Overall, I would say these boots are a good buy. I have wide feet, EEEE width, so it's difficult to find quality waterproof winter boots that are also warm. These boots are definitely waterproof and good quality. The reason I'm only giving four stars rather than five are for two reasons: tight fit and lack of warmth. I have big calves in addition to wide feet, so the middle portion of the boots are tight as well in the feet. My feet later got used to the tight fit, so the boots fit fairly comfortably, but I would have liked it if they were a true EEEE width, rather than just "wide boots." Finally, even though my feet stay dry, the boots don't keep them completely warm. I live in Rochester, NY, so my feet can get somewhat cold in temperatures of 20 degrees or less. I would recommend wearing warm socks with these boots, which helps in extreme cold. On the positive side, these boots are lightweight, durable, waterproof, and they look good. I don't have to worry about snow soaking through these boots like I have with previous ones I've owned. Overall, I'd say these are good quality boots to keep your feet dry in the snow.

I had a pair of this type of Sorel for 35 years, from back when they were still manufactured in Canada. The original ones were heavier and the felt liner was thicker and less flexible. A size 14 in medium width (then) fit my foot perfectly. These appear to have thinner felt liners than the originals and seem much wider and a little tight in length. Although I'd agree that you should order your usual foot size, don't presume that they'll run large because you're assumed to be wearing them with a heavy sock. They'll be wide enough for a heavy sock, but may be tight in the toe length if your usual size doesn't include a heavy sock. A nominal U.S. size 14 is said to have a European equivalent of 47-48. Mine are correctly marked 47. I usually wear a European size 48, the higher end of the size 14 nominal size range. I can wear these with a thin sock, but they're too short with a heavy wool sock of the type you'd expect while wearing these in winter. With the thin dock, they feel extremely wide. The original 1965s had at least some arch support. These have none. So, if you want arch support, you'll need to add it, otherwise these walk rather flat-footed. There is likely enough room to add an orthotic or other arch support. I would consider the fit on these as wider than a usual medium. There is no heel cup, so these wouldn't be good for extended walking. Otherwise the manufacture is okay. Mine came with some silicone waterproofing smeared on the tongue, however it can't be seen when the boot is laced, so I didn't care. The boots are manufactured in Vietnam nowadays, not the USA or Canada.

Do you want a big pair of warm slippers you can wear out in the show and slush to keep your feet warm and dry? Do you want them to look cool with your pants both over or under the upper? Then you'll be very happy with these. Do you want a serious boot to protect your feet in harsh winter conditions? Do you beat your boots up and expect them to last without consequence? Look elsewhere. What they are: -A fashion boot with a cool classic look that works pretty well at keeping your feet warm and dry in winter. -Pretty warm (think 400G level warmth) and reasonably water proof. -Very comfortable. They feel like big slippers. -Clunky. Hard to drive in. What they are not: -A serious utility boot. The sole is thinner than you think and the nylon upper provides pretty minimal support. I wouldn't trust the sole to hold up walking over sharp rocks or hiking. But it's fine for snow and every day use. -Seriously warm. The felt liner is nice, but it's lacking in warmth compared to modern thinsulate lined boots. -Form fitting. They're loose and sloppy, even if you size down. You won't be wearing these for winter hiking or as a cold weather work boot. The thin nylon upper doesn't provide any support and the sole is pretty thin and not really up to the task of hard use over the long term. The fit is sloppy and even when sizing down, your foot kind of meanders around in the boot as you walk. This makes them comfortable, but not for long periods of walking, or anything that requires support. You will be wearing them as an every day boot in cold weather, and/or snow and slush. Even with the sloppy fit, they're super comfortable. Again, like big warm slippers you can wear outside. You can wear them outside shoveling, out to the bar, out to a friend's house, or anything else that doesn't really challenge the longevity of the construction and materials too much. Sorel makes other boots that are very robust, heavy duty, and for serious use. This is not one of them. This is high on fashion, high on comfort, and has enough warmth and isolation from the elements to use as an everyday boot in winter. It will keep your toes warm down to the 30ºF range or so with normal wool socks (lower with real thick ones). If you take care of them, the rubber should hold up and keep you dry. If you beat them up, they will fail eventually. I'm happy to have them and love them. But I have other boots for when I need serious footwear to protect my feet in harsh conditions. They're good boots, but understand what they are before purchasing.

Fake photos - beware!

Disgusting! The photos are of the genuine Caribou. For someone who hasn't bought Sorel before I assumed they were one in the same, but the pictures of this product are of the Caribou when in fact the 1964 Pac may as well be a knock off. The quality is terrible. Wasn't sure on size so got 2 pairs. One was a real Caribou and it's like getting a Ferrari and a Reliant Robin when both we advertised with the same photos. Amazon, pick up your quality control. Starting to lose interest in helping you take over the world!

Warm, waterproof boots for the wet, snowy and muddy ground.

Size: 10 Color: Black/Ancient Fossil Verified Purchase

Waterproof, comfortable boots for winter. These boots have a removable and washable felt lining which keep your feet really warm, even when walking in deep snow. The liners come completely out of the boots with a light pull at the top- they are so good at keeping your feet warm that I have even been know to wear them as slippers when it’s cold in the house. The boots have a rubber base part and a waterproof, close weave nylon top part, they come up above your ankle by a few inches. The tongue is attached at the sides so as to make sure that there is no inlet for water. Trousers can sit on the top of the boots to keep them clear of water and they won’t look stupid, in dryer areas trousers can cover the boot top to make them look like shoes. The lacing system is a large loop design, it’s quick to fasten and unfasten, however, the laces are quite slippy and are prone to coming undone so I would advise double bowing them. Sizing wise, if you are between sizes go for the larger size - if you’re a 91/2 but some 9’s fit go for a 10. I found the boots fit me true to size, I normally wear a 9 and the 9 fits fine with no breaking in required, I wore normal socks rather than thick ones as the felt liner deals with the cold and padding out the boot, so thick walking socks simply aren’t needed under this. The sole is rubber and has an ok grip, not as good as walking boots but better than cheap wellies. I would happily recommend these boots.

Perfect for raynauds sufferers

Size: 7 Color: Black/Ancient Fossil Verified Purchase

I have wanted a pair of these boots for ages. The mens ones were a better offer on Black Friday so they are the ones I opted for. When I first put them on they felt a bit too snug across the top of my foot but they are fine now. I probably could have gone down a size (I am a half size so it's always gamble what way shoes will go but generally 6 is the size that fits me best) but that does mean I could wear thicker socks if needed. That being said they are still perfectly comfortable when wearing just tights and don't run anywhere at all. My feet feel so snug in these and definitely better than wellies for winter. Perfect for dog walking and exploring the country park. I can now still feel my toes at the end of a walk which is amazing as I have raynauds. And if we ever get snow I can tell these will be perfect.

So far, so very good

Size: 14 Color: Tobacco, Black Verified Purchase

I ordered these to go on an Arctic cruise, which will be the real test. In the meantime, I have been wearing them out walking to "break them in" and so far, so very good. I have size 12 feet, wider than average and I ordered a size 13 to accommodate thick socks, such as these: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0184H8VCY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 or these: https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000P8D40A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The fit is good and the felt inner boot seems to mould to fit your foot over a few wears and they have been comfortable walking on footpaths etc for an hour or two at a time. (I can't say what they would be like over a longer period as I haven't tried that). The weather in the UK over the last few weeks has been pretty mild for the time of year so I haven't really tested the warmth of the boot, they give every impression of being warm, especially with the right socks worn underneath. The size 13 would have been too large with "normal" cotton socks but I think that if you are wearing "normal" cotton socks you probably aren't in an environment where these boots are necessary. The soles are quite thick and, with the frost plugs (ridges on the sole), you should get a reasonable distance between your foot and any frozen ice or snow underfoot. The true test will come in the Arctic in a few weeks time!

Thin and no shape

Would be 3 star but for the elevated Sorel price I'm giving 2 star: The Nylon upper material is very thin and provides no structure, the only real structure of the boot is from the inner removable thermal felt lining. After two minutes of trying these on I could feel them loosing shape and have even creased above the heal, which I could feel folding into the back of my leg and would inevitably rub. Perhaps this crease has built up from being tried on by more than just me for two minutes but still. The thermal lining has a long slit down the front of the boot which kind of leaves an uninsulated strip at the front of your foot. It wouldn't be so bad if the outer material had any thickness to it but the tongue provides no insulation. And as far as snow boot design goes I can't imagine the shallow toothed sole providing any real grip. Sorel's more expensive leather based models probably solve a lot of these issues but I am going for a Mountain Wharehouse model that is cheaper and better than this one I am reviewing.
