I have been a Jackson Browne fan since the 60's & 70's. This is one on my favorite cd's to date. I only wish I was at this concert!!

I've been a stalwart Jackson Browne fan since the very early '70's. Seen him in concert twice over the years. Absolutely fabulous in concert. Comes across as very humble - he projects sheer, palpable gratitude that you came out to hear him. Owned a bunch his stuff over the years in lots of different forms. I bought this double CD partly out of loyalty. I didn't know that to expect. All of a sudden it's one of my favorites of all time. It's like your listening to him in a coffee shop or a small venue and he's right there in front of you with just him singing and playing guitar or piano. I own a lot of his CD's. This collection immediately became one of my favorites.

This is a great 2 disc set of Jackson Browne, Live and solo, doing hits and deep cut songs of his. For a Jackson Browne fan, this is a welcome addition to his collection of works!

one of the best collections of JB you can buy, fan or not, you'll keep playing this over and over

I am a singer-songwriter. When I played the first track, "The Barricades Of Heaven," I was in Heaven. The sound of his guitar first got me, then the sound of his voice and that song! Then, one of my top 5 songs of all time was next, "These Days!" This version is the best ever. No kidding, just this man and his guitar is the best. As one who plays guitar, I can truthfully say that he is a fabulous player. It sounds simple but it's not. His tone is impeccable, as well. I don't know how they get that tone but whatever they do, they do it well. And then of course, his piano playing, to me, is just as awesome because he does not overplay. He plays enough licks to get the song across and that's it. Which I like. I want to hear the song, not Liberace. I have played these cd's continuously for a week now. I am drawn to his style of writing. He is a master wordsmith, so poetic. And deep. I like his darkness. He has something more upbeat now and then but I am drawn to his writing. Kind of like I feel about much of Neil Young's work. Dark can be wonderful! And he spices up his playing with humorous banter with the audience. Very charismatic! If you want to hear a great songwriter in his most intimate playing, just him and a guitar or piano, it doesn't get any better than this!

A beautiful gift for my twin sister’s 71st birthday!

Jackson Browne is my favorite musical artist (Don Henley, second). I can't think of a single song of his that I dislike, unlike every other musical artist. This offering is OK, but it does not contain a single version of a song that I like as well as the studio version. Missing riffs and various backgrounds play in my head anyway, a distraction at best. The full acoustical warmth and brightness of his creations are "cut away". Having it to do over again, I'd have passed on this since I have nearly all of J.B.'s other albums. Unless you prefer unaccompanied format, I'd go for Jackson's fleshed-out albums first.

Personally, I couldn't care less about Jackson Browne. With maybe one exception, nothing about his music or style appeals to me. However, my wife is different. She loves his stuff. So, obviously, this was for her. A cut from this album came up in her Pandora playlist and I watched her become emotionally involved with the tune. In a moderately well planned maneuver for brownie points, I ordered this while she was still listening. It arrived quickly and immediately found a permanent home in her car. The downside is that her car likes it, too. In fact it won't spit the disc out. Now I have to listen to it. Not as well planned as I originally thought.

Enjoy the warmth of Jackson Browne

The two cd pack are live recordings from the same tour. Initially released only "Volume 1" was released but presumably a decision was made to release more material from the tour hence we have Volume 2. Maybe because of familiarity but I suspect more because of good decisions when the first album was released, I much prefer Volume 1. All the tracks are of a good quality and in addition to the excellent musicianhip there is a real sense of how well Jackson Browne interacts and communicates with his audience.

Genius at work

Not often I'm moved to write reviews, but this is a sheer joy. Jackson clearly in a great rapport with his audience, with that beautiful sonorous voice and solo guitar and piano. There are bits on this that make you laugh and bits to make you cry. We just got married and I had one track (Never Stop) on the playlist as it is just perfect. Get it! And try getting to see the man live, saw hom earlier in 2017 and his voice is as pure as ever.

Fantastic set of CDs

I like Jackson Browne. So I bought this intimate live concert cd set. It's just him, some very dry humour and some beautifully played songs. It's a typical concert set from an amazing songwriter that does err on the melancholic. I'm a writer and I have it on in the back ground when I'm writing. But every now and again I just sit back and listen to my favourite tracks. Its just a guitar or a piano and a voice. The guy is a class act.

Just Jackson, well almost

Two excellent value, very good condition, used CD's. Jackson Browne sings a full range of his songs in his, usual, very professional manner but more mellow in tone and volume. The album only has acoustic backing but works very well. An excellent pair of Jackson Browne CD's.

stripped down acoustic versions of all my old favourites JB is a great artist and this is a really excellent compilation

Lyrics for THE BARRICADES OF HEAVEN

Running down around the towns along the shore
When I was sixteen and on my own
No, I couldnt tell you what the hell those brakes were for
I was just trying to hear my song

Jimmy found his own sweet sound and won that free guitar
Wed all get in the van and play
Life became the Paradox, the Bear, the Rouge et Noir
And the stretch of road running to L.A.

Pages turning
Pages we were years from learning
Straight into the night our hearts were flung
Better bring your own redemption when you come
To the barricades of Heaven where Im from

All the world was shining from those hills
The stars above and the lights below
Among those there to test their fortunes and their wills
I lost track of the score long ago

Pages turning
Pages we were years from learning
Straight into the night our hearts were flung
Better bring your own redemption when you come
To the barricades of Heaven where Im from

Childhood comes for me at night
Voices of my friends
Your face bathing me in light
Hope that never ends

Pages turning
Pages torn and pages burning
Faded pages, open in the sun
Better bring your own redemption when you come
To the barricades of Heaven where Im from.
Better bring your own redemption when you come
To the barricades of Heaven where Im from

Lyrics for THESE DAYS

Well Ive been out walking
I dont do that much talking these days
These days
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do for you
And all the times I had the chance to

And I had a lover
Its so hard to risk another these days
These days
Now if I seem to be afraid
To live the life I have made in song
Well its just that Ive been losing so long

Ill keep on moving
Things are bound to be improving these days
One of these days
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend
Dont confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them

Lyrics for THE BIRDS OF ST. MARKS

Oh how sadly sound the songs the queen must sing of dying

A prisoner upon her throne of melancholy sighing
If she could see her mirror now
She would be free of those who bow and
Scrape the ground beneath her feet

Silently she walks among her dying midnight roses
Watches as each moment goes that never really know us
And so it seems she doesn't care
If she has dreams of no one there
Within the shadows of her room

But all my frozen words agree, and say it's time to
Call back, all the birds I sent to
Fly behind her castle walls, and I'm
Weary of the nights I've seen
Inside these empty halls

Wooden lady turn and turn among my weary secrets
And wave within the hours past and other empty pockets
Maybe we've found what we have lost
When we've unwound so many crossed entangling
Misunderstandings; but

All my frozen words agree and say it's time to
Call back all the birds I sent to
Fly behind her castle walls, and I'm
Weary of the nights I've seen
Inside these empty walls

Lyrics for FOUNTAIN OF SORROW

Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer
I was taken by a photograph of you
There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more
But they didnt show your spirit quite as true
You were turning round to see who was behind you
And I took your childish laughter by surprise
And at the moment that my camera happened to find you
There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes

Now the things that I remember seem so distant and so small
Though it hasnt really been that long a time
What I was seeing wasnt what was happening at all
Although for a while our paths did seem to climb
But when you see through loves illusions, there lies the danger
And your perfect lover looks like a perfect fool
So you go running off in search of a perfect stranger
While the loneliness seems to spring from your life like a fountain from a pool

Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
Youve known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
Youve had to hide sometimes but now youre all right
And its good to see your smiling face tonight

Now for you and me it may not be that hard to reach our dreams
But that magic feeling never seems to last
And while the futures there for anyone to change still you know it seems
It would be easier sometimes to change the past
Im just one or two years and a couple of changes behind you
In my lessons at loves pain and heartache school
Where if you feel too free and you need something to remind you
Theres this loneliness springing up from your life
Like a fountain from a pool

Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
Youve known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
Youve had to hide sometimes but now youre all right
And its good to see your smiling face tonight

Fountain of sorrow, fountain of light
Youve known that hollow sound of your own steps in flight
Youve had to struggle, youve had to fight
To keep understanding and compassion in sight
You could be laughing at me, youve got the right
But you go on smiling so clear and so bright

Lyrics for YOUR BRIGHT BABY BLUES

Im sitting down by the highway
Down by that highway side
Everybodys going somewhere
Riding just as fast as they can ride
I guess theyve got a lot to do
Before they can rest assured
Their lives are justified
Pray to God for me, baby
He can let me slide

Ive been up and down this highway
Far as my eyes can see
No matter how fast I run
I can never seem to get away from me
No matter where I am
