Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game
I was thinking about this yesterday. Instead of Top 5, I'm going to do 5 categories -
Best Long Solitaire Game (Length-wise) - Nemo's War
Best Long Solitaire Game (Short-game played multiple times) - Fuse
Best Solo Adaptation - Spirit Island
Kind of sad I had to scroll this far to see someone mention Friday . I love this game and have been playing it a bunch recently, have yet to actually win yet, even on the 'easy' mode.

Number 1 spot: Too Many Bones - WARNING: Expensive Game- I love this game. It's perfect for me. Can play controlling 1-4 Gearlocs and plays wonderfully at all counts. Encounter deck keeps every campaign fresh and Undertow and the mini expansions are coming to add even more variation. The component quality is really, really nice and with the Premium health chips it's the best feeling game I've played. The combat system is really fun and interesting which is key for solo games and the Dice Building RPG aspect just works. They did a fantastic job creating their own universe and lore that feels genuinely unique and the people at Chip Theory Games clearly care and put in so much effort that I just have nothing but good things to say. The campaigns can be completed in one night which is so nice or you can leave it on a dedicated table and take your time playing through the week after work if that fits your schedule better. Tons of Gearlocs to play as and they all feel different and useful in their own ways. The game also has ways to mitigate the randomness and feelbads of dice rolling. If you play solo, you should really check this out and see if it's for you. Some people are put off by the art, but I've grown from luke warm to absolutely loving the charm of it.
Number 2: Kingdom Death: Monster - WARNING: While Too Many Bones is expensive, KD:M puts that price tag to shame. Like, it's oh my god expensive. I almost didn't put it on this list it's so expensive. I still feel like it's worth the price tag. - The minis are the best minis I've ever seen and I genuinely love assembling them (never have before KD:M). There are very adult themes as well, it's actually not as bad as it's stigma but calling it "tits and death" is fair. BUT the game itself is brilliant. Developing a settlement and building equipment is just one of the most enjoyable things I've found in boardgaming. Going on hunts and rolling for events is always exciting for me. The boss battles with monsters and nemesis use an AI and Hit Location system that is fantastic. The game is just really, really good and since you control the settlement more than individual survivors (though you do that too) it makes for an incredibly good solo game. Another warning, there is a ton of book keeping. It's doable, but there is an App called Scribe that makes it a breeze. I can't think of another game with more pros and cons, but for me it's exactly what I'm looking for. If it's baggage doesn't bother you, the game is phenomenal.
Number 3: Mage Knight - A mountain of a learning curve, but with Ricky Royal's help, this was the game that got me into solo gaming. If you play by the exact rules it's a tight, difficult, puzzle of a game. If you want a relaxing romp as a super powered wizard you can house rule it to be that too. Just a fun solo game that's worth the amount of effort it takes to learn to play it. Lost Legion expansion is a must for me but the core game is fine without it.
Number 4: Arkham Horror - There are a lot of problems with this game, but it's just so flavorful I have to add it. Reading the events at the various locations creates ridiculous naratives that I just find a lot of joy in. It's long, it's fiddly, it takes forever to set up, it's too hard and combat annoys me at times. But I love it.
Number 5: Friday - Cheap, fast, hard and even if you play perfectly you still need to get lucky to win. But pound for pound, dollar for dollar, you can't do much better than Friday. My other 4 games are time commitments. They have epic battles. They can be slogs. This is everything those games aren't and sometimes it's exactly what I'm looking for.
God damn I just cant get over myself to pay so much for a game i.e. K:D
I only hear the best about it but Im still too cheap.
I already couldnt get myself to invest in Gloomhaven which is cheaper albeit K:D is better.
Add the fact that its not available everywhere.
I guess Ill be missing out on the fun.
But seriously is the game as great as everyone makes it? Are there other games comparable to it?

Hello, twin! I might rearrange the list a little for myself, but these are absolutely my top 5 solos.
How is the set up for Viticulture? How long does it usually take to set up and put away? My biggest issue I have found playing board games solo is that the set up and clean up time make playing solo too much of a hassle.

I really like Dawn of the Zeds. They do zombies pretty well. Slow but imposing.
