One man and his mother are celebrating one hospital's anniversary by getting matching tattoos of the hospital's symbol.

Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children is celebrating ten years of helping children within the Colorado area. The hospital used to be Presbyterian St. Luke’s before it changed over to the hospital for children. In order to celebrate, one patient is sharing his story, as well as the matching tattoos that he and his mother got of the hospital's symbol in order to share his story and the unique relationship that he has had with his doctors, according to KDVR.
Trey Alexander, 26, was born long before the hospital had become a children's specialty hospital. However, at only nine weeks old, he had to have surgery for the rare condition that he was born with, which is called congenital diaphragmatic hernia, a condition where there should be muscle lining that holds his stomach and intestinal lining in place was missing, according to his mom, Melissa. The condition occurs in approximately 1 out of 5,000 children.
Alexander had been in and out of hospitals since he was an infant, and he gives all the credit to the doctors for saving his life over and over again. As of now, he has had 22 surgeries. He says that he owes the doctors the world for what they have done for him. He also said that he met "a lot of cool doctors" along the way.
However, even though Trey is now 26 years old, the doctors are not ready to let him leave their care. He is thriving, and he has a feeding tube, which he will have to have for the rest of his life. Alexander jokes around about missing his doctors, where he kind of does, and kind of doesn't.
Trey recently visited the hospital with his mom in order to show their new matching tattoos that symbolizes his medical journey from being born in the hospital to all of the surgeries that he has had there. Dr. Saundra Kay, Trey's physician said that when they came in and showed her the tattoos that they got and she said that she could not believe it.
As their relationship with that healthcare system continues to grow, they will always be forever grateful for saving Trey's life over and over again, and now they are able to look down at their tattoos and remember all of the good that the hospital has done for them.

Sometimes, the differences in the way parents treat their kids is so subtle we may not even realize we're doing it, but here are some ways we see it.

In a world full of “boy moms” and “girl moms” there are parents out there who have children of each biological sex. They will often talk about the differences in their children, and how their boys tend to be “rough” and their girls are more “fancy.” Despite boys and girls being able to be whatever they want to be, parents everywhere are still seeing the trend in the differences between sons and daughters. Is there a genetic trait to this, or is it more nurture? Do moms and dads treat their daughters and sons differently? There may be parenting style differences when it comes to parenting a child of either sex.
Sometimes, the differences in the way mom and dad treat their children is so subtle that mom and dad may not even realize that they are doing it. The treatment may not be intentional, and it likely is not, but it can still be there. This can be found evident even from "jokes" about dating rules parents have for their sons and their daughters. When they are speaking about more serious subjects, they don’t believe that they treat their children differently, and that may be because they don’t break down the ways that they do treat their children differently.
When it comes to bias based on sex, and if parents treat their children differently, it was noted that it starts in infancy. A study was done, and posted on Ideal Library, that looked at mother’s and their baby’s ability to crawl. Mothers of daughters and mothers of sons were asked what the ability of their child was to crawl. It was overwhelming in response, that mothers believed that their sons could crawl at a higher incline. This told experts that from a very early age, parents seem to have a lower expectation of their daughters than they do their sons.
According to Inner Drive, research has been done to look at how differently parents treat their children depending on if they are a son or a daughter, and they looked at the type and amount of praise that children were given. According to the US National Library of Medicine, When praise was looked at, they found that boys and girls got the same amount of praise from parents, but the type of praise they received was very different.
Boys were given more “process praise” than girls, they received 24.4 of this type of praise, when girls only receive 10.3%. Process praise is defined as praise for a child’s efforts, a lack in process praise can mean that they lack motivation and persistence when they grow, and it could lead to low academic performance.
Parents always have an interest in their child’s education, but is it equal interest? According a journal that was posted in JSTOR, there is evidence that parents of sons are more likely to be involved in their school life. This is by attending meetings and contacting teachers when they have questions or concerns.
The same journal also shows that parent’s save more money for their son’s education, when compared to daughter’s. When it comes to their child’s academic achievement, parents are also more invested in their son’s when it comes to math class, in particular. They put more pressure on their daughter’s than sons to do better in math and get a better grade.
The study also looked at individual parents to see if they could notice a trend in treatment. They found out that dads are more likely to treat their children differently based on their sex. It found that fathers are investing more of their time in their son’s, rather than their daughters. When they looked at mom, they found that she splits her time much more equally among her children.
This could be due to a father feeling more or a natural bond and understanding with their sons than they do with their daughters. On a whole, when experts reviewed all of their findings, they did come to the conclusion that parents seem to be more invested in their sons, and that they treat their sons differently than they do their daughters. They are concerned about the developmental impacts this can have.
It was made very clear that parents are not doing this intentionally, and they do not intend to treat their children differently based on their sex, but the research has found that they are doing it. This could serve as a reminder for parents everywhere to really evaluate how they treat their children, and if they are putting in the same effort with their daughters as they are their sons.
