
