Quality & Simplicity: It really IS fully automated and the quality is excellent

When my old and basic coffee machine finally gave up the ghost, I decided to spend a bit more money on a replacement. I'd enjoyed the old one for many years and the coffee it produced was really good but it was slow to warm up and the whole process was time-consuming and often a bit messy to clean up. After reading reviews on Amazon until my eyes turned square, I still hadn't made a definitive choice. There were quite a few that looked really good and a huge range of prices. Reviews of the same product by different people often varied widely and so were not much help. In the end I just thought "what the heck – they are probably all pretty good and I went for one in the middle price-wise, the Melitta Solo. It's fully automatic, bean to cup, and so in that sense it automatically does many of the things that amateur baristas probably love to play around with and tweak. Me – I really want a great coffee but I'm not obsessed and don't want to be fiddling around with too many settings. This one absolutely fits the bill for me. It does a lot of that tweaking stuff for itself, like pre-warming the chamber, charging the coffee with an initial shot of water and so on. But basically, all you have to do is put coffee beans in the top, fill it with water, set the size of the brew and push a button for how strong you want it, and finally how many cups. For the first couple of weeks I did mess around with different strengths and the amount of time the water flows through the coffee. But having found the setting I like, I now leave all that alone and just push "go" for a single mug, where I've prewarmed the milk in the microwave. Height adjustable, it can take tall mugs which is a real plus. Yes, it does all that steaming stuff and again different options are available, even drawing up the milk for itself if you want it to. I have the occasional cappuccino or latte but mainly it's just "push and go". Frankly it's "vending machine simple" and very nearly as quick but superb quality brews, as good as anything you'll find in one of the chains on the high street (and better than some!). I use decent quality beans, roasted locally. It cleans itself after use and all I have to do is empty out the coffee grounds every 5 or 6 brews and keep it topped up with water and beans. Even reminds me to do that too! I should imagine that it is horrendously complicated inside, with microchips and servo motors and automated valves so – thank goodness – it comes with a 10 year guarantee! Perhaps more by luck than judgement, I seem to have purchased the coffee machine that's right for me, combining quality with simplicity. Not the cheapest of course, nor the most expensive, and definitely worth the money IMHO.

Good coffee machine, but...

After my last coffee machine bought from Curry's broke down after 8 months (pomp stopped working and because of the house move I've lost the receipt so couldn't claim it back) I was forced to search the Internet to find the replacement and came across this one. Judging from the reviews and product description, together with my girlfriend we went for it. Happy to say we found it relatively easy to use, we like the blending power, the cleaning is very easy and all, but... There is nothing in the product description saying that you have to use a water filter, which is NOT included with the machine and am forced to buy it to fully enjoy my coffee maker.

Do not buy from this manufacturer

Loved this coffee maker at first we thought the flavour was much better than our previous delonghi machine. However after 3 months it has developed a fault and is not dispensing water. We followed the Instructions in case there was an airlock. We have spent hours trying to solve the problem to no avail. I have emailed melitta regarding getting a replacement but have not received any response. Very disappointing as these machine are not cheap and I would have expected better service from melitta. I would definitely not buy from this company again Update I have been in touch with Amazon and they have not been able ro get any help from melitta.so I have a coffee machine which was not cheap sitting on my work surface completely useless. Looking at reviews it appears a lot of people have had problems. Review update 3 weeks later having heard nothing about my repair and after many unreplied to emails I have had one to say the machine has just arrived plus an email in German when translated says it take sometime to process so looks like I am not getting coffee machine back anytime soon appears to have been sent to Germany. I would definitely not recommend buying from this xompany

Very unreliable - going back after 7 days

Don't bother. First day immediately after priming, the machine turned itself off and it wouldn't switch on. Went through the return process, after Amazon tried to help troubleshoot via chat. I thought I'd try to turn it on once again in the evening before packing it and lo and behold the machine turns on again. Cancelled return. 3 days later, got a no beans message when machine full of beans. After getting all the coffee out a few times and keeping on pressing the make coffee button it finally started working again. Until today when it decided to turn itself off again immediately after making a coffee. It's now going back. A big disappointment after owning a Bosch bean to cup for nearly 7 years with no problems. Nice cappuccino froth, and extraction but let down by shoddy build quality and components.

Cheap plasticky ,would have broken after a few times of having to take sides of etc.Returned.

I was concerned as soon as I took the packaging off. The machine seemed to be cheap plastic. The instructions were too brief and had to figure out how to fill beans what some flashing lights were and other things. Got a watery coffee out and according to instructions couldn’t make the setting stronger . You had to keep taking the side off and it was clear most parts would break after a short time so I returned.

Recently, we decided to treat ourselves to a new coffee machine for our office. We take our coffee almost as serious as our work, and there is definitely a correlation between the two when we’re fuelled on well-made coffee.

We wanted something that would not only produce excellent coffee, but was compact, easy to use, and didn’t require much maintenance. Sounds like a lot to ask, but it really wasn’t when we found the Melitta Solo & Perfect Milk.

We’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s proven to be the perfect choice. The fact that our coffee intake has gone through the roof and first thing in the morning when we arrive being the only time I can’t smell fresh coffee brewing, it’s testament to how often we’re using our new Melitta coffee machine.

For those not familiar with the brand, Melitta is a name that is synonymous with quality coffee making appliances. They have been producing machines used by some of the top coffee shops and baristas all over the world for more than 100 years - so they know a thing or two about coffee.

Aesthetically the Caffeo Solo & Perfect Milk is easy on the eye and fits in perfectly with the modern decor in our office. It has a highly polished metal finish and a small LED display. It also runs almost silently, apart from those familiar coffee shop sounds of milk being frothed and the grinding of the coffee beans, which are welcomed sounds.

Obviously, where it matters is the taste, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s a fully automatic machine, so you simply add your favourite beans, select the strength, quantity, and type of coffee you want, and the machine does the rest.

The ‘Milk’ in the Solo & Perfect Milk refers to the milk frothing wand on this model. Which we think is an absolute must, as having control over how you froth your milk means you can add anything from a velvety milk layer, to a light and airy milk foam - perfect for a latte macchiato.

I’m sure you’ll also agree that coffee is best enjoyed with friends or colleagues. The Solo & Milk can produce two cups of coffee or espresso simultaneously, a pretty big deal when it comes to saving time and perfect when entertaining.

If you want to play the barista at home or in the office while letting the machine do all the work, this is the appliance to make it happen. It delivers the perfect cappuccino, macchiato, latte, espresso or Americano.

The Melitta Solo & Perfect Milk was an instant hit, it’s satisfied the coffee snobs who demand quality and substance from their cup, and impressed the casuals by how easy it is to use.

Solo® Perfect Milk by Melitta is available in silver or black and black and is priced from £499.99. Stockists include: Amazon, Currys, ao.com, Co-op, Lakeland, Hughes, Redber Coffee Roasters, Dawson’s, ECookshop and Bella Barista.

The Melitta Caffeo Solo & Perfect Milk has a weight of 8300 g.
How often a coffee machine needs to be descaled depends on how often it is used and the hardness of the water.
If hard water is used it is recommended to descale once a month, if soft water is used once a quarter is sufficient.

To descale the coffee maker, it is recommended to use a liquid descaling agent which is labelled as suitable for coffee machines.

Espresso is a small amount of concentrated coffee.

The best-before date can be found on the packaging of the coffee beans. This best-before date applies as long as the bag is closed.

It is recommended to store coffee in an airtight and clean container.

How the coffee beans are ground strongly influences the taste of the coffee. If the coffee beans are very finely ground you will have a stronger taste and if the grind is coarser you will have a milder taste.
