Some WiFi security statistics

strykerdef.com

We launched Stryker app on 10th of September. For now with about 2,1k active users and with the help of their input we would like to address an important topic.

Talking about hacks and cybersecurity threats we often forget the most used network device that enable our online existence - wifi router / wifi access point.

Being the most used network device it remains one of the most vulnerable entry point for malicious attacks. And it's not just words - we have the statistics for one of the most common and well known vulnerability (Pixie dust) found by Stryker app on different models of wifi routers. The attack itself is well known for few years, as well as protection measures, but still the number of devices vulnerable to it is important.

This numbers are surprising even us taking into account that the countermeasures are simple and regularly addressed by the routers' manufacturers.

So here our top 15 most vulnerable routers in active use as of today:

Total analysed routers - 1354
Top 15 vulnerable routers number - 1115, or 82% of analysed batch.

So, especially if your router model is in this list, do following simple steps to limit the possibilities for hackers to attack your routers.

  1. Update your router firmware to the latest version form the manufacturer's sites.
  2. Turn Off WPS (WiFi protected setup) function on your router, if apart any particular reason you don't need itThose two simple steps will help you to limit the number of possible threats as through the hack of wifi router attacker could easily reach your entire internal network.
