The mom-to-be was photographed out in L.A holding a bottle of coke and the Internet is freaking out.
[Editor's note: Pregnant mamas are superheroes and deserve all the support. As mamas who've been there, we've selected the best products for pregnancy in The Motherly Shop. We've got you, mama.]
Sophie Turner grew up in the spotlight and has previously said that it was really hard to be a famous teen in the age of social media. So it makes sense that in adulthood, Turner uses social media on her terms and, dispute being a public figure, has chosen to keep major milestones like her wedding to Joe Jonas and her pregnancy private.
The world learned of Turner's pregnancy back in February not through a public pregnancy announcement but though media reports and in the months since, Turner's kept her pregnancy off social media and been (like most of us in the age of COVID-19) keeping a low profile.
But this week Turner and Jonas were photographed while out in L.A. and the internet went wild for the images, which show Turner rocking a pair of pregnancy leggings and a face mask while carrying a bottle of Coke.
She looks absolutely stylish (and still comfy) in a crop top and oversized Givenchy blazer, and while some commenters were quick to point out how awesome and confident she looks, others tore her down because it looks like she's drinking soda.
Seriously, people were judging a pregnant mother because she was seen holding a soda and that's not okay.
It is not cool to judge what a pregnant person eats or drinks—and let's be real—one of those little bottles of Coke only has like 34mg of caffeine, which is considered low and way beneath the recommended maximum caffeine intake for pregnant people which is 300mg per day (about 2 8-ounce drip coffees).
Another thing people are criticizing online is Turner's decision not to document her pregnancy on social media (or even confirm it to traditional media). "My question is why they haven't announced it .... like why be embarrassed by it or like why not acknowledge the baby?" one Instagram commenter wrote.
The answer to that is simple: She doesn't want to.
Turner has lived in the spotlight since she was a child and wants to keep her pregnancy private, as is her right. It makes sense for her, and that's all that matters.
"Having your adolescence being displayed in public, that's something I really wish hadn't happened," she told the Sunday Times last year. "Being in the age of social media when that's happening, I think I would be a much saner person if I hadn't been documented from 13—your most awkward, uncomfortable, unsure-of-yourself years."
Lastly, people have been critical of Turner even going out at all during the pandemic and this isn't the first time Turner's faced that criticism. On June 6 she posted photos and video of herself at a Black Lives Matter protest and some commenters expressed concern about the risk of COVID-19. The thing is, though, Turner is pregnant but she's also an adult. That means she gets to weigh risks herself and make the decisions that are best for her.
Every pregnant woman deserves to have her decisions respected. This is her pregnancy, and it's no one else's to judge. Even if fans feel like they know Turner because they watched her grow up on TV or follow her on social media, they don't have the right to shame her for her choices as a pregnant person.
This happens to pregnant people all the time, even when they are not famous and it's not okay. If a pregnant woman wants to drink a coke or go to a protest that's her business and no one else's.
They say necessity is the mother of invention—and nothing makes you more inventive than motherhood.
Sometimes that means fashioning a diaper out of paper towels and your older child's underpants (true story). Sometimes that means creating an innovative and life-changing weighted baby sleep sack and totally crushing it on Shark Tank. Tara Williams is the latter.
When her son was about 6 months old, he struggled to sleep for more than an hour and a half at a time. Like so many of us in the first months of parenthood, she was exhausted and desperate for a solution.
"One night we placed him under a heavy throw blanket while sitting on the couch," she says. "I noticed as soon as the weight was on his body, he instantly calmed down. A lightbulb went off in my head: he needs a weighted blanket!"
With the help of her mother-in-law, she created a prototype. The first night her son used it, he slept for 12 hours. After working with pediatricians, NICU nurses and certified sleep consultants on a series of refinements that resulted in a sleep-safe sack and testing rigorously to ensure it exceeded all U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Standards, she competed on Shark Tank and secured a $100k investment.
Made from soft 100% cotton that keeps little ones from overheating, Dreamland Baby weighted sacks use the same concepts as weighted blanket—to provide deep-pressure stimulation. It's that cozy reassurance that comforts and calms to help them fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. They are gently weighted on the front panel only with food-grade, non-toxic inner-bead fill and feature a two-way zipper to make diaper changes as easy as possible. The smallest size comes with a detachable swaddle wing for babies who prefer swaddled sleep.

With hundreds of 5-star reviews, we couldn't be more impressed.
According to one Motherly Shop reviewer, "We used Dreamland swaddle since my baby was born. I bought two sizes for the 0-6 we loved them so much- just purchased the 6-12 now. My daughter falls asleep on her own and wakes up well rested. I have recommended to probably 10 other moms who all use them too!!"
What 4-month sleep regression? The 0-6 month size is for babies 8-15 pounds.
Sleep level status: Pro. The 6-12 month size is for babies weighing 15-20 pounds.
Here's to finding the sleep groove, mama! This size works for 20+ pounds.

It's normal to have a low sex drive postpartum.
After growing a baby and giving birth, you've accomplished quite a lot, mama. And trying to heal while feeding and caring for your new baby is round-the-clock work. So finding your balance in your new role might not include having sex—even well after the 6-week "go-ahead" from your doctor or midwife. You might feel fine about this (after all, you have a lot to adjust to), but you might also be thinking, "Nope. Not gonna. Don't wanna... What's wrong with me?" *Sigh.*
There's nothing wrong with you, mama. Having a low sex drive for a period of time postpartum is a normal evolutionary adaptive response designed to ensure that you survive to continue to reproduce.
You're probably exhausted. Maybe you feel sore—and sex isn't pleasurable at the moment. Maybe you're worried about changes to your body or getting pregnant again. Or maybe you're just touched out and feel like the only thing you have control over is your body.
But underneath all of these perfectly legitimate reasons is a current of raging and waning hormones that have an even more powerful impact on your sex drive.
When you're pregnant, the levels of your reproductive hormones are at time 1000 times higher than when you are not pregnant. And once you give birth, those hormones come crashing down to menopausal levels. The low estrogen that results can cause uncomfortable vaginal dryness—especially if you are breastfeeding—and a loss of sex drive.
This is how evolution ensures that you "don't want it" while you are healing and investing your energy into keeping your new baby alive before you start to work on the next.
Oxytocin is the bonding hormone released when you hug, have sex and breastfeed. Before birth, touching your partner triggers the release of oxytocin that helps you feel good and bond to each other. But after giving birth, with all the snuggling and feeding, "the mother winds up getting her oxytocin from her kid," explains clinical sexologist, Dr. Kat Van Kirk. "This transfer of emotional energy is thought to decrease sexual desire and increase responsiveness to infant stimuli in postpartum women by activating the brain regions associated with reward."
Whether breastfeeding or bottle-feeding, the skin-to-skin contact between you and baby increases the release of oxytocin, causing you and baby to bond, ensuring that you will take care of them and they will survive.

The hormone prolactin also plays an important role in maternal behavior. Prolactin causes your breasts to grow during pregnancy and prepares them for the milk production sgtarting after birth. This hormone helps you relax while you are nursing, but it also depresses your libido. This is biology once again making sure you remain focused on the biological investment you just made in your baby.
Though the research is still preliminary, elevated prolactin levels in new dads are thought to induce child-care behavior, just like in moms, while reducing testosterone levels after birth.
Studies have shown that the more dads interact with their baby, the lower their testosterone levels dip, decreasing libido and causing them to focus less on wanting to have sex and more on wanting to nurture. This serves to ensure that dads invest more energy in parental care than in making a new baby, while helping them relax and enjoy their newborn.
Not wanting to have sex postpartum is perfectly normal, and in any case, it's tempor
